NASA and the Crisis Aboard MIR
Some people say that we cannot put a colony on the Moon. Some say we do not have the technology to do this? Some people say it is too dangerous and it costs too much to sustain life that far away from the Earth. Some people think mankind cannot go beyond, should not push the limit and cannot succeed in such an endeavor. Well I believe some people are absolutely, positively and completely wrong. It is twice as hard to set up an orbiting space station and we have been doing that for decades. I would like to recommend a book to you. Our space program knows the risks, has experience to deal with the challenges and has the human spirit of exploration behind them. We can do it. Why not start reading about a little history of our rocky progress to our modern day marvels, start by reading this book: "Dragonfly-NASA and the Crisis Aboard MIR", By Bryan Burrough. Great book of Old Technology meeting the ISO 9000 world of TQM. Where East meets West in Space. Very interesting the perception and reality of the Russian's Technology, and fly by the seat of your pants space missions which inevitably caused the old junk station to fall from the sky, but we did learn a lot that is now an integral part of the International Space Station. They did it on a budget for sure and the results nearly killed many Americans. The international relations with the Russians and the influx of NASA funds to the space station also eased tensions after the end of the cold war. Clinton could be thanked for the meeting of the minds. NASA learned a little and we got a rude awakening into the reality of Communism in a real life situation, where seconds count and life hangs in the balance within the vacuum we think of as the final frontier. You will enjoy the book and shake your head. Interesting book, one you should read if you are serious about understanding future space stations, colonies and enclosed life. Another good book to read which takes one step further is "Gravity". I leave you with your assignment to learn more and challenge you to think ahead and keep your head out of your rear like; Some People. Think about it. A Need to Review Abortion Laws In Belgium INTRODUCTION French NON to Europe Might be Engrained in Their History Many of the problems that the members of the European Union are expressing with their constitution are in matter of fact problems with they perceive to be the 'one size fits all' idea of policies. The French are loudest in expressing their objections and looking at the history of the evolution of the nation state, perhaps they have a point. It took millennia for the idea of the Nation State to evolve into any recognizable shape. So to expect a huge bloc of countries to continue to integrate without noticeable hiccups would be naive. Clearing Land Mine Fields from the Air You know we have sent many, many army tanks with protruded devices used for minesweeping to the Middle East from the Logistics Base in our country. They are assigned to removing the left over land mines of past wars. Each year hundreds of thousands lose their lives and limbs to these past war buried relics. The army tanks which remove these devices have not really been redesigned since the second WW, hardly any real improvements in their designs. But it has occurred to me that you can sweep these mines from the air if you want. Here is how it might be done; first, a powerful helicopter drags flat plates of steel along the ground with skids, in front of that is heavy chains dragging approximately 20 yards connected to each other like the kind your used to level fields and scrap away dirt clods and then the chains of smaller size actually in the air attached to cables attached to the helicopter about 50ft AGL. Government Regulation Helps People Well the title is absolute Bull Crap, but this article is correct. Government regulation kills people. It destroys free enterprise. It causes people to have to work harder and get less. It inhibits competition and therefore raises prices. It prevents consumer choice. It stifles innovation. It causes a minutia piling effect and requires more justification of further laws to define the ones already written. Government regulations are like a drug once they take the first puff or shoot up, it is all over. Super Voting Ink and Vaccines In the future when we decide to help nations vote and enter their new freedom of democracy at a time when we have significant resistance in the form of a guerilla contingency or insurgency we should specially modify the ink die to prove a vote was cast to identify the good citizens. Immigration: Ten Points to Ponder 1. Why is it that no one seems to notice, much less ever mention, that the World Bank and the IMF have implemented economic measures that have left large sections of their populations unemployed and destitute? (The illegals are not doing this, you see, but this population is easier to attack and is more defenseless than the World Bank and the IMF.) Environmental Economics, Stream of Thought Entrepreneurs can clean up the environment if we would let them. Look at Fred Smith's Brilliant plan to challenge American Ingenuity paid off. He said to the industry, build me a delivery van that uses 50% of the fuel as our current units and emits 90% pollution and he will by 19,000 of them. Well guess what, it worked. Thus proving that Free Enterprise can solve the problems of the human race five times faster than any government intervention or regulation. How Small Business Benefits From Supporting Labor Unions For a short time I worked as a union officer for the office workers' union at Walt Disney studios. It was a very educational experience and one thing I learned is that people have a strange attitude about the relationship between unions and business management. All too many business managers think of the union as their enemy, and unfortunately too many union members think the same thing about management. The sad part of it is, both sides are working toward the same goals. Employees need to be working for a successful and prosperous company and the company needs to be a place where employees can be happy and productive. Enlightenment Experiments Pierre Dupont de Nemours: The Power of Media: Russian Perspective Journalism, as it is often said, is the 'fourth branch of power', along with legislative, executive and judiciary, not any less mighty than those three, even if not legally endorsed in the Russian constitution. It is the power of symbolism, and it cannot be escaped, but can only "used" to bring truth, or "abused" to bring propaganda. The French sociologist Pierre Bourdier claims, that it is the opportunity to create reality with the help of words: we are approaching the time, when the social universe is described and prescribed by mass media. One cannot but agree with this view. Ifs and VATs of Taxation in Macedonia - Should VAT be Applied in Macedonia? To be justified, taxes should satisfy a few conditions: Whats Right About Nebraska: How the Democrats Lost the Heart of American Populism (Note: This article was written slightly before the 2004 election; however, its thesis on how the Dems. lost the heartland--and why they continue to fumble the ball--bespeaks of a sea change that continues to sweep the American political landscape. Yet, Dean, et al, run down to the beach and think that last tsunami was it--not knowing they come in successive intervals, are stronger than the last one, and are not designed for your viewing pleasure!) Paper Industry The paper industry in the US is hurting. Due to supply and demand prices are way up. If you look at the changes, due to the growth in housing and price of wood and increased government regulations with Sarbaines Oxley Act you can see why we need more and more paper. Dafur Emergency: A Challenge To Civilisation With pain rocking through my whole body today, I cast a bitter glance back at what I called, the 'tragedy of Dafur' and decided to settle accounts with my fellow Africans on this matter. The Cost of the COLD WAR Many people who are expert in the issue of the Oswald's rifle are able to clearly demonstrate that the best marksman in the world could not have done what that one rifle was supposed to have done. I suppose once the story was manufactured they had to stick with it before they knew about the ricochet and other evidence. On forums and in debates with serious people who have studied all facets of the case I have never had anyone stand behind the fact that this one bullet ended up in such a pristine condition. They say things like ? 'That was obviously a planted piece of evidence.' I then say things such as this. Will Gay Marriage Slow Down AIDS Crisis It is widely known in the Homosexual Male Populations that the promiscuity is astronomically high. The AIDS crisis has lost a little momentum in the United States in heterosexual populations in recent years due to awareness. We are not out of the woods by any means but we have slowed the crisis and exponential growth of the disease in the states. In places like Africa, India and China there is a much different story. Medicade Scam; Worse than You Think You are not going to believe what is going on in North Western Michigan; Check this scam out, typical health care fraud. There is a $3000 allowance per month if your child is on medicade because the parent is poor. Now some of these people have six kids. So this mental health hospital; all these kids who have health care degrees scour the area to find these kids from poor people and sign them up at the hospital. The hospital is huge. No wonder all these kids who are perfectly healthy are going to the hospital to get checks up. They use up all $3,000 per month for each kid. HMOs want body count, they want to get paid per month per body, so they want to get the people in, and get them out and bill for $3,000.00 Belly Full of the Clintons [Political View] As I read the papers and watch the news day after day after day, and listen to the debates on what we Americans should do with Iran and North Korea, as if we were the only ones involved, yet as always the world will put their two cents in, and to be quite honest, that is all financially they will give, but for advise, like my neighbors, they will give a tone of it away free. Anyhow, I should get to my clout in my throat. As I read the papers and watch the news day after day, as I was saying before, I can't be the only one that feels this way, yet sometimes I think I am, because I have not read much about what I'm going to say, in the floating media; be it reluctance on everyone else's behalf, or perhaps I'm just wrong. But when I check the records, it indicates I'm not. Oh well, possibly people are just full of crap and don't like the truth. Here is a bag full. Because of President Clinton, and let me say it again to get it right, Big Bill, Wild Bill, our ex-president Bill Clinton, they are all the same to me, because of this goofball, because of this wise guy, we have two towers down in New York City today (yes I'm talking about 9/11). It was not because of the FBI; nor the CIA; or President George W. Bush. No, no, no, it is because of Buffalo Bill Clinton; and his goofball wife. Top 30 Politics Quotations Army Recruiting Dilemma Discussed Currently the US Army is having trouble recruiting. These problems stem from the distrust of parents who lived thru the Vietnam War, as they remember the number of soldiers killed and would prefer their offspring are not needlessly sacrificed. Also indeed some of the issues come from the Democratic Side or Ultra Liberal side who say that the current administration is made up of Oil Folks and that this war is fake. Without getting into that heated debate, of which there is more than enough ammo for either side of the issue, there are more reasons. Another reason is the Army's "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy on gays in the military. The Army due to these policies has been banned from many college campuses and are no longer welcomed there to recruit. If the Army were to change its gay policy, chances are it would not get the support of recruits of heterosexual mid-western Christian Religious God fearing recruits. After all if you are right wing conservative Christian the last place you would want to send your heterosexual kids to is an Army filled with gays. |
