When Will the World Wake Up?
How can any human being today, anywhere in this world, not be fearful and angry? We have turned into a society where hate is a primary emotion. People are killing people, nations are destroying nations; it's a never ending battle of might over right. Is that magnificent line from Eden Ahbez's song "Nature Boy" no longer what defines us as a civilized society? 'The greatest gift that we can learn is just to love and be loved in return.' It's a great line, a golden rule if ever there was one. It's the philosophy of life. Have not our leaders, all leaders throughout the world, realized yet that terrorism begets terrorism? Hate begets hate? Actions beget reactions, whether positive or negative? Have we forgotten love begets love, goodness triumphs over evil, live and let live? The world has become a free-for-all in which there is no sense or sanity anymore, and where the victims are our children. Don't we have a responsibility to protect them? To shield them from the realities of hate, prejudice, immorality, fear, and pessimism? It is no wonder we have more depressed children than ever before, more children on medication, more children acting out their anger and angst against others in ways we could never before have comprehended. What is to become of our next generation as they grow into adults? What is to become of the twenty-first century? Where is all this negativity leading? What frightening questions. People must look to the past to understand the present and prepare for the future. In modern, civilized times, let's go back just some 65 years as an example. On November 9, 1938, Adolf Hitler's Nazi Party smashed all the window of every Jewish family's home, synagogue, and business (Kristallnacht - The Night of Broken Glass) and herded them like chattle into ghettos. No one came to help them. It was the beginning of a genocide we still can't, nor should not, ever forget. When no country would take them in, as if they were vermin, not even the United States, these millions of people were moved into concentration camps throughout Eastern Europe, separated from their families, starved and tortured, not for anything they had done, but for who they were. And then the horror began as the mass shootings, gas chambers, and indiscriminate murders started. The United States did not come to the Jewish people's aid until 1941 when Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese. What would have happened if the Japanese didn't attack? Would the United States have joined the allies to help save these destined people? Or would they have allowed the genocide to continue, the illegal massacre of the world's first religion, God's chosen people as the Bible states, the religion of Christ? Did Christ advocate killing, especially his own people. If he were alive, he would have been the first to denounce it, the first to fight it, and the first to die for it. Just imagine: Six million Jews were killed in the concentration camps in a six year period. Of course there were many others, six million non-Jews were also slaughtered, but for this thesis, let's focus on the Jewish people, the people who were being blamed for the Depression. If six million Jews were killed in six years (1939-1945), that's approximately a million innocent people a year, which is 83,333 every month, 19,380 a week, 2,769 every day, 46 every hour, which comes to 2 men, women and children each minute: each minute of each hour of each day of each week of each month of each year for six years straight. Former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani in the June 22, 2003 New York Times wrote: "There is a worldwide surge in anti-Semitic violence. Last spring, physical attacks against Jews in France were occurring at a rate of 8-12 a day, with 14 arson attacks on synagogues in a two-week period. In Russia, signs reading 'Death to Jews' were placed along highways and rigged to explode if anyone sought to remove them." An opinion survey of adults in ten European countries found that 21% harbor strong anti-Semitic views. The ADL's Conference of Global Anti-Semitism in 2002 found that: * 58% of Germans believe the Jews still talk too much about the Holocaust, followed closely by Spain with 57%, Austria with 56%, Switzerland with 52%, France with 46%, Italy with 43% Belgium with 38%, the Netherlands with 35%, Denmark with 30% and the UK with 23%. * The percentage of those who believe Jews are more loyal to Israel than their home country: Spain 72%, Italy 58%, Germany 55%, Austria 54%, Belgium 50%, Switzerland 49%, The Netherlands 48%, Denmark 45%, France 42%, and the UK 34%. * The percentage of those who believe Jews have too much power in the business world: Spain 63%, Belgium 44%, France 42%, Austria 40%, Switzerland 37%, Germany 32%, UK 21%, The Netherlands 20%, and Denmark 13%. Is it any wonder why the Jewish people fear for their lives around the world? And why what is happening in the Middle East right now is so crucial to their survival as a people? Isn't it wonderful that our world is made up of such diversity, so many religious and ethic groups? How fascinating to meet someone new and learn more about their culture and heritage. We will never all be the same, no matter how much terrorism or genocide. Not every country will be a democracy, nor wants to be. We have no right to tell people, cultures that are thousands of years old, and know no other way to live, how they should now live. Terrorism is created by mankind when they refuse to accept other ways of life. We've rid Iraq of Saddam Hussein. Isn't it time to allow Iraq to rebuild its own country and government? It is our refusal to leave that is creating the insurgency. And for every insurgent we kill, hundreds more become resolute with rage and revenge. Worldwide terrorism en masse. Today, Americans are living with the frightening possibility, or probability, that terrorism is going to come to America any time now, as detailed in the novel THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY (www.thetwentyfirstcentury.com). Can that be? The answer is apparent since 47 of our 48 contiguous states have terrorist cells ready to launch an attack on us at any time. Americans live with security checks everywhere they go, while our government is desperately trying to find these cells. Most Muslims who enter America are law-abiding, family rearing, good people. But, there are those who come into our country undetected or under false pretenses. Of the top ten states with the largest Muslim populations, four are border states: California, Michigan, Texas, and New York. Homeland Security must do a better job in protecting our borders, be more diligent, if they expect to protect their citizens. We all hope our children, Christian, Jewish, and Muslim, will grow up a little less afraid of today and tomorrow, a little more optimistic with hope as their guide, a little bit safer because they have nothing to worry them, and, most importantly, a little bit happier, with beautiful smiles on their faces that were meant to be there. Let's not ruin their future. Let's learn from our mistakes. Bruce Schwartz is a lifelong political activist. THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY, his novel on politics today, discusses this subject as well as others that affect every American. It is on sale only on the Web at http://www.thetwentyfirstcentury.com and at http://www.amazon.com. All of the author's royalties is being donated to the Alzheimer's Association.

NASA and the Crisis Aboard MIR Some people say that we cannot put a colony on the Moon. Some say we do not have the technology to do this? Some people say it is too dangerous and it costs too much to sustain life that far away from the Earth. Some people think mankind cannot go beyond, should not push the limit and cannot succeed in such an endeavor. Well I believe some people are absolutely, positively and completely wrong. It is twice as hard to set up an orbiting space station and we have been doing that for decades. I would like to recommend a book to you. Our space program knows the risks, has experience to deal with the challenges and has the human spirit of exploration behind them. We can do it. Why not start reading about a little history of our rocky progress to our modern day marvels, start by reading this book: Advances in Nuclear Energy; Safe, Clean and Reliable The newest pebble reactors are easy to build and manage and have extremely high out put considering their small size, perfect for islands set down wind from populations. Unfortunately the Three-mile Island and Chernople incident make populations feel uncomfortable with Nuclear. Therefore the increased regulations have made the cost of construction almost not worth it. The ROI of a nuclear power plant could take as long 150 years. This is so unfortunate seeing how great Nuclear power is and how clean it can be when handled correctly. For this reason in the past three decades no new permits have been granted and we continue to have a large percentage of our power coming from fossil fuels which is a problem for air quality and long term it has many issues such as acid rain. Do Not Tell The Truth Do you really want to get ahead in your life? Do you want to grow a business really large? Do you want to be powerful? Well then do what works. For instance the United States Government is big and powerful. They control every aspect of your life and your business if you own one. They never tell the truth about much of anything. An example would be the Justice Department and their bunk lawsuits. Much of the time they make stuff up, doctor the truth and file it in court. Why do they do this, it seems to be unethical? Well, because it works. You see the Justice Department has had lots of practice suing law abiding Americans and they have failed a lot and study what works. Like the Donald Trump show they have learned to slander brand names and people in the court of public opinion and trump their almighty ethics. Same as the kids as they lie, cheat and smear their fellow man on the Donald Trump "You're Fired" series. The Government has learned this tactic to win cases. PTO - Patent and Trademark Office needs complete overhaul Recently in Maine, I talked with a gentleman and we discussed at a coffee shop the issues concerning the Patent and Trademark Offices and the slow processing problems with registration of everything from a simple patent or concept patent to a Registered Trademark or Service Mark. Also this past week had an email conversation with a gentleman from NC in a small business regarding weak trademark and service mark case law in several states and at the Federal Level and how that affected him and the owner of a mark in Ohio. Also discussed the issues with an Aussie who now lives in BC Canada with regards to a cross border US Competitor using a name he intends to use and has already used in Canadian Commerce. First use laws and case laws are different that in Canada and the US. And certainly no trademark is worth a dollar in China. Some would disagree if you have the right attorney there in that country. I had mentioned these types of issues in a letter to the FTC and discussed the problems with patent law and not knowing, the patent books, which explain all this are over 400 plus pages now and when you are done reading them you may or may not know enough to get the job done. Eminent Domain Suggested as Cost Saving Measure in DC Washington DC council member David Catania actually suggested that the council should consider claiming eminent domain of certain widely prescribed pharmaceutical formulas in order to help reign in rising drug costs for the city. Catania suggests that the patents should be acquired by the government through the mayor's declaration of a public health emergency and then generic manufacturers would be contacted to produce the drugs for cheaper than they are commercially available. How Can We Elect Good Leaders? Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Men desire power. Give power to those men who have the greatest apparent altruism by nature, experience and by example. Give these beings the ability to attain those innate needs, while simultaneously helping the whole. Mankind will be fulfilled and work itself to the common good with forward progress. Other men will follow who are similar and rise up. Give those with the greatest testosterone and the killer genes something to do to use those innate needs fulfillment; things like sports, business, war, etc. North Korea and Diplomatic Solutions; Random Thoughts Part I You know now that North Korea is backing down on their nuclear ambitions we seem to have a problem with the 8 nuclear weapons already created that no one wishes to address. In studying the reports and having thoughts on this matter; it seems we might still end up in a war over these issues. Should we use warfare to serve our political will and if we try we should do so in a cost conscious manner. Here are some thoughts on winning a military victory against North Korea to serve our political forthwith. First it would appear we have many allies in the region, including some from not so far away. Pakistan a potential partner in the over taking of the government is just iching to flex it's perceived military might and make friends with us after we got upset at the non capture of Osama Bin Laden and kind of asked about why he might have hidden briefly in Pakistan. One CIA man has potentially targeted Pakistan as aiding and giving comfort to our enemy there? But Pakistan also wants some F-16s and of course we want them to buy such aircraft from us. Meanwhile the Israelis see China as a good market to sell the latest warfare technologies? But who might China be looking at as it builds up its forces, it has no enemies that large? Or does it; as in the United States? The Power of Media: Russian Perspective Journalism, as it is often said, is the 'fourth branch of power', along with legislative, executive and judiciary, not any less mighty than those three, even if not legally endorsed in the Russian constitution. It is the power of symbolism, and it cannot be escaped, but can only "used" to bring truth, or "abused" to bring propaganda. The French sociologist Pierre Bourdier claims, that it is the opportunity to create reality with the help of words: we are approaching the time, when the social universe is described and prescribed by mass media. One cannot but agree with this view. Did 9-11 Change Everything for the Business Community For the business community 9-11 changed everything. In our company, we are in the cleaning business and after 9-11 we saw 62.6% decrease in weekend call ins for washing services at office buildings and a nearly same number of residential call ins. We believe this is partly due to adverse weather but as last years information shows it cannot be more than 20%. Last year that period was down 11.45% and then in the first 3 quarters of 2001 it picked up. We believe because all the phone companies with cellular started offering free weekend minutes so people decided to call us since we are probably on their speed dials for their cell phones. That increase was 4.1 %. Weather last year during this period was light, the previous year lighter and the year before that hectic. This year's winter is a medium plus year for rain and snow days. Water at the Roots of Twenty First Centurys Conflicts According to a postulate made by Ignacio Ramonet ecological resources are deemed to constitute the main cause of this new century. Water as a source of scourge concerns: oceans and seas on the one hand (that's over 71 of the globe surface) and access to potable water (underground reserve and rivers) on the other hand. Over the years, water has gradually become a stake at many levels Why Do US Media Ignore Secret UK Government Memo On A Mega Iraq War Conspiracy? The blogosphere has been jumping around the story like crazy but it seems the mainstream media are doing their best to ignore it. Yet it's been branded the most extensive case of governing-level conspiracy plotting in ages. CNN spent very limited time on it and that's also a pretty accurate indicator of the attention most other media outlets have devoted to it so far. Even though some 88 members of Congress openly inquired about it and a few other US opionion leaders spoke out against it. But that was it more or less. What was? A recently leaked internal UK government memo dated July 2002, that was so secret extra copies could not be made, not even for internal use. Snowbirds and American Migration and Mobile Populations We have seen an increase in Snowbirds from Northern States into Southern States. It is truly phenomenal the difference between now and a few years ago. I attribute this to the mobile nature of our society, me included and the use of modern technology, such as cell phones, GPS devices, and Internet availability in many places to hook up to and now for the first time we are seeing a proliferation of services in major markets such as LA, Seattle, San Francisco, Silicon Valley and Phoenix of Ricochet, Inc. the first main system which came on the scene. Soon as in a few months we will be seeing Internet Direct the GM Hughes system similar to the Direct TV idea for motor homes that you can point at the satellite anytime, anywhere providing clear skies and no obstructions, such as buildings, mountains, bridges or trees. These systems will be rolled out for use in the Trucking Industry and over the road independent drivers and also to RV whizzes. High Speed Trains and The Future of Transportation Where are all the high-speed trains we were promised? Where is a cohesive transportation strategy? With the current price of fuel we need better and efficient systems to move people; these gasoline prices are for the birds or Camels? Council of Six The head of the Club of Rome has said that the major issue that prevents World Peace is the matter of terminology or differences in what people mean across different cultures. I have no illusions about having devised a fool proof proposal here - but it would be nice if the dialogue existed and not until it does exist will there be much hope for real change. All There is, is dust in the wind; Dust Particulate Traveling The Globe Dust from Deserts and Particulate Control Eurovision Song Contest - Kiss My Butt Neighbours Tonight I resigned myself to the fact that this is the last Eurovision Song Contest I shall ever watch. In fairness the only reason I did watch it was due to media reports mentioning that steps had been taken to try and mitigate the blatant vote rigging that takes place each time the contest is aired. I should have known better. Experts? ACCREDITATION: - Scholastic regimentation from the post WWII period has accelerated to the point that Canada won't let an Olympic figure skating medalist teach or coach young Canadians the errors and damages of the present system. She could earn more in the U. S. or other places but she is willing to do this for free if they would let her. How would Einstein or Bucky Fuller become professors in today's structured adherence to accepted models of learning? Canada is held up as a fine example by the U.N. committees which evaluate governments throughout this world. Last week the support staff went on strike in our schools of Toronto. Anti Government, Pro Democracy Many Americans feel betrayed by their government, our government. I recently met a gentleman at a coffee shop who said he was; Anti-Government and Pro-Democracy. He went into a complete tirade of all the things that are wrong with the government; the typical nightly news events. You know; social security, illegal aliens, over regulation, homosexual marriage, corporate corruption, SPAM, Identity Theft, black-outs, fuel prices; on and on and on. My gosh, I was beginning to actually feel bad that I am an American. I mean all the stuff he mentioned did have a little validity to it. Even though he blew each issue out of proportion completely. I said to him that I am Anti-Hypocrisy and Pro-government. He asked what is the difference? Dole, Kemp, Trusting People Many in the peanut gallery of society are so quick to attack the republican party, out of duty to their side of the sound and fury of human endeavor, however if you are really going to attack people without debating their concepts then in fact you are no better than those you condemn. I recommend to all that you look at both sides and see how similar we really all are. I recommend you go buy the Audio Tape about the Dole-Kemp Plan and play it in your car. If you still wish to blast them personally or the Republican party then at least you will have a better understanding of what you are talking about without making a fool of yourself. Here the name of the audio tape and yes it is also available in CD, I knew you would ask: Elliot Spitzer, are the Rats Leaving the Ship Are the junior attorneys in the Attorney General's office leaving the ship yet? Are the New York State Attorney General Office's up and coming prosecutors and lawyers jumping ship as to not be caught in the future demise of Elliot Spitzer fall from reputation? We will see as Elliot Spitzer starts to lose all his cases that the attorneys in his office wish to distance themselves from the New York Attorney General's office. |
