The History and Achievements of the Hubble Telescope
The Hubble Telescope is famous worldwide forits amazing images of the universe. Congressin 1977 voted to fund a project to construct theHubble. Completion of the telescope was in 1985.The Hubble was supposed to be launched a yearlater but was delayed because of the 1986 SpaceShuttle Challenger disaster. The Hubble Space Telescope was launched on April25th, 1990 on the space shuttle. The giant telescopeHubble sent back pictures from space that were outof focus. The giant mirror had a major flaw. It wastoo flat on one edge 1/50th of the width of a singlehuman hair. The Space Shuttle Endeavor in December 1993captured and corrected the Hubble by adding tothe telescope a camera to correct problems withthe Hubbles mirror. In February 1997 astronautsexchanged some of its instruments and addednew blankets to keep Hubble warm. NASA decidedon Oct. 1997 to extend its operations from 2005to 2010. Hubble's mission in space is to explore the solarsystem, and measure the age and size of theuniverse. Hubble's giant telescope searches for ourcosmic roots, and charts the evolution of the universe. It also trys to unlock the mysteries of stars, planets, galaxies, and life itself. Achievements of the Hubble NASA releases Orion Nebula images from the Hubblein June 1994 that confirms the births of planets aroundnewborn stars in space. In Nov. 1995 telescope images released by NASA of the"Eagle Nebula" showing where stars are born. NASA releases the "Deep Field" images in Jan. 1996in which Hubble looks back in time more than 10 billionyears. Revealing at least 1,500 galaxies at various stagesof development. New images of "Ant Nebula" in Feb. 2001. Copyright © JJ PERSISTENT PUBLISHING, INC. How Body Piercing Works -- The Ins and Outs of this Cutting Edge Process Body piercing (defined as any piercing beyond the standard earlobe piercing) has become such a popular form of body modification that between five and ten percent of the population of the United States has indulged in at least one form of it at some time in their lives. In most cases, once a person gets a body piercing, they follow the first one with more. There are lots of considerations; however, for making sure that your body piercing is done safely so that you don't end up with either an infection or a poorly done piercing that could leave an unsightly scar. Making a Lightening Storm? Here is a very basic concept idea/plan to harvest energy from Lightening. It is done in an artificial chamber, simulating weather in the atmosphere, but under exact and controlled circumstances; still in the incubation-thinking phase. It has incredible additional possibilities for all kinds of applications. I call it; AWCS- Project Artificial Weather Control Simulator. How Satellite TV Systems Originated What we know as satellite tv actually had its origins in the space race which began with the launching of the satellite Sputnik by the Russians in 1957. The first communication satellite was developed and launched by a consortium of business and government entities in 1963. It was known as Syncom II and achieved an orbit at 22,300 miles over the Atlantic. The first satellite communication was between a U.S. Navy ship in the harbor of Lagos, Nigeria and the U.S. Army located at the naval station at Lakehurst, New Jersey on July 26, 1963. MAV Propulsion and Testing Perhaps we should be looking into advancing the propulsion systems of MAVs, small UAVs by using magnetic propulsion to spin the propellers. When testing a UAV by trying to fly it under the canopy of trees or around sparsely populated tree areas or in cities with streets and housing we may find we have difficult issues. If the aircraft as proper angle of attack you might be able to slow it down, reverse the propeller spin, do a level flight tail slide, reverse the propeller again and fly right out of a box canyon or alley way. Or take pictures of your enemy, turn around and leave? Positive Effects of Carbon Dioxide for Plant Growth Many articles have been written about the negative effects of carbon dioxide. Sick Building Syndrome, loss of concentration due to high levels of carbon dioxide, asphyxiation in breweries or wine cellars, all these things spring to mind when we hear the magic phrase carbon dioxide. Yet, perhaps today when Venus passes across the face of the Sun, we should remember that our original atmosphere consisted of nitrogen and carbon dioxide. Free oxygen is something that is not really chemically possible. Yet we have it as a result of plant life busily photosynthesising and converting carbon dioxide into oxygen during daylight hours. This is the original use of solar energy! Electrical Industrys Protection - Destruction for Good Destruction! Blow Up! Eliminate! These are not pleasant words! Micro Blimps Cleaning the Air in Buildings to Eliminate Anthrax spores Presently mini-blimps are being deployed in government leadership buildings as sensor units to identify biological threats in the air. We believe this new technology being deployed in this way is a most excellent use of such technology. We believe we should go one step better. Anthrax spores can be killed by some household cleaners, it is for that reason we propose a vacuum cleaner system within these blimps. The new mini-blimp device will be an "Anthrax Killing Machine," or AKM it will operate in the air much the same as a robotic pool sweep. Composite Materials in Ships, Pipelines, Liners and Aircraft One future problem, which has not sufficiently been addressed, is that of the fumes and smoke created when composite material burns. Composite material is a truly great human achievement in material science, however as we use this material in more and more places we need to be acutely aware of the risks and potential consequences of their use. One risk is that many types of composite give of poison ness gaseous compounds such as cyanide gas. Not all composite materials will do this, but some do. Tsunami Defined Tsunami is a Japanese term that describes a large seismically generated sea wave which is capable of considerable destruction in certain coastal areas, especially where underwater earthquakes occur. Get Hot on Combustion Energy in the form of heat is obtained when fuel is burnt in air. The release of this heat energy can be slow or can be very rapid. Conspiring to Create Our Weather Some say the weather is totally random and does not exist in any pattern. Even some academia wonder kids show us kaleidoscope pictures of randomness and say see; this is why we cannot predict the weather. Please people give me a break. Just admit it, you don't know anything, you are all faking it. We do not need a bunch of hunch, fed to us like sack lunch. My Grandfather was 200 miles off the coast of NJ during the WWII before the invasion of Normandy calling in the weather to the likes of Churchill and General Dwight D Eisenhower. Surely we have come along better than that? Others agree the problem of accurate weather prediction is immense: Theoretically is it Possible to Defy Gravity? Many believe it is possible to build an anti-gravity machines and there are many small version which can do this by interfering with the gravity waves. Other say why build an anti-gravity wave machine when you can use the gravity to pull you the other way. Some say hogwash; conspiracy theories and UFOs and all the other stuff. They flat say it can never be done. If you see it done it is a trick, it is impossible they say. Gerald Hawkins There is something about the Hawkins clan that I like. My most adept and austere teacher was a Hawkins related to Black Jack the Privateer and I wonder if this man who died recently while happily flying his model airplanes is one of them. I think it is very possible that genetic information transfer is real. Mathematics and astronomy was his forte but he also had a gift for Public Relations when he ran the contest to pay a large sum to anyone who could do the math in Crop Circles. Many Sci Fi writers have discussed Earthquake predictions Cal Tech along with the Universities in Japan are on the leading edge of this new technology and it is quickly becoming a reality. Soon we will know months in advance of an expected quake and the precise time maybe known hours or minutes before it actually comes. Arthur C. Clarke discussed early Earthquake warnings in CA, in a couple of short essays and stories and then again in a two of his most famous novels. If you will recall the book, "Richter 10;" in this book they could predict the Earthquakes months in advance. Static Charge Pulse on Wind Generator Material Memory Blades Wind Power is considered a clean industry and is amongst the favorites of environmentalists and clean energy supporters. Unfortunately the wind generators rely on the wind and the wind is somewhat inconsistent in that sometimes it blows and some times it does not. There are some places in the United States like the California and Nevada Deserts, Hills of North Dakota, West Texas Plains, State of Wyoming where the wind seems to always be blowing and hard. Scientists do long intense studies to determine where the wind blows with the most force by studying weather patterns, terrain and updrafts for many seasons. It is through these studies we learn where to place our wind generators to get the most; "bang for the buck." You see wind generators are expensive to build and you also have to build power lines to take the energy to the grid. The is a definite monetary consideration and return on investment which must be calculated with or without the renewable energy infrastructure tax credits and deductions. UAV Defense, UAV Recovery, Material Research, Infected Birds with Virus Plastic Net When Manufacturing nets of any type: Going for strength and light weight is a challenge and it has been the compromise of many for so long in the battle to find the strongest net, sheet of plastic to mimic that of a Spider's web we have endured to no end. It is always and shall be for some time one of man's most important conquests in many of his fields of endeavors such as fishing. Due to friction of fluid in water, air; All of which is considered in terms of drag (parasite or induced) obstacles which man has to overcome this for speed and stability to properly position. The Impact of Efficient Epistemologies on Algorithms In recent years, much research has been devoted to the refinement of gigabit switches; nevertheless, few have constructed the synthesis of neural networks. The notion that cryptographers connect with large-scale theory is generally considered appropriate. Similarly, the lack of influence on theory of this discussion has been considered structured. Therefore, probabilistic models and cooperative theory do not necessarily obviate the need for the exploration of interrupts. Robotics Wars If we are having difficulty getting recruits into the army; lets hire some robots? General Patton's famous quote goes "?an army moves on it's stomach" and if you look at the needs of humans to complete a mission they require much in the way of logistical support, where as robots do not, sure some, but much less and we are not just talking about chaplains, psyche councilors, medics, recruiters, human resource personnel and cooks. Any component under the Joint Chiefs is full of a complexity of needs. Yet often it has been philosophized that a nation needs to do something with its young males to continue the civilization without undo disruptions. There is a lot of testosterone involved in the human spirit, a component during the younger years of piss and vinegar, which propels one's thoughts. Active Aerial Minefields Is it possible to build an active aerial minefield to protect our troops and in-country logistical supply lines? The answer is probably yes. The Germans attempted to use hot air balloons with charges on them. It did not work. However today we have many newer technologies that if put together it might be possible to actually build an active aerial mine field. For instance what about a "Metal Storm" with lightweight munitions inside hanging from Balloons. Down Scrolling Text to Find Patterns I believe a program can be written to scan text such as an email, story or article in Western Languages, which might indicate a pattern which maybe of valuable insight. By Down Scrolling Text, which we have all done, whether thinking about it or not, we will most likely Find Patterns Which Indicate Hostile Intentions, sadness, stress or vengefulness. Perhaps you can determine intelligence levels, etc. Try it sometime. Read 10 pages of text from an individual and then put yourself in the writer's shoes. Was he-she angry in the article or report? Were they honest in their summation or point of issue? Was there a point of issue? Or like the uni-bomber did they ramble somewhat? Look at the text of Mienkoff or patterns in the Declaration of Independence. |
