The Business Shaman: Exploring the Mystery of Success!
Note: This article was written for a internet business site. It is a promo for my work with the business world. I published it here for anyone who is interested in a shamanic perspective on creating success, in both business and life. If you read between the lines, it will offer you some help when dealing with any challange. The sound of the drum is strong and steady. It's cold and damp in the large cave, except near the central fire. There are 40 naked, hairy, human-like creatures in deep celebration. Yet there is fear in the air. The clan is preparing for the next hunt. The shaman enters and speaks to the group of his dreams, explaining all the dangers the tribe will face tomorrow. The hunters begin to prepare themselves mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. The shaman leaves, going into his small, sacred cave to begin the magic ceremony. He must do this to help bring about a successful hunt, and to protect the tribe from what he knows lay ahead. He has seen it all in his visions, he's an intuitive. That was a long time ago, or was it? You still need a place to live in, perhaps a cave, but more likely an apartment or house. You still need food to eat, but most likely from the grocery store. So, things have not really changed but just updated. Today we don't trade shells for our supplies and services, but money [ and lot of it ]. So we need success in our economic and business life. But like the primal hunter, we need more then just survival, we need a mental, emotional, physical and spiritual approach to help us be fully successful. We also need a good source of intuitive information to guide us through the challanging times. So things have come full circle as more and more people are living a holistic lifestyle. The health and mental health fields have been shifting towards holism, and for many years I was deeply involved with that. Today, the business world is also changing, you only have to read the newspaper to know that. I have spent the last ten years exploring and testing new, more holistic business approaches that can be applied to day to day operations or towards reaching long term goals. I've hosted television programs on these matters, and publish an online magazine dealing with shamanism and holism as it applies to life and business. Oh yes, I am a real shaman. I bring to my work a strong male intuitive function and all the trimmings of the ancient shamans but with a modern perspective. I am known as the business shaman. I went on line to offer my services to the global business community. I work with all levels and aspects of business and deal with any issue through training, coaching, consulting and intuitive guidance. Generally I work in a partnership with you and your business to create, reorganize or transform. Why Employees Are the Best Source of Cost-cutting Ideas Cost cutting has become a necessary and important reality in the modern corporate world. Yet many executives do not realize that their people are actually the best source of cost reduction ideas. Competion or Cooperation? It has been said, there is no better way to hone your skills and improve your performance, than competition. Competing with others, or even with your self, fosters continued improvement, striving for even higher goals, and an ongoing sense of achievement. Competition in the world of business is natural and expected. Every business has competitors that are vying for the dollars in the marketplace. And over the years, some of these competitors have been classic. Coke versus Pepsi comes to mind, as does Avis versus Hertz in the rental car industry. Years ago Miller Lite had commercials where two factions of their fans competed over the reason to buy their product. As a crowd gathered half the group would shout out "Less Filling!!" while the other half would retort "Tastes Great!!!" They were humorous commercials with Miller Lite being the only real competitor. These classic competitions served to strengthen the product itself and made the competitors stronger. In effect, both Pepsi and Coke won, as did Avis and Hertz. Human Resource Communication Pays Off Human Resource Communications and Corporate Communications ? are they one in the same? Both plan and develop written communication strategies to further the understanding and perceptions of their audience. Both provide counsel and editorial support for management communications. Setting Direction Within an Organization FINDING DIRECTION: An organization can't succeed without direction. Direction means having clear goals and guidelines; set goals and guidelines for staff to follow. When staff direction is needed, you must provide effective procedures for everyone to follow. Have guidelines and goals firmly set to keep the gray areas to the absolute minimum. It's up to you, to keep the departmental goals and that sense of direction so that it is not allowed to be buried beneath the workload. Tales from the Corporate Frontlines: Adapting Human Resource Functions This article relates to the human resource functions competency, commonly evaluated in employee satisfaction surveys. It deals with employee feelings with regard to the quality and implementation of the human resource role within your organization. A human resource department that is properly informed of employee issues, demonstrates a high integrity level, and communicates effectively with staff and management supports a high level of confidence in the company, throughout the workforce. Steps to Build ISO 9001 Compliant Program Implementing an ISO 9001 system represents a major effort. However, all of that effort can represent a significant shift for a business - from quantity to quality. And this could make sure your business gets the desired results. Avoid Outsourcing Pitfalls in the Injection Molds and Stamping Dies Markets When looking to outsource overseas for Plastic Injection Molds or Stamping Dies there are many things to consider.Usually price is the first thing to be looked at, that's probably why you're looking overseas for a new mold or die source-to save money. One of the first places to come to mind is Asia.Large labour forces and low wages can get your job done quickly and cheaply. Or so you think. Quick Tip - Effective Meetings Earn a Profit Most people treat meetings as a free resource that can be used to deal with any issue. As a result, huge amounts of time and money are wasted on trivia. Business Innovation ? the Value of Structure Creativity can be defined as problem identification and idea generation whilst innovation can be defined as idea selection, development and commercialisation. Executive Humor at Meetings I don't encourage managers to wear funny hats, appear in self-deprecating skits, or otherwise emulate Saturday Night Live in an attempt to manufacture an image as, "Look, folks! I'm just one a' the guys!" If clients insist, I do what I can to help. I want the money. But it's not usually such a hot idea. Understanding How Change Has Changed There seems to be an assumption that change is a single traumatic event that is thrust upon us and over which we have no control. Is ISO 9001 2000 Right For My Business? Firstly you should decide your own reasoning behind considering ISO 9001 2000 registration for your business. Todays Employees and Their New Needs: What You Need to Know Today's employees are not only interested in security or in pay and fringe benefits. They are often placing increased value on being recognized and involved in reaching personal growth goals. As a supervisor you must be aware of these new values. Keeping your employees' interests and priorities will help you better motivate them to work well. Management - Mary Poppins Style! Mary Poppins describes a style of management which has for too long been hidden in many businesses and organisations.Think about it.She's "Practically perfect in every way" - is that not what we want from a boss? Someone who is almost brilliant at everything - yet with a hint of not being absolutely perfect? Someone we can trust and depend on - yet who is truly human with is and falls down occasionally too?And then there's the cut to the chase with, "Bert, what utter nonsense. Why do you always complicate things that are really quite simple." How often do we, often inadvertently (especially the more senior an executive we are), make things so, so complex. Recently working with a client who already had over 125 books on systems, when all they were doing was selling things to people...And then there's all the fun, like..."Of course, you can say it backwards, which is dociousaliexpilisticfragicalirupus, but that's going a bit too far, don't you think?"...a satisfying ability to have fun and, I think perhaps just a hint of a smile at yourself, Mary, in that..., as Bert says "Indubitably.!" Not forgetting either, that if we look hard enough, with the right viewpoint..."In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun. You find the fun and - SNAP - the job's a game!" Customer Focus - Just 5 SimpleThings You Need to Think About You can boil down the difference between successful businesses and the rest in how they work with their customers, in just five areas. So, what does this mean? What They WantSelling what your customers really want is just critical. Being on good enough terms with your customers to research, (hey maybe just by chatting with them - radical idea, huh?), helps you find out how you can best serve their needs.Price is RightBy balancing the kind of pricing you want to offer with exceptional service levels, there is a fascinating calculation to be made. Prices rock-bottom with inadequate attention to item 5 are not likely to bring profitableconsumers rushing to your door. Providers have an ongoing dance between price and service - be aware of it. It is not possible to sustain your business with lowest prices and poor service. When They Want ItIn the internet world, availability of your goods and services is measured critically far more than ever before. You may not need to be 24/7, but you certainly need to be aware of it. More traditional customers are also becoming more demanding. So businesses need to be especially sensitive to the hours they trade, whether they sell goods or services, by stores and/or phone.Easy To BuyWith the advent of the internet, making it easy to purchase is vital. Why not make purchases from the comfort of your home study or workplace office? So having your people who are available, exactly when your customer wants them, to make payment for goods and services relly easy is a serious point worth considering. Even in shops, the sensitivity of simply having staff focused on delivering the very best of attention is critical. Every day there may be threats to different shopping channels, so the adage that you 'only have one chance to make a first impression' is becoming ever more important.Trusted Follow UpBy ensuring that you have all your ducks in a row so far, sustainably building whatever business you are in, is vitally dependent on how you handle ongoing customer service. Indeed if you are only focusing on a one-time purchase, then, frankly, you are not going to have much of a future. Repeat business is very inexpensive for you, so an investment of post-purchase excellence is very worthwhile.By focusing on these five elements, teasing out the consequences with your management teams, you will have a great chance of making business progress. If you choose not to take the time to analyse what you truly need to do, there will be a jeopardy for you in the not to distant future. Discover the Astonishing Power of Words Today!
