The Ten Commandments Starring Charlton Heston
Last Saturday, the children were down at their grandparent's house and my husband was out of the house working, and I found myself home alone. This is very unusual for me. A quiet house doesn't often happen for me, so I savored the favor. It's a rare treat when I can actually watch television without any interruptions. So, as I relaxed by lying in bed with a bag of microwave popcorn and a bottle of Poland Spring, I clicked through the hundreds of channels that Optimum Cablevision provides. I came across The Ten Commandments. The Ten Commandments is one of my all time favorite biblical movies. I also love Jesus of Nazareth. And, generally, whenever either is on television, I make it a point to watch it. Unfortunately, I didn't catch it from the beginning. In fact, I missed the entire first hour of it. When I turned to it, Moses had already left Egypt and accepted his birthright as being Hebrew and had been banded from Egypt. The reason I bring up this movie is because I think it is the perfect movie to show how having complete faith in God can work miracles in your life. At the time I turned on the movie, Moses was just selecting his wife and apparently during the commercial a lot of time had went by because he now had a 7 year old son. Where Moses and his family lived, there was a mountain that was believed that God lived upon this mountain. Moses made the decision to climb the mountain and came face to face with the burning bush. When he came back down out of the mountain, the first thing Moses said was that he discovered God talks to us through our mind. That's an important statement. It is through the mind that we are connected to God and to each other. Then, immediately after coming off of the mountain, Moses went to Egypt. Why? Because God instructed him to go there. Moses didn't take time to think about it. He didn't say, well, I can't leave now, I already have some plans that I have to take care of. I can't leave now, if I do, I might lose my pension. If I leave now, I may not be able to come back and pick up from where I left off. If I leave now blah, blah, blah. Fill in the blanks with whatever excuses you use for not following God's instructions for your life. Moses didn't come up with any excuses. He was clear on the fact that he was to return to Egypt and so he did. Immediately. This is important. When God gives you an idea, you must act on it immediately. There are no excuses that should delay you. Now, when God first told Moses that he was to go to Egypt, talk with Pharaoh and tell him to "let my people go." Moses questioned God. He said, 'God, I don't think I am the person who is best qualified to do this. First of all, I am banned from Egypt. Secondly, how can I be a spokesperson for the Jews when I have a speech impediment? Perhaps you have the wrong guy for the job.' See, Moses was being Moses about it. He came up with an argument about how he wasn't qualified for the job. Isn't this exactly what we do all the time? We think about what our purpose may be, and then we come up with every excuse in the world as to how we are not qualified to do it. I can't possibly be a world famous motivational speaker. I can't even speak that well. I can't possibly help others learn about their finances, my finances are a mess. Who am I to do this? I don't think I can. Well, when God gives you an assignment, he doesn't simply give it to you and then leaves you alone. No, He goes with you. God told Moses, 'don't worry about it. When the time comes, you will know exactly what to say. If it makes you feel any better, bring your brother with you. Let him do the talking.' Great advice! If you feel you aren't good at something, find someone who is, and bring them along with you. God is not going to give you an assignment that you can't handle. He is not going to leave you high and dry. He will be with you. He will make all the circumstances work in your favor-so long as you have the faith that He will. Moses had faith. Moses had incredible faith. When I think of the scene when Pharaoh freed the Jews and then changed his mind again and went after them, the Jews were between a rock and a hard place-literally. On one side, there was Pharaoh and his chariots and army, and on the other side was a body of water. If they went in the water, they drowned. If the retreated to where they came from, they would be killed by Pharaoh's army. Now the people had no faith and started blaming Moses. "Why did you free us from slavery? Was it to get us killed out here in the wilderness?" But Moses never lost faith. Moses said, 'I know that God didn't lead us this far to have us die out here in the wilderness.' Now, Moses had no idea what to do but he knew that God had a plan. So, Moses, having the faith that he had, carrying his shaft, opened his arms and the water started to part. Now that is what I call FAITH. You must develop the same faith. You must believe that God has the answers even if you don't. You must have the faith that God has not brought you this far to let you die or suffer on your own. He is with you at all times. Develop the faith of Moses and watch miracles appear in your life. On Seeking The Silence Within every obstacle there is an equivalent or greater benefit.~Napoleon Hill Understanding the Tarot Card Deck - Part 1 One of the first steps toward understanding the Tarot lies in appreciating the meaning of its two Arcana ? the Major and the Minor. But even before that, the novice does well by committing to memory the meaning of "Arcana" ? defined as "mysterious knowledge, language, or information accessible only by the initiate." Bringing Heaven to Earth: Looking for the Good Everyday I am challenged to find the good in things: world events; newspaper headlines; hometown issues; even my marriage. Of all of the Spiritual Scientist characteristics this one seems to go in and out of focus the most. Are you Bringing Light or Discord? We are living in highly challenged times. Our mass consciousness directly reflects the discord in which many of us find ourselves within our own personal lives. Lonely Photos After first seeing my photography, people often try to understand the man behind the lens. "I'll bet he is..." Lonely. Sad. Depressed. Tortured. Lives alone. About the work itself, it is often quite positive, but about my personal life? Wayne Wirs is invariably... misunderstood. Meditations From a Spiritual Journey For me, the best poetry stirs my soul; it awakens my spirit through its clarity and simplicity. Its purpose is clean, pointing me towards greater understanding of who I am in this world, or, even better, towards comprehension of the divine that indwells both this world and me. It is this comprehension, this movement towards the divine, that enables each of us to make this world better as we work for justice and an "acting-out" of the divine's attributes. When Do You Pray? Lexie has brought more comfort and love to me than I can even describe. She has been my constant companion and my live connection with Brian. From Spiritual Cry Baby to Bold Seeker of Truth Ever notice how people dread discussing the truth about life? Their fear usually comes out as, "I never talk about that" or "Some things we're not supposed to know." They quickly cut off any probing of who they are and why they're here. How strange that people who are brave in everyday affairs tend to cringe and cower when asked to think about the reasons and powers behind their existence! Yet, what could be more urgent than to face your own reality? Humanity's spiritual jitters often stem from centuries of reliance on designated spokesmen who are said to be anointed or divinely appointed, or inspired, or trained in theology and who we are not allowed to question. Adding to our plight are society's cruel traditions of rewarding mass conformity and mocking original thinkers. This is a new day. Everyone has the right to know the secrets of the universe. Best of all is the stunning news that every person is capable of knowing the most awesome truths and the most loving principles. That includes you. To make the leap from spiritual cry baby to bold seeker of truth requires self examination. In quiet moments you must ask yourself what you really believe. Be willing to tolerate question marks in your search till you find answers that are perfect for you even if it takes years and years. Plunge your mind into the finest ideas ever put on paper. Or spoken to you directly or through various communication media .Or overheard in conversations among strangers. Make it your business to become familiar with the noblest thoughts of any age, any writer or speaker and any culture. No finer hobby could be found than to gather the wisdom of the world around you. There are tons of literature just waiting to be tapped-philosophy, religion, psychology, self-growth, self-realization, higher awareness, to name just a few. Wisdom comes in many flavors, so to speak-poetry, essays, scriptures, drama, comedy, satire. Start with short sayings and work your way up if you can't tackle the big stuff yet. Test all spiritual concepts to see if they work for you. Let's say you've heard of something called the Inner Kingdom. Find out all you can about it, but more importantly make up your mind that if such a glorious kingdom exists, you intend to find it and claim it as your own. Sure, this is scary. Of course, you'll be tempted to give up along the way. You may have to keep on crying to get through it all. Be a tough critic of all you find no matter the glowing reputation or fame of the speaker. Be prepared to discover that popular ideas are wrong more often than right. Teach yourself to know the difference between myth and proof. Inch along, with tiny tasks and timid steps. Finally, turn your search into success. You don't want to be a self-help junkie reading your life away and never lifting your own heart and soul. After investigation comes a time of grace, when you rise above books and arguments. You respect all worthy ideas, learned or lowly, and see how uneducated words of insight ascend to the same literary heaven with equal standing as the thoughts and teachings of spiritual celebrities. You make peace with conflicting scholars, scientists and saviors. Standing atop the knowledge of the ages you add your own voice to the crowd with new words that are your contribution to the eternal quest. What's the payoff? Is it worth all the trouble? After all to succeed means you probably have to spend long periods of time alone to ponder the great issues of life. You have to deal with destiny one-on-one with nobody to hold your hand or go in your place. Truth is the payoff and that may or may not pay the bills or eliminate your worries. Truth is its own fantastic reward. You will know that when you find it. Don't be surprised if you shout, "Hallelujah." Life is a Continuous Prayer Prayer doesn't just happen when we kneel or put our hands together and focus. Prayer actually occurs more often than we think. As Above, SO Below The 'As Above, So Below' law that is the combination of micro and macrocosmic reality likely comes from Hermes Trismegistus, a Babylonian who became a Pharaoh of Egypt according to the Arab Encyclopedia. Barrett is probably right about him being a legendary amalgam of people, but so what? This kind of semantic, pedantic, academic, squabbling just confuses the issue and people get to the point where they take one side or another, rather than integrate and see the effect of the power-mongers. In the time of Shakespeare the cosmogony relating the alchemic Dictum of Hermes was known as the Harmony of the Spheres. This Dictum is pictured on the back of Barrett's book Secret Societies as taken from 'Macoy's Cyclopedia' of things Masonic. But I cannot rehash all these things again, too much. I find many debunkers are agents of deceit like Barrett. I also wonder how Michel de Notredame's book escaped being on the Inquisitional Codex until the De Medici's had lost their influence centuries after his Prophecies were printed. God Versus the Gods Aristotle referred to happiness as the most we can achieve. Demons and gods were interchangeable in the time of Homer when people had far less institutionalized manipulation of their thoughts and soulful understandings. What is the 'anima' referred to by Aristotle and other sages? A Tale Of Three Essences Water of Enlightenment, Angel of Peace and Harmony for Nature are a trio of remarkable vibrational essences. They teach, raise our awareness and question what we know by their very existence. These three essences are even more remarkable because they are channelled essences. "Oh boy, this is a hard one to swallow" I hear you say. Just have an open mind and read on. 40 Days and 40 Nights I am beginning a journey starting tomorrow. I have decided that doing some serious soul searching is in order for me. I have been getting messages so to speak that make me realize I am changing into someone I don't particularly like right now. I feel ashamed and unworthy as a spiritual person and I need this chance to prove my worth not only to my self but to the One who created me. I am making some promises on this day, that I intend to take seriously and to heart, not just to heart though. I need to take this into my soul. Forgiveness: The Other Side If we are honest with ourselves, we would have to admit that the reason we have difficulty forgiving others is because we sincerely believe we are justified in our withholding forgiveness. We become the judge of the offenders and by harboring bitterness and resentment against them; it is our distorted way of meting out punishment. After all, our wounds are deep and our heart severely punctured. God Loves You With the Love of God Do you ever feel that what you read in some Christian books is not really God's truth at all, but is merely the opinion of the writer, dressed up in the clothing of truth? Such books are merely imposters and are like the fig tree Jesus cursed-they look promising on the outside, but when you get up close, you find that they, like the fig tree, are barren, written for the glory of the writer and his or her ideas, not for the truth of God and his glory. |
