The Success of Servanthood
"Who being in the very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant." Philippians 2: 6-7, NIV Since the Ashley Smith and Brian Nichols incident (amazing how God works!), I've been thinking about what servanthood really means. There have been several situations arise in my life over the last week also that keep coming back to servanthood or my own rights and way. When that happens, I know God is really wanting to drive a point home in me, LOL! In fact, when I sat down to write this article, I prayed as I always do, to be a conduit for God to use. The title popped into my head immediately after praying and I thought, "Oh no, not that again!". Our Sovereign God knows what part of us really needs work, doesn't He?! I've been through the book a Purpose Driven Life in a group home study. It was a pivotal point in my life and I did have some revelations during that 40 days of purpose. I just didn't know the road God would have me travel to fulfill my specific purpose and I never thought it would be what I'm doing now. I love that about God, how He directs our paths if we but allow Him to do His work in our lives. Servanthood hasn't been one of my strong points. I'm pretty independent and very much a loner too. I've always acted like an island unto myself UNTIL I went through the 40 days of purpose. Then things began changing and that change has been wrought about over and over through adversity and trials and many challenges. In fact, I'm neck deep in a few trials now but the wonderful part of it is knowing that God is in control. Okay, I digress -always trying to get out of the subject of servanthood . What I've realized is by God having me in a partly service oriented business -teaching others about holistic pet care - I'm learning that by putting others first, and truly serving them without expecting some kind of compensation in return, I'M the one who is blessed! I don't know what I would've done in the same situation as Ashley Smith was in (and I really hope I never am!), but she has taught us all a lot about being a servant. She could've done nothing but prepared to meet her Maker that day, but instead, she stepped out in faith and shared with a man who desperately needed to hear God's voice through her. I'm sure she was scared, I'm sure she wanted to find a way out of there, but she stepped aside (decreased) and allowed our Lord to take over. She became the servant we're all meant to be here in our earthly bodies. Putting others first, considering them better than ourselves. As I continue on this journey called life, and have many times prayed to decrease so that Jesus can increase, I'm learning that servanthood is really true success. Living Successfully - Spiritual Answers for Modern Day Desires: Part 1 Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my thoughts, and see if any wicked way is in me; and lead me in the way everlasting To Witness the Life that is God My wife, our friend and I went to listen to a concert in one of the well known Halls in Melbourne. After parking our car two elderly ladies showed us where the entrance was and we began walking toward it. Coming down from a small asphalt slope on the way we suddenly heard an alarming sound behind us, turned around and saw that one of these ladies had fallen heavily. She sustained a deep wound on her forehead and was bleeding. She wanted to see a doctor, her friend and myself helped her up. However, she became pale and could not proceed. We sat her down on some nearby stairs, and she closed her eyes, her body became seemingly lifeless, and I realized that she lost consciousness. An ambulance was called. Lectio Divina -- Reading the Bible for Spiritual Growth Lectio divina is a very useful and practical discipline for spiritual growth. Rooted in ancient monasticism, the practice is a fourfold cycle: Reading, Meditation, Prayer, and Contemplation. In fact, the term itself means "sacred reading." 10 Tips For Spiritual Growth Spiritual growth is the process of inner awakening, and becoming conscious our inner being. It means the rising of the consciousness beyond the ordinary existence, and awakening to some Universal truths. It means going beyond the mind and the ego and realizing who you really are. Ask and It Shall Be Given You This statement sounds incredible. ASK and it shall be given. It sounds amazing, doesn't it? It sounds almost unbelievable right? Imagine if all you had to do to get anything you wanted out of life is ASK. It sounds a little farfetched doesn't it? Life as a Human/Medium/Psychic Being We often forget that we are human beings first, and that there is nothing wrong about our making mistakes or having troubles in life ? it is all a part of our growth. We have to allow ourselves to be in situations that can bring us in different direction in our lives. So then, how would you describe yourself? How to Hear from God We want to hear from God so that we may be led to pursue the right things. Unfortunately, there are always three voices in every ones head at any given time; God's voice, the devil's voice, and the voice of our own flesh. So, how are we to be sure to hear from God with all the noise going on? Bringing Heaven to Earth: Applying Spiritual Principles Consistently Over Time I am often asked to explain what I mean by becoming a spiritual scientist ? in other words, what's the science part? Because these terms are being bantered about quite liberally these days, I welcome the opportunity to clarify what for me is a simple and profound process. True Justice and Freedom The world's idea of justice and freedom fall short of their purpose. Prison bars keep the guilty from repeating their crime while behind them. They cannot change the person. Freedom comes with a price. We have to take responsibility for our actions. We are never free from the tensions of living on the earth. We must pay the price of making a living and existing among people of different temperaments and cultures. Being in Christ is the perfect answer because he has already paid the price for our sins. Faerie Wisdom Spirit Dancer Being a Christian What is a Christian? According to The American HeritageŽ Dictionary of the English Language, the general definition of a Christian is "One who professes belief in Jesus as Christ or follows the religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus." Pioneering Insanity "They're crazy!" That's what they're saying about us. The majority of the people in America at this time in history do not channel spirits, do not converse with angels or aliens, do not astral project, do not know about any kind of higher vibration, and do not talk about Starseeds, Indigo Children, nor Lightworkers. They don't know anything about ancient secrets being coded into crystals nor about the healing effects of various stones. The only animals they talk to are their pets and they don't actually listen for any kind of a response. They don't talk to dead people. They have no idea what kind of a higher purpose or mission they might have been sent here to do. They have no idea what it is to have a voice from above speak to you and ask you to step out of the normal way of things to do some sort of holy spiritual work that will help guide or save humanity. They just go about their lives having no idea what it is to walk in our shoes. They call us crazy and sometimes it's difficult not to agree with them. Contentment in Gratitude "Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. " 1 Thessalonians 5: 18, NIV No Other gods Before Me The passenger had to be carried onto the plane and carefully strapped into a first-class seat. She said nothing. As the airliner achieved cruising altitude, perhaps the flight attendants came around. "Would you like a beverage?" one may have asked. No reply. "What about a meal?" The question was ignored. Undoubtedly, the passenger said nothing. She didn't move, didn't look out the window, didn't make a sound. In fact, she didn't even breathe. The Meaning of Life Recently I was watching a re-run of "Everybody Loves Raymond". This particular episode was about a life long question we all ask. Ray's young daughter Ally wanted to know the real meaning of life. This has been a perplexing question throughout the ages and has even been a stumbling block for some, and in this case it was for Raymond. Soul Provider I had the intention of writing about Soul Mates but it occurred to me to write more about a Soul on its own beforehand. I believe we need to address what we mean by a Soul before we get into anything else. A Short Journey to Your Divine Self By invoking an external God to whom we look for help we often lose sight of the fact that we have within us the very power that we seek in such an external force. Now of course I don't just expect you to believe this in the way that religions of the world expect you to believe the converse. Instead I hope to convey here a short but simple exercise that you can do at your leisure to find this very power within yourself. This power emerges from what I call the Divine Self. What is this Self? Well, it's You! Yes, You! The Forgotten Secret It's not exactly a news flash that we live in an increasingly complex society. Technology is changing at a pace so rapidly that even the experts are hard pressed to keep up. Our businesses are changing daily and becoming more competitive than ever before. Our children are facing challenges and pressures unheard of a decade ago and our personal lives have become a fast paced, multi tasked assortment of responsibilities and activities requiring the agility of a circus performer to just cope with daily living. Immaterial Gain Among some of us who deem ourselves spiritual, the use of the word "spiritual" causes blushing and anxiety. What a pale word it is in the face of what earned spirituality actually provides. No single word, however potent, can tap the pure light and color of a cosmic mindset. The green vistas and pinkish sun rays of such a mind lie beyond the reach of labels and terms. How to be Led by the Spirit of God The Bible tells us that we need to be led by the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:12-14, Galatians 5:16-25). Therefore, it is necessary for us to discern the prompting and guidance of the Holy Spirit if we are to live successful lives. |
