< To Buy or Not to Buy? Motivating Your Customers to Take Action!
All customers have a choice to make. Sometimes that choice is between your product and your competitor's, but sometimes it's not. Often, the customer's choice is simply whether to buy your product or nothing at all. If this is the actual choice your customer faces, it is important to determine this early in the conversation. Doing so will help you to use a tone and message that directly relates to your customer's emotional reasons for considering your product. There are some salespeople who are so focused on why their product is good and their competitor's is bad that they forget about the actual customer. Your customer wants a solution to their problem, and the only way to solve that problem is by understanding why they came to you in the first place. They want your attention to be on them, not your product. Talk about their individual buying motives for their purchase, not the technical or logical reasons why they should buy your product. This may seem counterintuitive, but it will encourage your customer to take action, and will create an environment where your customer will want to take that action with YOU. When a customer is deciding whether or not to act on the desire to buy a product, you must be able to point out the many benefits of acting on that desire now. Luckily, customers often understand that if they decide to do nothing, they will not enjoy the benefits of using your product. Draw on their desire to enjoy your product and create an environment where they will feel comfortable gaining it immediately. Sometimes, customers may not want to deal with the hassles of making a purchase and may feel comfortable succumbing to the simplicity of waiting and doing nothing. Your job is to make the purchase as smooth as possible and to eliminate any potential excuses for a decision to wait. You can eliminate these excuses by creating an atmosphere that will ensure that the purchase will be a smooth transaction and risk-free. Making the purchase a smooth transaction means eliminating any unnecessary steps that make the act of purchasing long and painful. Reduce as much of the technical paperwork as you can and try to make the decision to buy the last decision they will have to make. Simplifying the transaction will make their experience easier and more rewarding, and they will enjoy doing business with you. In order to take away the perceived risk of doing business with you, you can allow them a grace period in case they change their mind. You can also have some sort of guarantee that comforts them and reassures them that they are making the correct decision. Product trials also work well in gaining your customer's trust in you and your products. Do anything you can to help make your customer's decision to try your product an easy one. When they do not feel a risk in buying from you, they will feel comfortable making the decision to take action. Lastly, follow through with your customer after the purchase and reassure them that you and your company will support them throughout the life of your product. This needs to be more than a manufacturer's warranty and more heartfelt than telling them of your company's 97% satisfaction rating. Be personal. Be sincere. Look them in the eye so that they believe that their happiness is your goal. Eliminating the hassle and risks of the purchase will help your customer to focus on the benefits of taking immediate action in purchasing your product. Your customer will see that you understand the specific decision they face and will feel comfortable buying from you. When you use a tone and message that encourages them to take action, they will feel motivated and will have no excuse to wait. They will enjoy the benefits of their purchase and you will enjoy the benefits of the sale. Being a good listener requires more than just keeping quiet while the other person is talking. Do you hear everything that is being said? Do you understand it completely? Remember These Ten Rules and Succeed There are thousands of books and seminars on how to succeed. What many don't make explicit is the requirement to be a great salesperson ? even if you're selling an idea! How To Seal The Deal In Seven Seconds Can you close a sale in just seven seconds? If you make a great first impression, you can do it even faster. Seven seconds is the average length of time you have to make a first impression. If yours is not good, you won't get another chance with that potential client. But if you make a great first impression you can bet that the client is more likely to take you and your company seriously. Whats Your Clients Style? When it comes to effective selling, one simple fact never changes: Selling is a relationship business. You already know all about your company's products and services ? and you've learned the fundamental aspects of the sales cycle. Instead of Discounting, Back Some Value Out of Your Proposal Last minute discounting has become so prevalent that many companies have come to depend on it as their default sales strategy. Employing a go-to-market strategy of being the lowest cost provider is one thing, but dramatic, tactical discounting on every deal will erode your company's margins and leave you digging a deeper and deeper hole in which your company will ultimately bury itself.I don't want to give you the impression that discounting is never appropriate. I can think of three scenarios where it is required: Keep the Referrals Coming A key method of our survival in the business and retail world is referrals. Referrals are always nice, because they come from someone on the outside of your company who has enough trust and faith in you to refer someone in your direction. Restaurant Pressure Washing Many pressure washing companies try to stay away from the restaurant pressure washing business, while other specialize in it. One reason some do not like it is due to the all the grease, which gets on their hoses and equipment, which in itself is difficult to clean off. Another reason is due to the difficulty in retaining the waste wash water. Sometimes the jobs can be tough as I remember one where in a Chinese Restaurant the owner finally leveled with us that the place had not been cleaned for 20-years. Needless to say we killed our share of cockroaches that night indeed. Talking To A Prospect As If To A Friend While working with a new coaching client, I asked to hear her sound bite. Everyone needs a good sound bite. A sound bite, sometimes also called an "elevator speech," is a 10- to 15-second commercial on what your company does, offers or stands for. Use it when you meet someone new in business, use it at networking meetings, and use it on the telephone as part of your introductory calling script. The Hands On Approach While living in the technology age where everything is computerized, digitized, and auto-responded, it is very easy to forget where we came from, and how all of this progress has almost completely wiped out the personal touch. John Di Lemme on "Miracles are your responsibility" The Benefits of Buying Used Store Fixtures The difference between antique or vintage store fixtures and used store fixtures is simple: antique fixtures have a classic look and style. In many cases they are brand new but manufactured in a style of the past such as deco or minimalist. Used store fixtures are just that ?- they've been used before. They may be only six months old, purchased by a retail store owner who failed quickly. They may be in good shape and being they're not new, if they are what you are looking for, they're probably cheap. Value-added Selling? "Value-added." That word is used so much it has become a cliché in business circles. There may not be a business in the world that doesn't claim to be a "value-added" seller. How Sellers Can Take Control For centuries ? at least since the serpent convinced Eve to eat the apple ? sellers have assumed that getting the right information about a product into the right hands would offer a good chance of a sale.
