Celebrate Achieving Smaller Goals Along The Way
I wanted to learn to swim. So I set my goals, I got down to it, worked hard and struggled to overcome all obstacles. That's the right way to do it, isn't it? After a month of working at it, with lessons, and practice why wasn't I happy about it? Every time I'd see someone swim effortlessly down the pool I'd look at my own progress and feel inadequate. It's sometimes the same in life, and business. You can do everything right, by setting out your goals, making some progress, but feel depressed that you haven't reached your main goal quite yet. Well, try this. Set some smaller, interim goals for along the way. I need to float. I need to kick my feet. I need to paddle my hands. Then each time you achieve your interim goals celebrate the fact that you've accomplished something new and better. Remember that even the guy who was swimming effortlessly down the pool will have someone who's a better swimmer than they are. It's the progress that you should celebrate. There's a great motivational poster called 'Celebrate ? Dolphins' with a quote that says "Take pride in your achievements". This I can do. In fact I tried the 'stop and smell the roses' approach but who has time to stop for anything these days. This way I can maintain my breakneck speed pace in life and get some enjoyment out of the things I get done by doing my little 'celebrate' thing for each small goal meet. It seems to work. So, ok, I've got 'float' down pretty good. I can kick my feet. Reason to celebrate for sure as I won't drown if I fall in a pool now. So celebrate, and kick, and kick, and kick. Living The Real Life Beyond Goal Setting In many of his wonderful talks the motivational speaker Zig Ziglar states "you've got to have goals." Have you ever asked yourself why? The Influence of People Who Surround You It is known that the human body sends out vibrations: some are positive, while others are negative. We have orbits formed by people who surround us and with whom we associate closely throughout our entire lives. In my book "The Art & Craft of Success: 10 Steps" by Ostaro, I expand fully on the impact people have upon us. The Importance Of Having A Goal In Life At the age of twenty two, I read a book that described the importance of having a goal in life. In the books example, a survey had been carried out at a school. Students who had just taken their GCSE'S were asked to answer various questions, one of which asked, "Where would you like to be in five years time?" Goal Setting and Goal Getting: Here Are Some Quotes that Can Change Your Life Here are several quotes about setting and achieving goals. My comments follow. Rebuilding Oneself: The Universes Basic Training I remember Air Force Basic Training. My Training Instructor not only wanted to teach me the military way, but he also wanted to break me down so that he could rebuild me according to the needs of the military. These are two of the underlying premises of your first few weeks, or months, of your time in the military. Actually, I enjoyed it, but then Air Force Basic is only between six and eight weeks. The other branches have much more extensive training programs that can last for months. Goal Getting: 5 Steps to Get You There Quickly One of the things that frustrated me while in school was that most of the psychology books specialized in complicating things. It's the same with many self-help books as well. I always wondered why relationships, change and meeting goals couldn't be made much more simple. Getting What You Want 1. Call them any way you like, but nevertheless they exist, chasing you at every step you make. They spoil our lives; put the spokes in our wheel, making tricky endeavors to distract us. The biggest nuisance they cause is that they prevent us from reaching success in life. The only way out of this situation is to disclose them and to wipe them out once and for all. Make Your Dreams Reachable All too often, we may be envisioning a level of success, which is far beyond what we can realistically accept and thus fall short of full manifestation. However, if we can envision a period of time in which our success can gradually increase, quite often our subconscious can more easily accept it. However, allowing ourselves to get comfortably accustomed to a steadily increasing flow of abundance in our lives tends to stabilize it for us. |
