Why We Choose Our Parents
There is a concept in Jewish mystical thought known asgilgul, which can be translated as reincarnation.Gilgul does not necessarily mean that a soul in itsentirety has been reincarnated; it may only be anitzotz, or spark of a soul, that is reincarnated. That is to say that an individual can possess anitzotz from the soul of someone who has livedpreviously. Gilgul occurs when the precedingincarnation of that soul has more to accomplish. Rabbi Menashe Ben Israel of the 17th century writesthat the word, gilgul, in Hebrew letters equals thenumerical value of 72, which is also chesed, theHebrew word for kindness. When this type of numericalconnection occurs,it implies a conceptualrelationship. In this case, reincarnation is seen asthe ultimate kindness, in that a soul is given anotherchance for the refinement of its past and thespiritual advancement of its future. Ultimately, a soul can never fail. To succeed, thesoul will come back as many times as necessary tofulfill its spiritual mission. This is the view of theKabbalists, who call the process of the soul'sreturning for the purpose of rectification tikkun, orrepair. Sometimes it is discussed as the birurhisaron, or the clearing of a shortcoming. If greatness is your soul's destiny, then to achieveit, it's only logical that you have a plan. Just asyou would not head off to college without knowingabout the school you'll be attending, souls do notrandomly incarnate into this world. Rather, soulsarrive with a very specific curriculum containing bothgoals and challenges. Your parents are a big part ofthat program. It is in this respect that the Hasidic master RabbiYisrael of Rhizin teaches that our souls choose ourparents. While the reasons for a soul's choice ofparents will vary, it is always significant. Reasonscan include past life relationships, or simply theconducive environment that the parents can provide forthe soul in achieving its overall goal. In a broad sense, your parents are the guarantors ofyour mission. How this works is different in everycase. One possibility is that your parents willprovide positive mentoring, as guides and as a supportsystem. Another is the opposite - that they will modelfor you what you do not want to become and thusclarify the positive direction in which you need togo. For many it is a combination of the two. The keyis to know that directly or indirectly, your parentscreate the fire behind your passion to grow towardyour spiritual advancement. Here is an exercise to help you find out what yourpurpose is in this world and what role your parentsare playing in it. Ask yourself these three questions: 1. Regardless of what I do for a living and what myobligations are, what is the theme that most obviouslyis pushing my soul forward in life, day after day? 2. What is the one theme that best describes the forcepulling my soul off track day after day? 3. What role have my parents played, directly orindirectly, in developing these themes? Why bother looking at these themes at all? Becausethrough them we can discover the real reason we choseto come here this time around, and as an added bonus,we may discover why we chose our parents to raise us.Ultimately, the biblical commandment does not obligateus to love our parents, but to honor them. Honor inHebrew is kibbud, which literally means "to makeheavy". To honor our parents means to acknowledge themas people of tremendous worth in our pilgrimage oflife. It demands effort and often requires a tolerancefor emotional pain, yet it is the most dignifiedendeavor of an entire lifetime. Copyright 2000 by Michael Ezra Ozair, Los Angeles, CA. To Praise Him is to Love Him; to Love Him is to Obey His Commands Some say praising Jesus is just singing. Others say it a combination of many things. Let's see what the Bible say. In the book of Exdous 15:1-3 it says Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the Lord: I will sing to the Lord for he is highly exalted. The horse and its rider he has hurled into the sea. The Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will exalt him. The Lord is a warrior; the Lord is his name. Now look at Deuteronomy 32:1 it says Listen, O heavens, and I will speak; hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew, like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants. I will proclaim the name of the Lord. Oh, praise the greatness of our God! He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he. They have acted corruptly toward him; to their shame they are no longer his children, but a warped and crooked generation. Is this the way you repay the Lord, O foolish and unwise people? Is he not your Father, your Creator, who made and formed you? Youre Standing Between Two Clouds On one side there is a dark cloud. It is full of pain, sickness, disease, poverty, and death. All of the curses talked about in Deuteronomy 28 are swarming in circles. Intuition Did you ever get a feeling or gain notion of a specific situation without any logical explanation? Well, that is your intuition. When you least expect it intuition reaches out and hits you with information that you have no idea were it came from. The problem with this type of feeling or knowledge is that we have no logical explanation for it and often do not follow what it's trying to tell us. However, many find that when their intuition is over looked, it later proves itself to be a fact and regret not following it. Well, I will tell you about what happened to me when I ignored my intuition. Contact an Expert Let's say that you have discovered your purpose but you don't know how to go about obtaining God's purpose for your life. You don't know what to do next. How do you start? How do you go about changing from your present occupation to finding a career using the purpose God gave you? Power of God Makes Life Easier When the storms in your life are raging, just believe, "the power of God makes life easier." Additionally, the real key to dealing with problems that challenge us daily while seeking peace, is found in the wisdom of God's Word. He plays a vital role in every aspect of our character, and life's journey requires help that only God can provide. Pray Off Your Debts in 10 Days or Less - A Short Case Study Last Friday night, I met a Christian at a prayermeeting. He was rescued from war-torn Sudan and brought to the U.S. three years ago. He clearly loves to pray. He gushed facts. What Does Jesus Expect? While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. --ROMANS 5:8 Creating Our Own Emotional Chaos It's amazing how - even when we're working from a "higher vision" - we still see the people, the events and the circumstances in our lives with the same perspective: our own! It's "only human" to always be able to see how right we are in any given situation, and it's always difficult - and sometimes impossible! - to look at ourselves and our actions through the other person's eyes. But if we really want to grow - if we really want to know who we are - then we have to be willing to look at ourselves a little more objectively - a little more realistically - then we're used to doing, and we have to be willing to accept responsibility - both for the way we express ourselves emotionally, and for the effect we have on other people through that expression. Gods To Do List - Get Specific! I know eyebrows are probably raising about now, but let me tell you this works ! How does God know what we want or need if we don't get specific and let Him know ? Living Your Noble Purpose "A common jar of clay can never become a noble masterpiece, unless it is broken by its master, refined in fire, and renewed." ? Sharif Khan Be Aware of the Supreme Deceiver (Part 2) The truth revealed as we read about Hazael also reminds us of David who became so angry and indignant when he heard about the awful behaviors of a rich person described to him by Nathan. Let me refresh your memory of the Biblical narrative. How To Walk On The Path Of Peace (Part 3) As you grow in wisdom, you will release, more and more, self-limiting beliefs, which are transient, and become aware of the powerful role you play in bringing change to the whole. The Two Most Important Commandments - Love Love is mentioned well over 350 times in the Bible. I'm sure God must be trying to tell us something. We will start our study with Matthew 22:37-38; And He replied to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the most important and first commandment. The Power of The Holy Spirit Hello, My name is Mellody Davis and here is my True Testimony: Do You Really Want to Know the Truth? Back in 1992, Jack Nicholson and Tom Cruise co-starred in a movie entitled A Few Good Men. The high point of the film, in my view, was a classic, heated exchange between their characters, during which Kaffee (the military attorney played by Cruise) says: "I want the truth," and Col. Jessup (Nicholson) responds: "You can't handle the truth." Willing to Walk with Jesus? Can two walk together unless they have agreed to do so? - Amos 3:3 Spirituality: Living the Whole The words 'new age' and 'spirituality' can have people running for the hills, or perhaps it would be more appropriate to say running to their urban sanctuary of material distractions. They conjure up images of tie-dye, tofu, and a lack of deodorant. So I'd like to dispel a few myths. Psychic Angels Are you looking for a way to improve your accuracy as a psychic? Maybe you're just thinking it would be kind of cool if you could 'know' things before they happen. Call on the spirits to help you. It's not important what label you use to wrap your head around the concept - guardian angels, fairies, or spirit guides. You could even call on God, Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed, or whomever it is that you think of when you connect to the spirit world. This isn't the place to debate who or what it is, just call on that force when you want help with tapping into your paranormal gifts. It could be a psychological trick that we're playing on ourselves by turning to a mysterious spiritual third party to help us with these things or it could be that the spirits are really helping us. Doesn't really matter does it? Either way, you'll be amazed at the results. Understanding the Gospel of Matthew and Why it Matters - Part 2 Matthew 1:1-17 The Key to a Clear Conscience I have discovered as I grow older in Christ Jesus and wiser in all things spiritual, that one of the best possessions any person can have is a clear conscience. You feel good. I mean, you really feel good. You can let folks say about you whatever they will and it is of little consequence. |
