Positive Attitude is Not Enough
Contrary to the popular saying "attitude is everything" attittude is not enough. You can have the right attitude and all the motivation in the world and still wind up playing "dead atheist." You know, all dressed up and nowhere to go! The key is that the right attitude must be followed by the right actions. That's the bottom line of the doing part you mentioned in your question. Renowned motivational expert Anthony Robbins says that one of the keys to success is to "take action." In his work with getting people to take action, Robbins speaks often of "massive, intelligent action." I've taken that concept and expanded on it a bit, and created a concept called "CMICA (pronounced ka-mee-ka). CMICA stands for Consistent, Massive, Intelligent, Creative Action. Let's look at each of these key factors below. Consistent - For action to be successful, it has to be consistent. My friends in the health club industry tell me that January is the time of year when the most people will join a health club or gym. A very few will then show up and work out regularly. A few others will show up occassionaly. My friends tell me that most people show up once or twice and then are never seen again. Seems like that's how we often approach taking action. "Well, I did it a couple of times and it just didn't work for me." Yeah right. Nothing other than small, consistent, daily actions will bring you the success you desire. Massive - Massive action simply means to "do all the necessary things" to get you where you want to go. Not a few, not some, not most, but ALL necessary things required to get your goal. A common question at this point is "what are all the necessary thinngs I need to do?" That's a goog question, which leads us to........ Intelligent - The great news here is that the wheel has already been invented. By this I mean that what you what to accomplish has probably already been done. Through the process of modelling, we simply need to find someone who has done or is doing what we want to do and model their keys to success. Rememer, if it's possible in the world, it's possible for you. At the same time, don't confuse activity with achievement. Make sure you are spending your time and energy on actions that get you closer the to your goal, and are not simply busy work. Creative - If you want to really have some fun, be creative in your actions. While you are taking intelligent action, also ask the question "How can I do this in ways that have never been done before?" Here's a four step process to get your creativity going: 1) Precisely define your goal. 2) Identify efforts that have not worked in the past and drop them. 3) Come up with crazy, silly, bizzare, outlandish ways to achieve your goal, that you would never do, but are fun to think about. 4) Come up with creative ideas that will get you where you want to go. Sometimes the seeds for these creative ideas are in the crazy ideas. Other times, simply laughing at the crazy ideas will boost your creative juices for other solutions. Action - Consistent, massive, intelligent, creatice ACTION is the path to success. Remember, trying is not doing. Doing is doing. Oh, and one last thing before I close: get out there and do it! Anger And Your Driving Are you driving under the influence of impaired emotions? The Power of a Positive Attitude You wake up in the morning sleepy and fatigued; the day has to start but you do not want it to. You stumble around; stub your toe on the dresser and step on the dog. What do you do, get mad and waste the day with anger or get excited because you woke up this morning and the day is going to be awesome. Halt All Complaining Have you ever thought about you have a lot to be thankful for. Lets look at some of the things most people don't look at: Just Another Day During a Messenger chat session the other day, I asked a fellow how his day was going. "S.S.D.D.", was his response. Fearing the Future: I am what I Fear! When we were children, we were fearless. We would stick our hands in the fire, chew on the beetle bugs, and eat that dirt. But, over time, we learned those things that we should not do through experience and from "parental voices" --- those baseless fears passed down through the generations. Later in life, we learned that fire burns, beetle bugs are "yucky" and dirt is not nutritious. But, we also learned all of the things that our parents learned, including their fears and phobias, and integrated those lessons into our own "belief systems." Self-Recovery from Addiction: Taking Responsibility for Your Life I've had several coaching clients come to me who, while they wanted to move forward in life, were actually stuck in a self-destructive addiction. Of course, I cannot directly confront them about their addictions, as they had to open up to me that it was part of the problem that was keeping them in the same rut in which they found themselves day-after-day. As we worked together to make plans and open doors, the addiction was left open for them to examine and realize that they needed to overcome the situation, and cut loose that anchor to move forward to a fulfilling life. Life Is Not Always Fair I once heard the story of a grown bear that lived in a cage and traveled with a circus ever since he was a small cub. The bear spent everyday of his life pacing back and forth in his cage while countless spectators looked on. When the bear's keepers were not looking some of the spectators would poke the bear with sharp sticks or would throw pieces of food filled with broken glass into the cage. When the great bear would eat what he thought was a wonderful treat, the broken glass would cut the inside of his throat and stomach. 5 Proven Ways to Safely Make Positive Life Changes One of the most important aspects of living a healthy andprosperous life is understanding "risk." By this I mean knowinghow to understand and analyze situations in life that affecthealth. Being able to accurately weigh benefits and risks whenmaking health decisions is very important! Too often decisionsare based on incomplete or inaccurate information and this is ahuge mistake with significant consequences! Welcoming the Unexpected As I walked my dogs recently on what "should" have been a beautiful and balmy spring morning here in Las Vegas, I was bundled up, head ducked into the wind wishing spring would hurry up and get here. It was a day that reminded me more of mid-December than early May. It also reminded me of how programmed we are to expect things to be predictable (meaning: to be as we want them to be), whether that is in matters of weather or anything else. Life is, by its very nature, unpredictable. And there is no end to the misery we generate expecting it to be otherwise. From Stress to Adventure Ten tips to transform your move into a creative life transition. What Every Employee Should Know About How to Maximize His Potential for Success There are countless books that describe success principles. Here are a few principles that I have summarized for you: Creating Icebergs Out Of Hostility Have you ever dreaded an upcoming presentation, meeting or function because you just knew that the group would be hostile? Maybe you had heard that these people are very critical, even aggressive. Balanced Living: 18 Steps A balanced life not only leaves you feeling more fulfilled; you will become healthier in body as well as mind. Ponder on each step below. One per day is the ideal. If you rush then you are failing before you begin. Taking your time over anything is the first positive step to a sustainable success in all things. Anything worthwhile ? they say ? is worth waiting for. Today we cannot wait for anything ? allow your self the luxury of slowing down and discover you will actually achieve more. Such Is Life, And Its Getting Sucher And Sucher Problems, disappointments and trouble; the three skunks that sometimes think they are our children. At least they want to stay around long enough to give us a college education. But the education we get may be only half the story, See what you think! Is ADD Getting You Down? 6 Tips to Sharpen Your Celebrating Skills Celebrating is a skill that adults with ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) are often short on. They tend to have a negative image of themselves. Their own internal gremlin keeps reminding them of their failures and unrealized dreams and "the others" in the outside world often remind them when they don't live up to expectations. Spring Into Enchantment Who can control a smile sneaking across your face as you go outside on a beautiful spring day, suddenly finding your nostrils filled with a sweet aroma of fresh blooms, while feeling warm breezes against your skin, whispering, "No coat today."? Nature provides enchantment all around us in the spring. The birds sing, the flowers bloom, animals have their babies, new birds learn to fly. If you look high up in a tree you might see an exquisite bird singing loudly, full of life. It is as if nature gives humans an opportunity for enchantment all around. Yet, we often are indifferent, not responding spontaneously to the rebirth of spring. We seem to be, at times, equipped to live lives of misery brought on by ourselves. Many of us are able to generate a bad mood, put ourselves down, see our future as dark or today as gloomy. We have lost or never had the easy comfort and capacity to relax and enjoy life that a cat has on a sunny porch just snoozing and rolling over. We humans have to work at enchantment. Let s take a moment and look at what the major components of this work called "enchantment" are. Combat Your Bad Days No matter how positive a person we are overall, there are times in our lives where our feelings well up and give us the sense that our situation could be better (for some it even reaches the point where they get a feeling of hopelessness). Turning Fear Into Power How would your life shift if you moved into what you feared not away from it, if you moved into the future with controlled abandon ?think about it! One of the things I know from working with people for close to two decades and from my own development is that ? things change. And yet how many people say they hate change. If change is inevitable in growth and you hate change you have a bad equation for a good life. Taming Your Gremlin "Who am I fooling?" "I'm a loser," "I'm too old," "I'm fat," "I'm not smart enough," "I have no talent," "I'll never finish it," "It's too late," "I'm not good enough," and on and on.
