Garbage in Garbage out; California Blackouts
Why did the California energy crisis happen? Who is to blame? How come deregulation was a financial disaster? Some of the data in the research did not predict what would happen, probably because research people are not; go for it, make it happen entrepreneurs. So their report was just 1000s of pages of incessant data about nothing and basically BS. It was much like a master thesis of a psychology, philosophy or work of a business student at any university. Written by guess whom and not understood by guess whom else. So the data was wrong and the politicians could not know the difference, due to ignorance, importance of political self-preservation, and therefore accepted the data at face value. As the fiasco unfolded the politicians decided they did not want it. Thus they went and made more laws after the fact and still to this day want to make even more laws, which is why deregulation of the utility industry is a great idea in the first place, because minus all the over regulation it can better perform. The only problem is that there was so much waste, that the utility companies did not know how to operate efficiently in the first place. Instead, when it sold its excess capacity to the commodity type trader, it did not know what to do when it went over its capacity. It then had to buy on the open market energy for a higher price. Of course the same commodity brokers, were there also and had also bought the other energy companies capacities on contracts. What did this whole thing cause? It nearly caused the collapse of California's government, a major utility company in California filed BK, and both of which refused to pay Enron the money they owed on the contracts that were sold. And the premature collapse of Enron. It doesn't matter that Enron manipulated the market to get a financial gain. The fact is, that the State of California deregulated their energy caught off guard when someone took advantage of the rules they set out. Had the State of California not had a closed system for so long on energy generation, had better and less regulations there would be more plants. The energy could go less distance and it all would have worked and this would not have happened. But to wait until 2000 to straighten out CA energy system and go to a free market system, what did they expect? The CA department of energy did not even realize that the transmission lines were not big enough to allow for the excess capacity to be distributed to all possible customers that the contracts might be sold to. Yet that should have been fairly obvious since the costs to create energy are so different using different methods and producing it in different regions, again this fact is due to the over regulation in the first place. If the transmission lines could not handle additional loads then the excess capacity did not exist to all markets, so then it cannot be traded. Yet the CA department of energy never had a clue to think on this when they opened up the trading and deregulation. Why? Linear thinking politicians did not understand free enterprise and efficiencies or the capabilities of their own infrastructures. Thus the California government was taken over by more savvy individuals. Think on it. In most cases, they are looking for people to come forward and share how their lives have been impacted by local gambling establishments. In the majority of these cases, people feel fear of embarrassment from family and friends and therefore, are not willing to discuss how their lives were affected. Anarchy: Law, Order, and Authority [Author's Note: Another essay that I wrote on notebook paper during boring school hours. This wonderful little piece was starting in boring English class on Tuesday, November 26, 2002, and continued into Art class. It was finished in school on Tuesday, December 2, 2002, when I finished it in English class. I worked on it in no other class, and finished it within a few classes. Hooray for high school.] The Criminality of Transition Lecture given at the Netherlands Economic Institute (NEI) on 18/4/2001 Discount Cigarettes and Cheap Tobacco from Europe to the UK It never fails to amaze me. HM Customs and Excise are at it again, stopping everyone in this country from getting the bargains that we are entitled to. The cost of running the country might in fact be out with the Governments budget, but do we have to pay the deficit? Globalism and a Conspiracy The globalist's are the new breed, the new generation if that is what I can call it. The new internationalist might be better. They all think they will find salvation in humanism, or in man himself. I say good luck chumps. Globalism has planted these seed a generation ago, or so, maybe longer, but they started sprouting a generation ago. It calls for the control by governments by a government, to control our wealth, resources; as the United Nations would like to have done, had Kerry made it as President; internationalize the US to their liking. The wealth and resources are somewhat control anyhow, the internationalist have been busy. Fight Terror, With Education A War on Terrorism? Conventional war being brought on an unconventional enemy is ineffective out of date. Building these countries up to a certain level of stability, and allowing them to take over and govern themselves is part of the Presidents plan. If we think the need help getting to build a stable and profitable country in the world market, than let's say what we mean and just do it. Weapons of mass destruction if we had enough evidence to invade Iraq we should have hit those sights first and had those weapons in the first days. Oh, they must have hidden them, well how did we know about them in the first place. It has been more than two years since the bold and terrible attack on the World Trade Towers, and we are chasing shadows here and there. The American Military, the greatest fighting force on the planet, can only find a couple of the main targets. We cannot win a war like this. The US Navy, Marines, Air Force and Army are the best trained and most well equipped fighting force in the world. But for all of their advanced weaponry and the technological advantage they have; they still seem like a lumbering giant searching for the little Indian jumping from tree to tree. Just to use an analogy, I am not prejudice let's get that out of the way right now so I don't have to apologize to every race I may happen to mention. The subject of prejudice would take a whole paper of its own. So let's get back to the subject at hand. How can we stop Terror? Mexican Tariffs on American Goods? Mexican has tariffs on goods, which come into its country from the United States. The tariffs in many cases are 50%. This is said to help Mexico's economy. But if you look at all the money being shipped to Mexico each week by migrant and illegal alien workers you see a much different issue brewing. You see their economy growing and not very much money coming back for US Goods in trade. Thus we are upside down in the trade deficit. Operation Iraqi Freedom, Soldiers and Their Psyche Have you noticed that the when the service men who have been killed in action in this war, that the journalists go harass the families and girlfriends or wives of the fallen soldiers? During these interviews I could not help but notice that the infantry warriors killed had girlfriends or wives who were full figured ethnic woman or young ladies. The inner city kind with the tough attitude; Why is this? I have several ideas why. Here they are: First one is that military bases are in areas that are usually tough neighborhoods, they are near logistical locations with railroad tracks and lots of noise from the base thus richer people do not live near by creating an ethnic type area of population diversity. Notice in any city there is a MLK Blvd. Always near the railroad tracks and is either connected to runs through an industrial area. Near Military bases are always industrial areas for civilian contractors who service the bases needs. Also logistics such as commissary needs, trucking, heavy industrial needs, etc. All this means that the nearest entertainment and release for the soldiers will be right off base nearby and in a rough neighborhood. Thus any person that the warrior meet would be one tough enough to hold her own in the rough neighborhood, such as a sassy full figured women who is local or travels to meet the young studs. Is Inflation Harmful Q. Should the Government be concerned if the CPI rises to 5% ? Lyndon Johnson - The Day After Dallas J. Edgar Hoover and LBJ used to enjoy watching Hoover's agent filmed blackmail evidence for all Washington movers and shakers and we are now a lot more aware of the nature of the unelected Tyrant who rulled for five decades. But what involvement did LBJ and Prescott Bush have with the Assassination squad headed by G. H. W. Bush. Why was Nixon in a Dallas hotel that day? Was JFK going to do more than end the Cold War and the CIA? Did he intend to de-classify the documents that are now available which cause the survivors of Auschwitz to sue GHW Bush? Feeling Squeezed by Political Correctness I'm starting to feel squeezed by all the political correctness being imposed on us by both the Left and the Right. Both sides are constantly trying to infringe on our freedoms by telling us what we can and cannot say or do. I'm getting sick and tired of it. Below are just a few examples of what they are trying to impose on us. Some Farmers and Organic Growers are Upset at Monsanto The organic farmers are angry that Monsantos terminator GM seeds will prevent the farmers from saving seeds from their harvest for next years crops and that Monsanto wishes to put them out of business. Actually it sure makes for headlines, unfortunately that is not how free enterprise works. Monsanto does not want to run anyone out of business; they want to sell seeds. If Monsanto holds them selves out as extortionists by overly inflating the prices as the critics seem to accuse them of doing before they have actually introduced it, then the free market would in fact take over and other companies willing to sell for less would emerge as at first smaller and then much larger competing players would they not. Isn't that the basis for our proven capitalist system, which has given Americans great quality of life, choices and the largest GNP of the next four other nations combined? The Contemporary Global Marketplace - IT, Software, and Services "Had there not been outsourcing and utilization of cheaper resources offshore, average computer users would not have been able to afford the hardware and software that are available to them today." In this manner, author Robin Sood brushes aside superficial criticism of outsourcing and brings home to the reader of IT, Software and Services: Outsourcing and Offshoring two key points: outsourcing is already widely used and its positive effects go well beyond increased company profits. Forget about the naysayers and the trumped-up, political maelstrom of controversy surrounding the issue of outsourcing, Sood urges. Instead, consider that outsourcing is here to stay, as an inevitable part of the global market, and is already providing most of us with practical benefits. Bush and Kerry Differ on Immigration Policies Up until the final debate at Arizona State University, the issue of immigration had not been much discussed. Both presidential candidates know very well that illegal immigration is a hot button topic in our country, and each man is now trying to use it to his political advantage. Since the eighties the Democratic Party has, in general, supported immigrants and has been for fair and just immigration laws. Question Authority Policemen in many US cities are taking their new authority over the terrorism issue way too seriously. They are using it as a reason to harass our citizenry. Just like a bunch of $5.00 and hour security guards. Give a guy a little authority and a badge and boy oh boy he'll show you. You know the problems in America with security guards who are so over zealous that they offend the people who make their job available. Now we have a recruitment issue with not enough people for the jobs in policing. So we are hiring security guards and giving them too much power. Bosnia - An Economy in Search of a State Bosnia-Herzegovina (heretofore "Bosnia") is an artificial polity with four, tangentially interacting, economies. Serbs, Croats and their nominal allies, the Bosniaks each maintain their own economy. The bloated, fractured, turf conscious, inefficient, and often corrupt presence of the international community, in the form of the Office of the High Representative, among others, constitutes the fourth - and most dominant - parallel economy. The divergence of the economies of these components of Bosnia is so high that the inflation differential between them amounts to 13%. The Bosniak-Croat Federation experienced deflation in 1999 - while the Republika Srpska (RS) was in the throes of 14% inflation. The real effective exchange rate in RS appreciated by 13% and depreciated by 6% in the Federation between 1998-2000. Wages in the Federation are higher by 30% compared to the RS. Mother Russia and Poland When Boris Yeltsin spoke about an experiment that 'they' wrought upon his Russian 'brethren' on June 1st, 1991; did anyone ask who THEY were? Here is what he said: Anyone Awake Out There? As we reel from the news of the recent bombings in London, England, it is incumbent upon all of us to examine, seriously, why such attacks by Islamic Extremists are occurring. We cannot combat what we do not understand, let alone try to wage an effective war against such an insidious enemy. |
