Have You Neglected This Righteous Cause Of God?
As believers, we have a responsibility to care forthose who have been left without a bread winner, whichbegins with the responsibility of caring for our ownfamily and relatives who may be in distress. 1 Timothy 5:8 But if any provide not for his own, andspecially for those of his own house, he hath deniedthe faith, and is worse than an infidel. An infidel is a person who does not even acknowledgeGod. So what does that say about someone who doesn'ttake care of his own family in need? Helping the poor and needy is the only Christ likeresponse there is in dealing with widows and orphansand people that are tragically left without a breadwinner. James 1:27 "Pure and undefiled religion before God andthe father is this; to visit orphans and widows intheir trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from theworld". God is deeply concerned that the poor and needyreceive justice and deliverance. This should be highon the agenda for anyone seeking to honor God andreceive His divine blessings. Psalms 41:1 "Blessed is he who considers the poor, TheLord will deliver him in time of trouble. The Lordwill preserve him and keep him alive, and he will beblessed on the earth; You will not deliver him to thewill of his enemies. The Lord will strengthen him onhis bed of illness; You will sustain him on hissickbed". The above scripture is one of more than twenty fivetimes in which psalms mention "the poor" , usuallyeither in terms of what the wicked are doing to themor what God is doing for them. So to be on the side of God is to take up the cause ofthe poor and oppressed. Helping the poor has to do with one's responsibilitiestoward upholding the weak and disadvantageed. Wherever scripture raises this issue, it challenges usto share at least some of our material wealth withpeople in desperate need. Exodus 22:25-27 "If you lend money to any of My peoplewho are poor among you, you shall not be like a moneylender to him; you shall not charge him interest". Whatever charity we show to the poor will be repaid, not necessarily by the poor, but by the Lord becausethe Lord assumes the debt. God is aware of what we do and because of that wenever really "waste" our charity, even if the personwho receives it turns out to be deceptive, God stillmakes it right. The poor person will have to answerfor how he uses the resources God brings into hislife. Likewise, we must answer for how we have used theresources God brings our way, and in most cases Godwants us to use at least part of those resources toassist the poor. Those that honor God show mercy to the weak anddisadvantaged, Yet In contrast those that depart fromGodly ways abuse and manipulate the poor. So part of our responsibility as Christians involvesseeing that the poor benefit from truth and justice,by demonstrating that commitment at our jobs andcommunities. Proverbs 11:24-25 "There is one who scatters, yetincreases more; and there is one who withholds morethan is right, but it leads to poverty. The generoussoul will be made rich, and he who waters will also bewatered himself". God also condemns favoritism toward the rich anddiscrimination towards the poor. This includestreating rich people better than poor people based ontheir socioeconomic status. Exodus 22:22-24 You shall not afflict any widow orfatherless child. If you afflict them in any way, andthey cry out to me, I will surely hear their cry; andMy wrath will become hot, and I will kill you with thesword; your wives shall be widows, and your childrenfatherless. So in conclusion to take up this righteous cause ofGod you must provide for the needs of your family. (1Tim. 5:8). Visit orphans and widows in their trouble.(Jam. 1:27). Don't be like a money lender to the poor(Ex. 22:25-27), and not afflict any widow orfatherless child. (Ex. 22:22-24). Gods Breathed For it is written in the book of 2Timothy 3:16 it says All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. It goes on to say in chapter 4:1 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage-with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. Living Proof: We are Living in the Days of Noah A familiar phrase used in Bible prophecy is the term "Days of Noah." Jesus warned, "For as in the days of Noah before the flood, they were eating and drinking, men marrying and women being given in marriage, until the very day Noah entered the ark. And they did not know or understand until the flood came and swept them all away-so will be the coming of the Son of Man (Matthew 24: 38-39.)" This illustration is used to show mankind what signs they must look for upon Christ return. The book of Genesis records that before flooding the Earth, the Lord saw that the wickedness of men was great, and that every intent of the thoughts of men's heart was continually evil. This description can easily be applied to the current times we are living in. From all corners of the Earth, various societies can hear the bloodthirsty hearts of the terrorist beating to the same deadly drum. Are there more clues that allude to the fact that we are truly indeed living in the Days of Noah? Could there have been more going on besides the wickedness the Lord witnessed? Showers of Wisdom ( Part 3 of 3 ) Everything one does in his life, irrespective of whether he remembers or not, is recorded in one's soul just like a memory bank of a computer. A time when we were prosperous and growing? 123 ABC Numbers in the Bible Simply Amazing Underneath the Hebrew and Chaldee of the Old Testament and the Greek of the New Testament there is hidden an extraordinary disposition of numbers which cannot be explained away by human intelligence. In order to understand this we must remember that none of these languages had symbols for numbers such as we have (1,2,3,4, etc). Instead of numeric symbols they made use of the letters of their alphabet so that a = 1, b =2 etc. One can easily see then that a word could be looked at in two ways, either as a word or as a series of numbers which could be added up to a total. For instance, the Greek word for "word" is "logos". If looked at from a numerical standpoint its value would be l =30, o ? 70, g = 3, o = 70, s = 200; total 373. The numerical value of "logos" is therefore 373. Church Retreat and Church Retreats Church retreats are an excellent way to involve the church in an important part of church involvement. Saved From Religion "Religion is the fashionable substitute for belief." - Oscar Wilde Jesus as the Rose of Sharon The words "rose of Sharon" comes out of the Old Testament in the Song of Solomon. The verse reads: "I am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valleys." (Solomon 2:1) No Ishmaels Please I want to say a word about faith. Recent events in my own life have driven home just how easy it is to loose sight of what we say we believe. Just like Abraham of old, we often try to bring about results through our own efforts. For those of you not familiar with narrative found in the book of Genesis, let me summarize. Abraham had been given the promise by God of having a son in his old age. God, in fact made a covenant with Abraham, sealing the promise in the blood of sacrificial animals. Typically this looks forward, for those of us who are New Testament believers, to the blood of Christ through which we are made partakers of God's eternal covenant. But, back to Abraham. Certainly after such a dynamic demonstration (Genesis 15) of God's covenant promise, we would think that Abraham would have not doubt that God would fulfill his part of the agreement. But, instead of waiting patiently on God as he should have done, he listened to his wife, Sarah, and tried to help God out, by having a son with his handmaiden (as was the custom of the day), since his Sarah was barren. He did have a son with his handmaiden, but that was a cause of much sorrow to him, and is the cause of much conflict even today. For, you see, this son, Ishmael, is the father of Arab nations. Oh, God was still with Ishmael and provided water to keep him alive after Sarah had thown out the handmaden and her son. But Ishmael was not God's first choice for Abraham. Thus, later, God did fulfill his promise and give Abraham a son through his wife, Sarah. That son, Isaac, is the father of the Jewish people. We are all aware of the Arab-Israeli conflict which continues till today. Yet, God was gracious, and Abraham is remembered today as the Father of the faithful, and in the hall of faith, Hebrews 11, his faith is mentioned but not his lack of it in that one moment of weakness. (Thus, I don't feel that I should share the particulars of my recent Ishmael experience with you, as I know God has put it in the sea of forgetfulness.) Often we may be tempted to do what Abraham did and take matters into our own hands, instead of trusting God explicitly. But, this can only result in the production of an Ishmael, which, although God may still bless, will mean trouble for us and cause us to deviate for a time from our primary God-given goals and purpose. However, when that happens, we may be assured of God's grace in getting us back on track. May God ever keep us from producing Ishmaels. But if we do, may we run to Him for His mercy and grace and know that He is still in controll and we will not be remembered by him for our Ishmaels, but for our Isaacs--the fruit of our faith. If you feel you have no faith, perhaps you this will be a first step for you. If you feel you need more faith or need to use your faith more, perhaps this can also be a starting point for you in that direction. Gnashing teeth struggled to bite the outstretched wrist. Public Spectacle Do you sometimes wonder how did Jesus make a Public Spectacle of Satan? Well let's see what the Bible says. Look at Colossians 2:13 it says. When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. Where is God? Where is God? This is the question most often heard when things are not going right in our lives or we hear of senseless fatalities or extreme injustices. But I pose this question today because I cannot find Him in ways that I could when I was growing up. Peaceful Religions? If you say that Christianity is a peaceful religion according to scripture then it can be said that Islam, according to scripture is peaceful. In reality, both the Koran and the Bible present a dichotomy, promoting peace and violence. They both contain quotes that are peaceful and some not so peaceful quotes. Do You Have Disciples?
