Package Your Products for Thunder Thigh Women - Big Butts Too
Wake up women (and you men too). I think we are seeing light at the end of the tunnel. Madison Avenue is getting real about advertising campaigns for women. Following the unparalleled success of Dove line of personal-care products sold by Unilever, the company introduced what it calls a "campaign for real beauty." I predict others will follow suit. This week Nike unveiled a campaign using women with big butts and thunder thighs -- no kidding! Why? It is because that image represents the majority on the US female populace. (FYI, the average size woman is a size 14-16, not a 0.) Remember when I told you that women aren't influenced by celebrity endorsements on the product package. Well, they are influenced by real women who they can relate to. They are not impressed by the thin, waif-like creatures that have been purported to represent the average female consumer. Nor are they in awe of the horse like runway models seen in TV commercials clunking down the stage. Two drivers impacting this change include the fact that women are the primary purchasers of products and that women over 50 are finally being recognized as a significant purchasing demographic. How well do you understand the needs and wants of these two target groups? Do you want to sell more products and connect with consumers though your product packaging? We know what these buyers want in packaging. Our special report: Is your Packaging Female-Friendly? can be in you hands in 24 hours. Writing To Overpower Your Competition "We don't have any competition. We're a truly a one-of-a-kind company." I've heard that line from clients for years. I wish it were true, but it's simply not. In fact, it wouldn't matter if you held a monopoly on your particular product or service; you'd still have competition. How? Because your competition doesn't come from a singular source. Breaking The Voice Mail Barrier Even if you never place a cold call, you still have to reach people by phone. That customer who was so interested last month never called you back, and now you must call her. You call once, twice, three times, but you can't get her in person. How can you manage to close a sale if all you ever get is voice mail? Don?t Put All Of Your Eggs Into One Basket I vaguely remember a particular story from my childhood. It had something to do with transporting eggs to market. The main character, a little girl who thought she knew more than she really did, put all of the day's eggs into one basket, and when she tripped and fell on the way into town to sell the eggs, all of the eggs broke. It seems that her grandmother (the voice of experience and wisdom) tried to tell her not to do that, but she wouldn't listen. If she had divided them up into several means of transportation some would have been lost, but not all of them. It was a difficult lesson to learn. There Are Benefits... You enjoy what you do. In fact, you love your product and want to tell everyone about it. Well, I hate to tell you this, but no one cares! Think about the last major purchase you made?maybe a car ?did you buy it because you met a car salesman who told you how much he loved his work or did you buy it because you would spend less on fuel and maintenance and be able to spend more on eating out, make up or your favourite hobbies. Maybe it's as simple as wanting to feel and look successful. Rather than participate in the herd mentality you see and hear in advertising everyday, do something different. Speak to the motivation of your prospective customers. Connect with them. A review of the five levels of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs is a good place to start. 1. The base of the pyramid is made up of those who are just coping with life and want basic physiological needs fulfillment: food, shelter, and clothing. 2. One level up are those who have a need to feel safe and secure. Stability, security of home and family and consistency in life are markers of this level. None of the higher needs can be addressed before these needs are met. Fears and anxieties develop here. 3. Love and belonging are next. Humans have a need to relate through groups, work, family....... This is the time that all those relationship books are purchased. 4. Esteem is not only self esteem from knowing what we know and being able to do what we do, it's also the attention and recognition of others. This is where we buy a fancy car or a mansion on the hill. 5. The need to grow and self-actualize. This is to enable the maximizing of potential, knowledge, peace, self-fulfillment, and connection with God. Only approximately 2% of the world's population has achieved this level of comfort and acceptance of self.
