Aerodynamics of a Flying Disk or Flying Sphere
Aerodynamics of a flying sphere. It has been said that in the future we maybe flying around anti-gravity type spheres, but this does not mean it will not have to deal with relative wind in our own atmosphere. So what are the aerodynamics associated with sphere? Well believe it or not we can borrow much information from sports. Think of a baseball flying out of the field and into the stands signifying a Home Run or even a Grand Slam. Can a flying sphere turn, like a curve ball in baseball? You bet it can with or without the anti-gravity control mechanism. Spin will determine much of this. Like a helicopter lateral control and anti-spinning devise to prevent the vehicle turning due to relative wind and uneven weight distribution, The sphere must have a proper center of gravity which makes things such as fuel difficult. The fuel used must be in the center of the sphere and it must be in a container, which shrinks as the fuel is used in exact proportion of the volume expended. Otherwise you will get the curve ball effect. http://wings.avkids.com/Book/Sports/advanced/curveball-01.html We can obviously learn a lot about sports for our aerodynamic studies on different types of future crafts. I think you will find that R and D can be spent when money is involved in Entertainment, such as the Ben Bova Novel "Mars" where the cliff dwellings were going to be turned into a giant tourist place, such future thoughts are based on the past as well. Capitalism tends to be able to support such things. Entertainment in the form of movies also funds many things. Art imitates life. War also provides us with the must win efforts needed to put necessity in the mother's seat. Thus today we have satellite TV, Weather, Communication and such things as Nuclear Energy, Microwave ovens etc. A flying sphere must counteract the lift caused by it's shape as well. This may be a little more difficult to factor in as the speed changes, speed of wind changes both direction and speed, etc. Here are some thoughts on the effect of the relative wind on the 322 nippled object, which has become a symbol of American Wealth and recreation and elite status. http://www.jsc.nasa.gov/er/seh/pg76s95.html We know from studying UFO types of shapes that there are significant issues with vertical take-off spheres, the military and interested theorists have tested these things and discovered that the differences once up to speed are substantial almost to the point of being un-usable as it approaches super-sonic. Actually when traveling within a dense atmosphere or fluid like water, that shape does not work well compared to other shapes we have discovered; http://www.webcom.com/petrich/writings/UFO_AA_Paradoxes.html#FlyingSaucer When we study under water submersibles we also see interesting fluid dynamics involved. Since we have been building spheres for deepsea exploration we have studied these things. In fluid dynamics the only difference in that from air is the density of the fluid. If you drop a marble from a boat this is the flow it creates on it's way to the bottom. As we study all types of shapes, we see that some are better than others for different needs. Unfortunately a flying sphere is the best for combating gravity and control, but it is not the best for forward momentum within a dense atmosphere. Is our need to promote the sphere over other shapes a factor of our surroundings. Such as the moon, stars or Earth? And if the Earth is not involved in such innate needs since we did not even believe the Earth was roundish until the last millennium. We may find that a sphere is not the best shape of a flying craft, which can defeat the effects of gravity. Actually gravity is a rather weak force when compared to other forces in such as that of ion bonding, quantum physics, etc. In the future controllable thrust through jets like that in a Jacuzzi may provide the answer to counteracting gravity and simultaneously providing stability while traveling within an atmosphere, ocean, gas or hot liquid. But probably the sphere although it lends itself to magnetic levitation to counteract gravity may not be as feasible for traveling through the same atmosphere at high speeds. If you have thoughts on how to complete a flying sphere project and provide adequate controls at both high and low speeds using other technologies. Cloaking the Postage Stamp Modern Aircraft Carrier By using a special coating on the deck of an aircraft carrier and a projector on the top of the tallest communications mast facing down, we could project the image of the ocean onto the deck like a giant IMAX theatre screen. Although this sounds like a daunting task, it isn't really. There are many new materials, which are used on roadways, which allow for reflection for auto safety. Also many new materials and coatings being used, which absorb heat, radar, sound, etc. A combination of these materials and coatings on the deck of an aircraft carrier would protect it from aerial surveillance UAVs, high altitude blimps and some satellites. Observers in aircraft with less sophisticated electronics would not see it either. Some might think that our technology has not come along this far as of late, but I can assure you such a concept can not only be made possible but deployed in less than six months. Energy and America Micro Blimps Cleaning the Air in Buildings to Eliminate Anthrax spores Presently mini-blimps are being deployed in government leadership buildings as sensor units to identify biological threats in the air. We believe this new technology being deployed in this way is a most excellent use of such technology. We believe we should go one step better. Anthrax spores can be killed by some household cleaners, it is for that reason we propose a vacuum cleaner system within these blimps. The new mini-blimp device will be an "Anthrax Killing Machine," or AKM it will operate in the air much the same as a robotic pool sweep. Magnetic Propulsion for GI Joe? Thought of the day. I talked to an old guy who gave me this idea, he wanted to create a magnet propelled anti-gravity and directional control craft. MPAGDCV. Here is the thought a platform with a magnet attracting steel front a rear panel s placed on a platform with a seat. A ring of a gyro is placed with it's axis on the CG-Center of gravity. The ring spins around the seat platform with a magnet on the apex of the arch in front and on the back is a magnet faced backwards which repels. As the ring spins the forward momentum flips the magnet over on each side depending on the direction of intended travel. Brain Waves Activating to the Tune of a Different Drummer? Well, here is a most interesting thought. There are many who have heart murmurs from birth and many with heart murmurs, which are not negative from a health standpoint. Is Thought Evident in Plants? Who would have thought that a plant could be a witness to a crime ? and even testify against the perpetrator? Well, it is true! In the early 1970's experiments were done on ordinary houseplants, by researchers who connected a polygraph machine to a plant. Acoustic Transducers and Light Waves for VSTOL, a Concept Is it possible to use many acoustic transducers underneath an aircraft in a crisscross fashion to make the air much thicker. Almost like a platform that a VSTOL aircraft using low pressure could use to push off of? Although the amount of energy to be required to do this might be substantial; it seems to be possible. Droughts and Salt Water Canals Random Thoughts We need solutions to our drought crisis in this country. There are simple but expensive solutions; for instance; Desalination, salt water rivers and conservation strategies. Now before you accusing me of hyping any of the newest technologies or try to tell me it costs too much, let me explain something about the Earth's water supply. Only 3% of the Earth's Water is fresh. This includes the water and moisture in the clouds, underground reservoirs, rivers, lakes, streams and pipelines. So if we keep increasing the population of mammals we will need to have a larger supply of fresh water. The oceans are full and the atmosphere converts this to fresh water and then it rains and we collect it. So far we end up flooding areas when we make it rain or we fail. We use up all the fresh water in the waterways, which pass through our cities and we waste the rest on things that are not important unless you love what Tiger Woods does. People say it will cost too much to take water from the ocean where 70 percent of our population lives and turn it into fresh water to serve that population's growing needs. Well I say it does not cost that much at all. Water generally and it depends where you live in the US, costs about $ 1.60-2.10 per 743 gallons, (a unit of water) do not ask me about our system of measurement I am still trying to figure out how much a fathom, knot, bushel or pint is. Apparently the scientists have not figured out the difference between a yard and a meter either judging by the crash of the last Mars Probe a few years back, even though I do not believe it actually crashed. Randomness Versus Predetermination Science is inherently a series of experiments within closed systems. A known starting points, then a prediction on what will happen based on a set of starting parameters. Once the prediction can be reproduced this is gauged as fact. Earthquakes, Tsunamis, Mudslides: Extreme Events - What Do They Mean? In lieu of recent, tumultuous occurrences, people are more compelled than ever to discover the mystery of these modern-day, earth-changing events. UAV Mini - Torpedo Bombers for Eliminating Hydro Cushioned Water Craft UAVs can carry cargo, some of the very tiny UAV units can hold up to 11 lbs. Which is not much, however. A one-way UAV could fly over a river that is used for transporting troops and supplies by your enemy via hydro-craft, which can hover over regular water. These mines would normally be set by Navy Seals, by using small robotic units we can save the risk of life unless it is totally necessary. Diamond Flashes Beyond magnificence and splendor, the world of diamonds evolves on stirred grounds. When the stake is so important, interests collide. But technology develops following its onward course. Here are some interesting off-stage events in the diamond industry and innovations in technology. Confusing MAV Optic Flow Sensors In flight Using Mobiles Using Shapes on Mobiles to confuse optic flow sensors in Micro Air Vehicles appears to be feasible. Today we are studying the flight paths of Bats, Insects even birds to build and fly miniature UAVs; called Micro Air Vehicles or MAVs. There is significant research being done on this. The goal is to have mini MAVs the size of dragonflies, about 15 CM, which are autonomous and can fly through tunnels, under tree lines, under small bridges and navigate around obstacles. By using the optical flow sensors a new technology of mind boggling proportions the tiny MAV would take send out pulses and capture images, as the next pulse sees the image again it is bigger, this way the tiny MAV can sense when it is really big and getting close so it can then fly around it. There are two ideas, one is to use a single sensor unit and the other is to use multiple sensors. If you have ever studied insects, how they fly and navigate, you can see the enormity of the mathematics and algorithms it takes to make all this happen. Here is how it all works you will have to read all of these papers to understand this concept and to continue such discussion; Gulf of Mexico Formed by a Rotating Hurricane Trapped in the Region Recently in a coffee shop I met a gentleman who had dismissed himself from University Level Study and had developed some interesting theories on land formations of the Americas. His theory included a concept that the Gulf of Mexico some 2.5 billion plus years ago was situated in a place where extreme weather occurred and Hurricanes of a category we have never seen in our present period existed. In his theory these Hurricanes were more like Category VII. Currently our Hurricane Categories on the Saffir/Simpson Hurricane Scale go from one to five Categories. Category Five of course being winds of 155 mph or more; in the Pacific Ocean the Typhoons have much higher winds than this. Mini Robots Grid Meteorite Search We need very much to study meteorites more, but we need more sampling to get this done. One way to do this is to go out hunting for meteorites. This is much easier said than done. But perhaps using some current technology it will not be quite so hard. For instance AFF Automated flight following systems has been used for more than a decade now. It uses GPS tracking by satellite to guide aerial fire fighting aircraft into the drop zone to let loose of their fire retardant. This is especially important when you cannot see and know that there is no ILS Instrument Landing System to guide you in. Global Dumbing? I am beginning to wonder if scientists have been getting it all wrong. All this time, people have been worried about the Ozone, or a giant asteroid, or some breakout of a bio-hazardous agent by a terrorist organization being the doom of mankind. We have spent all this time looking outward instead of inward towards ourselves. Planet Hugging Tree hugging is a thing of the past. It is not just about the trees anymore. It is about the air, the ocean, the earth, the ozone, the future. There are new concerns about the environment every day; it is a crisis unlike any other. You must care about the conditions under which the future generations will have to live, you must care about every aspect of the environment on the planet of which we live, and most importantly, you must care about fixing the problems that have already been created instead of simply making "Band-Aid" (Nering 352) solutions for these potential disasters. Increasing Lightening Storm Intensity and Direction Control of Strikes Using four UAVs in formation with one C-130 Hercules Aircraft or 747 with onboard laser: Rodent Populations are Half within 3 miles of a Railroad Track About a month ago, I was helping a friend collect meteorites. We picked out a grid pattern and started walking six to 9 feet apart with metal detectors looking for the iron-nickel meteorites which are quite common here on the Earth's surface The grid is large and takes many days to even make a dent in it and each time we are able to collect some meteorites. One thing we noticed was that we would scare little rodents in bushes and they would take off running. Yet as we approached railroad tracks we noticed fewer and fewer rodents living there. |
