< What Are Car Boot Sales?
If you live in England then you will already be familiar with car boot sales but I will still offer some valuable tips on how you can make money or find a bargain. However, if you are a resident of any other country then you are unlikely to know what car boot sales are and I hope to enlighten you as to these weekly events. Firstly, a car boot is the same as a car trunk. So, car boot sales involve selling items from the back of your car. Well, that is how they began. Car boot sales used to be a small gathering of people who filled the back of their cars with goods that they wanted to dispose of and set up a trading stall in the hope that they could make a few pennies from their unwanted goods. Car boot sales have now become big business. Think of them as an offline version of EBay. Car boot sales typically take place on a Sunday, although it is true that their popularity has led to them occurring on other days of the week. The most common locations for car boot sales are parking lots or even fields, anywhere that can accommodate a number of traders. The sellers pay a fee to park their car and put up a table on which to display their goods. Nowadays, there are professional 'car booters' who visit sales on a regular basis and may even have a truck full of goods for sale. Most car boot sales do not charge an entrance fee for buyers who walk in to see if they can pick up a bargain but a growing number of organisers have realised that having an entrance fee, however small, can bring them extra income. So, once you have decided that you have unwanted items that you want to sell at one of the car boot sales there are a number of tips to ensure that you leave at the end of the sale with more money than unsold items. Ideally you want to have your goods in the best possible condition to attract high volume of sales. To be specific, if you have baby clothes that your child has grown out of then you want to make sure that they are washed and stain-free. Car boot sales attract buyers in search of a bargain but also of certain standards. You should always have an idea of how much you want for an item that you are selling at car boot sales but be prepared to accept less. Haggling is a major part of car boot sales and you are wiser to accept a slightly lower price to make successful sales rather than stick to your original price and end up taking your goods home. If you are a buyer at car boot sales then you need to be careful when it comes to electrical equipment especially. I have been conned quite a few times into buying kitchen equipment that it turned out did not work once I got it home. There are a lot of people at car boot sales who are genuine about saying that a particular item is in working order but it is impossible to connect an item to the mains and test it in the middle of a field so be careful. Car boot sales can be great fun if you are a buyer or a seller. As with everything else in life you need to be selective and not buy something you don't need, unless you want to have your own stall at one of the many car boot sales happening next week! Forgive All Ebay Sins! And did so in this case. But it would have been customer friendlier for this seller to accept my retraction to be replaced with a bid. He would have gotten repeat business from me and my friends. His "Buy Now" price is 30% over the retail price for this item. Lesson learned by me again - that there are way too many sellers on Ebay out to grab a buck and the hell with fair practice.Lesson learned yet again." BobAnn End quote? The operative phrase here is "repeat business from me and my friends". There is no better endorsement of your product or service than word of mouth advertising. Lack of flexibility on the part of the seller, not only cost them one customer, but also destroyed the possibility for future business. Good news travels fast, but bad news travels faster! As an auction seller, (Ebay auction ID: LevelBest77) I would have accommodated her request right away. And while I have never had anyone use "Buy It Now" by accident, I have had several people over the years ask me to retract bids. The number of people who have made that request can be counted on one hand! Some, did not even understand the process, (bid retracting) and I was more than willing to guide them through it. Selling Abilities - Part 1 Selling "-abilities": Reliability 5 Tips to Choosing a Direct Sales Business With hundreds of direct sales companies out there, how do you choose the right one for you? Here are a few tips to make sure you choose the right one the first time: Its Better When They Tell Them You know that word of mouth can grow your business. You hear your customers say nice things about your company all the time. So why don't they tell people? And, why don't they write it down? A Pause For Thought You can have your cake and eat it. My Competitor Has a Better Product The topic of this issue's article is a response to a question submitted by one of my newsletter readers. Why Write a Sales Letter for Each Product? Authors/publishers are great at getting their books written. Entrepreneurs know their products. But after the initial one-year honeymoon, sales slow down. To counter this make sure your ebook, product, or service you offer will keep on selling from the first day, the first year, even for life. Write a short sales letter for each product or ebook. Selling the Dr. Seuss Way "I am Sam. Sam I am. Do you like green eggs and ham? Would you like them here or there? Would you like them in a box, would you like them with a fox?" Successfully Selling Your Professional Services As a professional service provider you face special challenges promoting yourself to potential clients. You may have certain restrictions on how you market or advertise. You may feel overwhelmed by the demands of being both owner and employee. You might not have a strong base of effective selling & marketing skills. In addition, you may believe that self promotion is somehow unprofessional and pushy or even unnecessary. Very often, professionals "open up shop" and expect, much like in the Field of Dreams, "if you build it, they will come." Why You Buy, Part Three Still more discoveries from the recent studies in behavioral economics: Selling Services Selling a service isn't the same as selling a product. Your prospect is buying an intangible. There are no shiny buttons to show off. You and your company are the visible representations of the service. You need to live up to them in your image. (marketing) And in how you "court" the prospect. (sales) Before You Sell Do The Math This is an important and potentially profitable piece of advice. It goes like this - before you ever attempt to sell any products and services - do the math. Prepare to Sell! Sales is a critical part of any business, including non-profits. Sales is not complicated or difficult, but requires preparation, consistent action and a plan. Before completing any preparatory work in sales, consider asking yourself some tough questions. Color Psychology Will Make Or Break Your Sales Success Color psychology is the biggest question I receive on aregular basis. The reason being is it's importance. Coloris a trigger that is associated with traditions and used inmarketing over the years so well that they must be honoredor sales are lost. Value-added Selling? "Value-added." That word is used so much it has become a cliché in business circles. There may not be a business in the world that doesn't claim to be a "value-added" seller. Why Arent They Buying? You've polished your sales page over and over againuntil it's gleaming with benefits. You're gettingplenty of traffic. And still - no sales. Money Does Talk! When buying something, you can buy in one of two markets. The first is buying on terms in the retail market and the second is buying in the wholesale cash market. This can be illustrated by referring to the biggest purchase we all make in our lifetime - Real Estate. Sex Sells! An attractive woman has a decided advantage as sales representative over her male counterpart. This "selling edge" is primarily due to the existence of the "glass ceiling" found in most business organizations today. The glass ceiling (women are still arbitrarily held back from leadership positions) means that there are many more men in decision-making positions in businesses than women. Therefore, when cold calling, an attractive woman has a better chance of getting an appointment for a sales presentation, than does a man. Women are also given more attention in their presentations and less resistance up to a point, than a male sales representative or service industry professional (accountants, attorneys, consultants, bankers, etc.). This advantage has everything to do with sex and the physical appeal of a woman. It is clear to me as a sales trainer, coaching sales representatives and service industry professionals in the field, that male decision-makers often use a different part of their anatomy than their head to make their buying decisions. Who Takes Your Money Your business is making profits, but where is the cash? It seems that someone has taken away your money. Your bank account is still the same, and your personal wealth is still the same. There must be someone that took your money. Based on my over 18 years of professional experience and study, there are 8 persons that take away your money without your knowing... Another Warm Lead Saturday morning, I sat in my pajamas, sipping strong, black coffee and petting Ms. Kitty Cat. The telephone rang. Usually on a Saturday morning, I screen my calls, but this morning, expecting a friend, I picked up. |
