The Abundant Life!
Count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. -ROMANS 6:11 My friend Randy had given up trying to live the Christian life. He said, "I have tried, but have failed so many times. Nothing seems to work for me." After listening to his account of his many failures and defeats, I began to explain the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Randy interrupted: "I know all about the Holy Spirit. I've read everything I can find, and nothing works for me." My thoughts turned to Romans 6. I asked him, "Randy, are you sure you're a Christian?" "Yes," he answered. "I'm sure." "How do you know?" "By faith," he responded, then cited Ephesians 2:8?9. "Scripture promises, 'For by grace you have been saved through faith-and this not from yourselves, it's a gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast.' I know I'm saved." "Why," I asked him, "do you trust God for your salvation, but not for His other promises concerning your rights as a child of God?" I read from Romans 6 and reminded Randy that every believer has access to the mighty supernatural power of the risen Christ. The same Holy Spirit who inspired Ephesians 2:8?9 also inspired Romans 6. By faith we can claim that sin no longer controls us, and we can live in the power of the resurrection as the Word promises. That day, God touched Randy's life. His spiritual eyes were opened, and he began, by faith, to live in accordance with his God-given heri-tage, to be "salt and light." As lighthouses for the Lord Jesus Christ, we are to do no less. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: You cannot live an abundant Christian life by yourself, but you can trust Jesus to live His supernatural resurrected life in and through you by faith through the enabling of the Holy Spirit. Go Beyond - You Are Your Own Best Friend, So Start Liking Yourself! A year ago, a beautiful woman came to see me. Her husband had been cheating on her and she wanted some advice regarding her future.Even though her eyes were dull, shoulders drawn and her face sad, I managed to look beyond that. Did you know that when you go "beyond", you can create new things? Beware of the Lobby Lizards Our church is infested with lobby lizards. They crawl around the lobby of the church while other activities are going on as if they already have mastered the topic the pastor is discussing. Maybe they have memorized the Bible so studying it in a small group isn't necessary. Whatever the case, the lobby lizards are multiplying! Out of the Closet? We may sometimes consider the difficulty that occurs with our acceptance of ourselves and of who we are in accordance with the expectations of others.Do you understand what I am talking about? Matthew 6:11 (NIV) Soul Provider I had the intention of writing about Soul Mates but it occurred to me to write more about a Soul on its own beforehand. I believe we need to address what we mean by a Soul before we get into anything else. Looking Back With A Pained Expression Anyone who tells you that the path to self-actualization is an easy one has never walked it. Along the way, we meet - head on! - the skeletons in our personal closets, and the process of coming to terms with our past and al that it brought into our lives is a long and solitary one. It's such a dark and lonely space that many people give up the journey, deciding that the "present moment self" - as imperfect as it may be! - will just have to suffice in this lifetime. Undercover Investigation It is important and necessary that we regularly spend time in purposeful self-examination. We need to take the time to examine our rationales, our pretenses, our masquerades, our motives, our justifications, and our reasoning. Where Are You Currently Heading? Do you know where your current path is taking you? Religion or Spirituality There is a natural tendency to asociate spirituality with religion, but they are very different. That I did not know before I researched and wrote "Spiritual Clarity." Religion is an organized system of beliefs in and the worship of God or gods. Spirituality is finding your own authentic self. Each individual needs to find their own way to spirituality and if that includes religion, so be it. Some people will be perfectly content to just believe as they are told, others will need more. Nothing is wrong with either path. New Hope For Global Peace In a recent article entitled "Some Evidence of How We Are Spiritually Connected" I reported on a case study where I was able to give some evidence as to how individuals who have overlapping life histories share such histories as information stored in what I term "interpersonal", "shared" or "collective" thought fields. These fields hold all the overlapping memories, experiences and beliefs that the individuals who are connected to those fields hold in their consciousnesses. Although your creative ability and talent is something that God has given TO you, it's primary purpose is not meant FOR YOU only. God's purpose for your gift is to be a benefit or solution for someone else who needs it. What this means to you as an artist is that the pursuit and development of your talent is important because there is someone out there who needs what you can do. God foresaw to equip you with the gift and talent that you have because He also foresaw how He needed it used to benefit others. Ego, Duality, and Paradise (Why You Cant Get to Paradise on an Ego Trip) If you've been on a conscious spiritual journey for any time at all, you have likely figured out that there is an aspect of you that is working overtime to keep you out of Nirvana. That pesky entity is none other than your ego. Your ego, however, does not realize it is a problem; instead, it believes itself to be your heroic savior and the only thing standing between you and extinction. Indeed, the ego is correct in this-without your ego, there would be no "you." Your ego is the aspect of your psyche that maintains the idea that you are an individuated, separate, autonomous being. Laboring under this notion, it attempts to steward your life according to this model, and rebels at the notion that you are actually one with all Creation. God Is Waiting To Bless Me In the year 2000, I went on a mission trip to Guatemala with Wycliffe Bible Translators. It was a weeklong trip where we were able to see the results of the Bible translation work in Guatemala. Before going, my friends were telling me I was going to become a missionary. I kept telling them, "No, I'm not. I'm just going to go on mission trips during the summers when school's out and I don't have to teach." |
