US Government Sore Losers in Not So Neighborly Dispute
I'm getting a little tired of being lectured by that "pin-headed, pencil-necked" whiner David Wilkins, about what Canada should do and not do with respect to the failed softwood lumber talks. Wilkins, the US Ambassador to Canada, said today that Canadian politicians should stop their ''emotional tirades'' and order the country's trade representatives back to the bargaining table to reach a final settlement. Wilkins went on to say ''Canada needs to come back to the table. We need to close the door, roll up our sleeves and negotiate as need be, with good faith, and bring finality to it,'' That's all well and good Mr. Wilkins, but it is the US that has shown complete disregard for several World Trade Organization rulings (and others) in Canada's favour over the years. In my opinion, the latest ruling has brought "finality" to the issue, but the big bully to the south continues to act in "bad faith" by charging illegal tariffs on Canadian exports of lumber to the US. Of course the US isn't used to the Canadian government taking a hard line position on anything short of an ill-conceived war. Yup, Uncle Sam is not used to losing, a fact that was all too evident after the US mens hockey team lost at the 1998 Nagano Olympics. (ouch!!) With all due respect Mr. Wilkins, you should suck it up and admit your softwood lumber policy is misguided, eliminate and repay the tariffs and make peace with your neighbors to the north. How Futuristic Is Anarchy As A Way To Organize The State (I) When organising a country or a group of people in need of structuring, people tend to automatically sidestep ideologies that do not take authority imposed from above for granted. Anarchists and other proponents of alternative rule almost by definition are seen as destructive elements in a society. Yet old time and modern thinkers on the subject might have some viable and decent ideas for future state organisation. The Will To Fight for Islam The more I study the dynamics of WWII the more I am convinced that we won the war because of our entrepreneurs and their output; manufacturing capability. With most other things being equaled; technology, techniques of war strategy, etc.; only two things won us the war. The Will to Win, and the never before achieved industrial output. I can safely say in the car wash industry no one has more will than us and no one has the ramp up capability that could supercede us. Does this mean the US will for ever completely dominate the industry? No, nothing is set in stone and there are many possible futures and outcomes. However, with all things being equal and our teams ability to adapt and roll with the punches I believe we have the best odds of victory. Each time we bring more fervor, more resolve and more will to the table we just that much closer to being the top dog. Size does matter, but size alone does not proclaim advanced victory. I think the movie Rocky said it best. He was in it heart, body and soul to win it. Everyone could identify with that movie and wanted Rocky to win, but no one more than Rocky himself. Vince Lombarde also talks of this human phenomena. As much as I wanted the US to win the Olympic Hockey game, I could not forsake Canada's team. They clearly went for it and played like true champions. They deserved to win and win they did. Water Conservation, Retention and Better Policies As the populations expand in Colorado outside of Denver, Las Vegas, North County San Diego, Atlanta, Phoenix, Tucson, San Bernardino, Riverside, Albuquerque, etc; The West will need to look to transferring the load of cities like Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Diego, and San Bernardino to getting water from the ocean through Desalination Plants. At one point during the last drought states had to make a choice between fighting fires or saving the water for drinking. This could have been a serious issue in CO, MT, NM, NV and AZ. Time for a New Canadian Party It is time for a change. A change in philosophy, a change in the 3 party system. A change in politicians not being held accountable for promises they had no intention of delivering. It is time for a new political party to emerge from the sham that is the Canadian so-called democratic system. Here are some of the changes I propose a new party based on the following positions: From Democracy to Omniocracy Clint Eastwood recently plunged into the murky political pond with his statement, "Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right, you meet the same idiots coming around from the left." Should Farmers Plant GM Terminator Seeds? If a farmer plants the same crop three seasons in a row he might like to have the non-terminating, but if he plants winter wheat and regular wheat he gets paid by the purity as part of his yield and therefore, would prefer the terminating, having no left over seeds growing within his ranks. Also he can plant GM one year when needed for Ethanol and then another type later for another purpose. Which means it is a very good thing not to mix and this solves a need of the market, purity of product and higher prices paid to the farmer (who is leveraged on the commodity side also so he is downside protected in case of poor yields that season), it ain't easy being a farmer these days. Farming is a tough row to hoe these days nearly 50% of the family farmers in the US were unable to make it in the couple of decades, it is a travesty. What could Macedonia Learn from a Tiger? Asian Tigers and Uninterrupted Economic Growth The first reaction of economies in transition is a sharp decline in their production, mainly in industrial production. In the countries which attained independence with the demise of the British Empire (where the sun never set) - industrial production fell by 20% on average. This is somewhat bothersome, as they have publicly stated that they would use nuclear weapons on the United States if we tried to interfere. Well, it seems that as if this is an International Terrorist threat by a nation state's General and therefore, it must be recanted by him and we must ask China to remove him from power. If they fail to do so, we must act decisively and attack China now using everything in our arsenal including large Mega tonnage Nuclear Weapons. After this is done, we can then prove to the world that Nuclear Weapons are evil and must not ever be used again. This will be proof positive of the devastating power of Nuclear Weapons. FTC Franchise Rule Making Sound and Fury in the Sand Box of Free Markets Today we have a new franchise report from the Federal Trade Commission to further inhibit the franchise model thru more redundant paper work and over regulation, which will only serve the lawyers and give job security to the bureaucrats. However, it serves no free man in this present period. If you look at all the comments in the FTC's franchise report and rule making session; you see dickering from both sides over phrases, disclosure topics, wording in the UFOCs from lawyers, franchise rights groups and industry associations.
