Is Worry Necessary?
Who hasn't experienced "worry" at one time or another? Almost everyone I'm sure. As a result many if not all consider this to be not only a normal human "emotion" but also a necessary fact of life. I would like to show here that in fact "worry" is completely unnecessary. I begin with the following question. Why do we choose to entertain the state of worry in our minds/bodies? Well most think that: 1. Worry keeps us alert and in a state of preparedness, thereby, 2. It makes us more able to handle untoward events or situations that may come our way, thereby, 3. It helps protect us from such events, thereby, 4. It keeps us feeling safe, secure, calm and at peace. In summary then from the above we can say that: (A): Worry makes us feel safe, secure, calm and at peace. Now does statement (A) above resonate with you as the truth? (Yes or No) If you're not sure I ask you to do the following. Think of something that you worry about. As you are thinking about this allow the feelings of worry to emerge so that you can reacquaint yourself with how it feels to be in the "worried state". Now notice how the worry makes you feel. I think that most will notice perhaps feelings of uneasiness, tension, anxiety, a sense of dread, feelings of insecurity, feelings of uncertainty, a sense of distractedness, a feeling of heaviness, and perhaps a host of negative thoughts running through your mind. So what you have just deliniated for yourself is the experience of "worry" itself. So, now in this experience do you recognize any feelings of security, safety, calmness or inner peace? If you are honest with yourself I think you will see that none of these feelings exist in that experience of worry, correct? So that makes statement (A) above false doesn't it? At this point you may feel that something strange is going on here. You might ask yourself "Is he trying to trick me or something?". Well no I'm not trying to trick you. In fact I'm just trying to show you how you've been tricking yourself into believing that a falsehood was in fact a truth. The falsehood being statement (A). You may wish to answer the following questions for yourself at this point in order to experience an remarkable transformation for yourself: 1. Do you recognize that you have been harboring statement (A) inside you as if it were the truth? (Yes or No) 2. Do you want to go on harboring this false statement inside of you? (Yes or No) 3. Is the experience of "worry" toxic to you? (Yes or No) 4. Do you want statement (A) living anywhere inside of you? (Yes or No) 5. Do you want the "worry" living inside of you? (Yes or No) 6. If you answered No to question 2, what is the consequence to you of going on harboring statement (A) inside of you (i.e. to go on believing that it is true)? Now if you've followed me so far you are likely having one of two experiences. For one you may be feeling a sense of great relief, feeling lighter, feeling energized, feeling more at peace, calmer, a greater sense of security and more optmiistic. Or, you may be feeling confused and frustrated with the entire exercise. If you are feeling the former I congratulate you on your courage to take this monumental step forward in your life. If you are feeling the latter, you are likely still reluctant to let the worry go because you believe at some deeper level that it still is useful to you. Understanding Your Stress Levels In order to understand stress better, it is a good idea to understand that there are different stress levels. These levels vary in the form of stress they take and they can often provide an indication of how to treat the stress. Furthermore, there are tests available that can help people understand their own, particular brand of stress and, with this knowledge, they can also understand themselves better. Improving Self Esteem with Affirmations and Therapeutic Relaxation Music Positive self-esteem is very important for our general health and wellness as human beings. Having positive self-esteem is also important for promoting any type of healing, whether physical, emotional or spiritual. Poor or low self-esteem on the other hand can be quite detrimental to our well-being and even our very existence. Negative self-esteem can create anxiety, stress, loneliness, depression, problems with relationships, seriously impair academic and job performance and also can generate an increased vulnerability to drug and alcohol abuse and dependency. On the other hand, a person with positive self-esteem tends to be more motivated in taking on and creating a life that he loves, living it powerfully and in this process be authentically related to others in his community. Having positive self-esteem appears to be necessary for having a happy and healthy existence regardless of who we are or what profession we are taking on in life. Three Stress Relief Techniques There is good stress, and there is bad stress. Good stress is the type that propels a person to excel, to reach new heights or to complete a big project on time. Recognize the Early Signs of Burnout Most of us are trying to balance work, home, and a family life. We tend not to accept the early symptoms of burnout and carry on our daily lives. In my opinion, living your life isn't supposed to be that way. If you ignore the red flags, you'll become gravely ill and your life could come to a complete halt. Build Your Stress Tolerance While free-lancing for business magazines, I was assigned to write a story about a steel production company that supplied pipe to the energy industry. I was intrigued by the rigorous stress tests run on each piece of pipe. One procedure involved a "hydro test" - water was pumped inside the pipe until a pre-determined pressure was reached. The pressure was maintained for a set duration of time; weaknesses or flaws in the pipe caused leaking or bursts of water. If there were no leaks or bursts, the pipe was approved for delivery to a client. Taking Care of Yourself Living in our world today can be very stressful. While some of the stress that we experience is actually useful for motivating us, a point can be reached where it becomes very harmful, physically, emotionally and even spiritually. Knowing how to manage and even reduce the harmful effects of stress on a daily basis, of staying balanced and centered as we encounter the many stressors of everyday living, is crucial to our well being. Among other things, taking care of ourselves will necessarily involve us nurturing our physical body, of eating healthy foods, of exercising. Learning how to take care of ourselves in this respect is also very important for everyone as our experience of stress can and does affect others as well. Stress Management Techniques Self-Care Strategies: Relieve Anxiety with Hypnosis There are two types of anxiety: Stress Free COBRA If you have recently lost health insurance coverage through your employer from voluntarily or invulnerably termination of employment (excluding reasons of gross misconduct), you and your dependents may be eligible to continue your coverage under COBRA (Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act). Hypnosis CDs - Relief from Stress The number one most popular issue that users of a self hypnosis cd or clients of a hypnotherapist seek help with is stress. Even if their presenting issue appears different, such as a phobia or lack of confidence, somewhere in the mix will be a stress issue. So helping anyone to reduce their stress can be a great and effective way of reducing the symptoms and often the cause of any issue. 10 Ways to Reduce Commuting Stress Do you get out of your car with a queasy stomach, a headache and your blood pressure registering through the roof? If you do, that energy vulture called stress may have sent your pulse skyrocketing. In a study conducted at the University of California at Irvine, researchers found that the stress of commuting takes a major toll on health. According to the study, it has direct physiological effects of raising blood pressure and releasing stress hormones into the body. Not only that, long commutes (more than 18 miles one way) may also increase the likelihood of having a heart attack due to exposure to high levels of air pollutants, which appears to be a risk factor for heart disease. 7 Healthy Ways To Release Holiday Stress Many people go through the motions during Christmas.
