Coaching is Asking the Right Questions
Have you ever known anyone who asked themselves "Why me?" over and over every time something happened they didn't like? Or how about, "What did I do to deserve this?" And my favorite, "Whose fault was that?" Perhaps, these questions have popped into your head once or twice before. When we ask ourselves questions, our brain hunts for the answer. Having your brain search for the answers to bad questions gives you bad answers. You'll get answers like "I'm just unlucky", or "It's unfair" or "It's my boss's fault". These kinds of questions keep us in the past and keep the focus on things we can't change. So how do we move forward? What if you asked questions like; What can I learn from this? Most difficulties provide something we can learn about ourselves, about life, and about what to do next time. Would you prefer to blame yourself or others, or look for the insight? In what way is the current situation absolutely perfect? Even if you think it is a total mess, see if you can find something that is already good or something to be grateful for. Gratitudes are a powerful tool you can use to turn many uncomfortable situations around. How could I turn this around immediately, and enjoy the process? This is where you can set an intention and ask yourself what you are committed to. What do you want to do about this problem or situation? And how can you make it fun? What is the value of my current attitude? Is your attitude making things easier or harder for you? Are you looking for the opportunity or complaining? How has that attitude been working for you? What a difference the right questions make! This week listen to the questions you are asking yourself. Are they moving you forward or keeping you stuck? Replace your unproductive questions with the ones that support you. And if you need further help, call a coach! As a result, many ADDers end up sacrificing their own self-care in order to scratch off items on their to-do lists. Those who skimp on self-care, however, will find themselves slowed down in the end. It's nearly impossible to be an effective parent, spouse, friend, or worker when you are not operating at your best. And you can't be at your best when you are not taking care of yourself! What I Would Include In A Coaching Book A coach is an essential figure in providing direction and leadership to his/her team. In sports, coaches are sometimes evaluated on the number of wins they can produce. In a business setting, coaches are evaluated on how efficient they are in providing a healthy work environment for employees. How to Make $100,000 Dollars as a Personal Trainer ? Part A for Attitude! My name is Greg Ryan. For the last twenty years I have counseled thousands of personal trainers, fitness directors and gym owners on how be successful in the health and fitness industry. Its Story Time! - Find the Power Within, or The Truth About Dogs I heard a story recently, and wanted to share it with you. It goes something like this: The Art of Change We don't change. I imagine such a statement could find a lot of opinionated opposition if it implied a lack of growth, whether that be on a knowledgeable level, a logical or spiritual one, but in this case we refer to ourselves and who we are in relation to who we were when we decided to grace this world with our presence. 5 Keys to Powerful Communication As a coach that specializes in marriage, couples and family coaching, it is critical to develop strong and clear keys for communication. How many times have you been faced with a difficult feeling or occurrence that you are reluctant to discuss with your partner? You probably thought, "If I just don't say anything, I can get past it"? Its Game Time! Four Powerful Lessons in the Game of Life I turned 29 last week, and if statistics are right and I die on or around my 78th birthday, I am almost 40% done. In a numbers game, that is pretty close to half way. This had me thinking about when I played basketball in high school and college. I thought most about the half time events in the locker room. Eureka! I?ve Found It! OK, so it wasn't quite that big of a deal. But I did find the "T" that mysteriously escaped from the word "not" in one of my articles a few months ago. Yep, I found it all right. Right at the end of what was intended to be the word "though". Of course, that misplacement resulted in a stupid sentence completely void of logic ? unless by chance you missed the "t" and read the sentence the way I intended instead of the way I wrote it. The Adventure Attitude Of the 60,000 people who lived to be over 100 in the United States in 2002, the single most important characteristic they had in common was their ability to be positive in the face of change. They were able to look at things objectively, put them in perspective and move on. They didn't try to control the uncontrollable. Surviving, thriving and living a long happy healthy life may just depend on your ability to develop the Adventure Attitude. Who Do You Talk To? Many of you reading this will be running businesses, or parts of, whether they are your own or not. This means that you have many things to deal with on a day to day basis plus trying to do the long-term thinking needed to lead and run the business. Among the dilemmas you face are; making time to tune out and relax, time think about the business, and finding time talk to about the issues and frustrations. Do You Want to Impress Others? Then Don?t Talk ?Listen Recently my friend Michelle was concerned about a professional conference she was planning to attend with her husband, a veterinarian. She has no background in veterinary science, so she did not think she would be able to effectively communicate with the people at the conference. I asked her why she thought she had to use technical jargon when she spoke to the other conference attendees. She responded that she wanted them to think well of her. Michelle is a warm, caring individual who is genuinely interested in others. I assured her that she could effectively relate to the people she met by asking them questions about themselves and their businesses instead of trying to impress them with her knowledge of veterinary science.
