Just Remind Yourself
This is one more article on "Organizing and Enjoying Your Life". Much has already been written about this in magazines, books and on Internet. In this article, I am summing up the important points; some of which are from my practical experiences and remaining I have read. Have Goals To enjoy life and be successful, you must have both personal goals as well professional ones. Setting goals and then trying to achieve them should be the theme of your life. Some examples of goals are: PERSONAL GOALS * Keep yourself fit by walking at-least 30 minutes a day and exercising * thrice a week * Pray regularly to purify your soul * Spend quality time with your family * Read a book * Learn some new thing like a language * Use your creativity and innovativeness to develop some utility / application PROFESSIONAL GOALS * Complete your assigned task in time * Focus on what to do rather than how to do * Use systematic approach to deliver good quality product This list may go with no end and may vary from person to person but it is important that you set realistic goals in terms of your capabilities and time available.Never worry if some goal is not achieved rather try to find the reason behind it and take care of it next time. TIME MANAGEMENT This is the first step towards achieving your goals and organizing your life. Let us first see why it is important and later how to achieve it. Why important? > You will not miss any important task > You will finish your tasks in time > You don't have to ponder what to do next How to achieve it? > Prepare a master-list of to-do tasks > Spend few minutes at beginning & end of the day for planning your day and the coming one. > Categorize the tasks on priority and importance basis. For e.g. A ? Urgent and Important B ? Urgent but not Important C ? Not urgent but Important D ? Not Urgent and not Important Try to complete the tasks in the above sequence Organizing ? You should always carry a notebook and a pen. It is absolutely necessary as you have to jot down your goals, make a to-do list. You must also put on paper your thoughts and ideas; you never know when one of them will work. In addition to this, you must have an organizer that carry your and your family details, address-book, yearly plans, travel plans, financial charts, birthdays, anniversaries, meal plans and a shopping-list. EFFECTIVE DAILY ROUTINE Everyone has its own life-style and time available to him. Here is a sample daily routine that works quite fine for me. You can chalk-out a similar routine that suits you. 1. Get up at 7:30 am 2. Get Fresh. I also glimpse through newspaper during this time 3. Drink lemon-honey water 4. Plan out my day 5. Offer Namaz / Read Quran ? I LONG FOR THIS 6. Get ready for office 7. Have Breakfast 8. Leave for office by 9:15 am 9. At the end of office hours, prepare a list of official tasks to be done next day 10. By 6 pm, reach home 11. Top 10 Ways to Manage Yourself - Time Wise "Time management" is a myth. Time ticks by, whether you achieve what you want to or not in the run of a day or week. "Time waits for no man" as the saying goes. The only thing that you can manage, time-wise, is YOU. What To Do When Youre Short On Time And Long On Need! Everyday life can present us with opportunities to make us squirm. Countless numbers of tasks that we are juggling can cause dead lines to make that big swishing sound as they go flying by us. So, the next time you find yourself short on time and long on need, don't take a long walk off a short pier. Try this instead. Realistic Time Budgeting Tips I'm sure we've all had the experience of having a certain block of time available, and our to-do list tasks or goals that we want to accomplish in that time frame, only to turn around at the end of that period of time to have the frustrating experience of not getting nearly enough done that we thought we could. What happened? Where did all the time go? This can be in our personal / family lives, our jobs or our businesses. New Adventures - in Four Hours a Day "Can you find four extra hours in your day?" a voice came over the speaker on my office phone, first telemarketer call of the day. I chuckled and answered, "Not this week." Creative Leadership; Inspirational Power ( Part 2 ) Time management is absolute crucial nowadays where business decisions have to be taken often at the speed of light, leaders have to find spare time to prioritize their actions. Time Management: A Fresh View Last week I had the privilege of spending some quality time with a dear friend. Unfortunately we live on opposite sides of the world, so we do not spend a lot of time together, but when we do get together it is an uplifting experience. Living Life In A Time Starved World Recently I saw an advertisement for a time management booklet: "Shorter deadlines, competing priorities, endless meetings, interruptions and even higher quality expectations are just some of today's time challenges. And yet the number of hours in the day remains the same." Isn?t It Time For You? Does it seem like there is never enough time in the day? Why is there plenty of time for everyone and everything but ourselves? The fact is that you only get one shot at this life so it is important to spend it doing something you love. The good news is that you have a choice, you can continue to go on being overwhelmed letting time and life slip away, or you can make the time and start living the life you really want. Yes, this is easier said than done, so here are ten strategies, some old and some new, to help you gain control over your time. A Time-Saving Programming Tactic that Doesn?t Work Let's say that you have a software project that's under severe time pressure. Let's say that this deadline is so tight that you already know it will involve many late nights of black coffee and frenetic programming. What can you do to make this process go faster? Plan Your Day and Stick to Your Plan How many times have you remarked to someone that there are not enough hours in the day? The sad truth is, not matter how much you wish it, it is unlikely that you can get more than 24 hours in each day. So, the trick to time management is really how you get the most out of the hours you have. One way to do that is to become an exceptional planner of your day. It is not very difficult ? just takes some basic knowledge and a lot of discipline. As a coach, I can help you with both, but the knowledge is what I'll cover right now. Time Management: Setting up your Schedule for Success Would you describe yourself as extremely busy? Do you often feel tired andstressed out? Sometimes our ambition is our worst enemy. Many of us with biggoals try to do way too much. We spread ourselves a mile wide and an inch deep.We are involved in many different things, but aren't excelling at any one thing.Beware of mediocrity. Most of us want greatness. If that describes you, then youmust prioritize your endeavors and adjust your schedule accordingly.Assess your current schedule. Make a list of everything in your life that takes time. This includes school, work, extracurricular activities, sleeping, eating, studying, exercising, talking on the phone, hanging out with friends, chores, bathing, etc. ListEVERYTHING. Then note how many hours per week you need for each item to do itwell. Add up the hours. While there are only 168 hours in a week, many of us needtwo or three times that to accommodate our schedule. This is where stress andmediocrity come from.Make your list again, but this time, find a way to limit yourself to 168 hours. Thereare only two ways to do this: reduce the number of weekly hours per item, orreduce the number of items. I recommend the latter. Cutting activities you enjoyout of your life can be painful, but it's necessary. Handling Procrastination "TIME CANNOT BE 'MANAGED.' THE WHOLE CONCEPT OF TIME MANAGEMENT IS A BIT OBSCURE. THE ONLY THING THAT CAN BE MANAGED IS YOUR ACTIVITIES WITHIN THAT TIME." Let Someone Else Do It When you decide to become self-employed, you automatically become the "Chief, Cook, and Bottle Washer." Schedule Time for Interruption One of the most challenging situations people face when planning their day is how to stick to their schedule when they are constantly being interrupted. Just when your activities are organized, someone else's emergency seems to get in the way. A client has a crisis, co-workers are in a jam, your boss is breathing down your neck, a friend calls, or any of the dozens of other interruptions you face on any given day. Priorities: Dont Dry Your Dishes Do your dishes really need to be dried, or could you just let the water evaporate? If you spend just 5 minutes per meal drying dishes, that equals a quarter of an hour per day, or 91 hours each year. Time Management - Working Smarter at Work Let's look at your time management skills. Most of us have to work, and the more you can do in the least amount of time, the better. Working smarter frees you up so that not only do you have a job, but you have a life too! First Things Last Years ago clients would tell me they could not identify their priorities. Now I hear them saying 'I know what my priorities are?I just can't get to them'. How to Conquer the Five Major Time Wasters? * spreading yourself too thin You Cant Buy Time Our daily lives are inundated with a crammed to-do list. We are often rushing throughout our day trying to keep up with ourselves. Although technology has improved and simplified our lives, we are as pressed for time as past generations. Often your day seems so full, and you are so pressed for time that it is impossible to get in all there is to do, and yet a little quiet thinking will show that the important things can be easily put into two thirds of the day, and the remaining third is free for rest, or play, or both. You can feel normally pressed for time; and because of this pressure you can arrange in your mind what best to leave undone, and so relieve the pressure. If one thing seems as important to do as another you can make up your mind that of course you can only do what you have time for, and the remainder must go. You cannot do what you have time to do so well if you are worrying about what you have no time for. |
