Gone With the Wind Almost Did Not Make It
Corporate America has been shaken recently by lawsuits and criminal charges of fraud by Enron, Martha Stewart and Tyco. Huge companies who lied to stockholders, the SEC and the government. They all took stockholders' money and then violated their trust by mishandling it for the profit of top officers. Good old common greed at work at its best. But isn't that what's becoming of America? It's all about the money. For instance, the movie classic Gone With The Wind almost didn't make it to theaters because of the last line spoken by Rhett Butler. In answer to Scarlet's question, "What will I do?" Rhett's answer of, " Frankly, My Dear, I don't give a damn" almost got it axed by the movie censors. How far have we come from that? How much garbage has our kids and their kids heard and seen since Gone With the Wind? But garbage sells. The F-word is everywhere. Some folks cannot utter a complete sentence without it containing the F-word. Sex, violence, filthy language, bombards each of us daily. In entertainment, in advertising, in schools, in sports and on the street, the degradation of morality and goodness is commonplace. Child sexual molestation and child pornography are killing children physically and psychologically. Parents are robbing their own kids' of their childhood by dragging them at age five or younger to soccer and baseball fields or gymnastics and ballet. And in most cases the children observe their parents exhibit the worse in sportsmanship. The best uniforms, equipment, and trophies for everyone by age five feeds parents' egos at the expense of damaging tender youth and innocence. The government is no better. A president having sex with a young page and then lying about it stays in office. A Congress that begins each session with prayer while the Supreme Court is working furiously to band God from everything. The Ten Commandments treated with less respect than the Communist Manifesto. A virus that kills people by the thousands spread by the practice of homosexuality while such a lifestyle is being celebrated in television shows, movies, on the streets and even in Congress and state legislatures. The very institutions that are supposed to uphold and protect the integrity and dignity of our society are waging vicious attacks on the moral fiber of this country. John F. Kennedy's famous statement, "Don't ask what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country" has been perverted into the direct opposite philosophy. We are teaching everyone that it is just and right to take from those who work for it and give it to those who refuse to work. China has the Answer to Environmental Dead Zones Recently scientists have been watching the exponential growth of marine life dead zones off the coasts of human civilizations. In China there are dead zones now, which are over 250 kilometers in radius off the coasts of Shanghai and Beijing. High Speed Trains and The Future of Transportation Where are all the high-speed trains we were promised? Where is a cohesive transportation strategy? With the current price of fuel we need better and efficient systems to move people; these gasoline prices are for the birds or Camels? End Of History? Not Quite A visitor to Moscow would be immediately struck by the fact that an otherwise dull Kremlin now seduces one to break the sound barrier in a mike, rediscover one self on a Compaq or simply feel Warner in a Pringles. If this is not enough then there is always Chairman Mao in Tiananmen Square calling upon workers and peasants to not only carry forward the revolution but also gulp down a Sprite, while they are at it. Numerous more examples abound from the Adriatic, so what does it all signify? Is it truly the end of History? Do we now see a time when a matter of ideology is drinking a Coke or a Pepsi? Closer introspection would reveal that it is not quite so. The Route to Democracy Fifteen hours is a tremendous barrier. I believe that of course that hindsight is always easy to use to place blame, however we must continue the program and the Space Shuttle as it sits may not be the best technology as newer technology is now available for re-useable craft such as; Let us Disband The FTC?s Franchising Division Previously Senator Dick Armey and his staff in 2000 to review seriously the important decision to scrutinize the FTC's franchising division. Mr. Armey has sense retired. Today, I urge the Administration, the GAO, Senate Subcommittee and other governmental oversight bodies to curtail the efforts of the FTC to further over regulate the MUD (much unnecessary disclosure) plaguing our industry. How much should the FTC's franchise group be downsized? We see by the introduction of a proposed change and additions to the franchise rule that they have over stepped their usefulness in franchising, so perhaps that division should receive no funding and be immediately disbanded. I have an interesting case study and 2000 pages of proof of innocence of an action taken against my company by the FTC. Water Conservation, Retention and Better Policies As the populations expand in Colorado outside of Denver, Las Vegas, North County San Diego, Atlanta, Phoenix, Tucson, San Bernardino, Riverside, Albuquerque, etc; The West will need to look to transferring the load of cities like Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Diego, and San Bernardino to getting water from the ocean through Desalination Plants. At one point during the last drought states had to make a choice between fighting fires or saving the water for drinking. This could have been a serious issue in CO, MT, NM, NV and AZ. Questioning Both Sides of the GM Crop Debate One question not addressed in GM Crops and Monsanto Terminator Seeds Debate and one which cannot be found in any of the online white papers on the subject is: What is known about Bee Pollination with regards to these things, if the seeding an cross-pollination cannot use the services of the Bees and Butterflies then this too could mean lower yields and thus hurt Monsanto and those which buy certain seeds from certain crops from them as well as feeding the world? And what about Wild crops in some countries that feed people? Would they be slowed due to a larger percentage of Terminating seeds?
