Jesus The Great Comforter! When Life is not fair!
We see it all the time in people's lives someunwanted circumstance enters and life is turnedupside down. A loss of a job, an unexpected bill, sickness you name it. I think we have all said atone time or another, "gosh, life just doesn't seemto be fair. It does not suppose to be this way; itwasn't what I had planned." We hear about it all the time in people's livessomeone leaves a marriage, a friend disappointsyou when you need them the most, or someone is notthe person you expected them to be. Ourexpectations in others sometimes just never seemsto be met. We experience it at times in our own lives whenlife and love come together and all we come upwith is the absence of logic. We rack our brainsto find some reasons or rationales for events orpeoples behaviors only to find ourselves left withmore confusion and frustrations. Was life fair to Jesus? Absolutely not! Did peopledisappoint him? You bet! Did events in his lifenot make sense to him at times? Probably so! Butthrough it all even up until the time of his deathJesus had a passion for giving people comfort inthe midst of events, unmet expectations and timesof no rhyme nor reason. One of the Passions Jesushad was he is the great comforter. "Come to me allwho are heavy laden and I will give you rest."the bible says. Yet nowhere in the bible does hesay that our lives will be perfect. Nowhere doeshe say others will always live up to ourexpectations, and nowhere does he say that we willunderstand it all. But what he does say allthrough out the bible is when; life, love andlogic disappoints come to the cross and lay ourburdens down. There is no other place than on ourknees that Jesus would rather us be. It is in ourquestions of life, our disappointments of others, and our times of confusion where we find the mostcomforter in Jesus. If we wait until life is 100 percent, loved onesare totally to our liking, and we try tounderstand everything about them both, life maynever be lived, love may never be found and we maymiss out on the true meaning of why Jesus died onthe cross for us. Romans 8:28 does say, "And weknow that all things work together for good tothem that loves God, to them who are calledaccording to his purpose." Jesus wants us to lovelife, love others and love him that is the truemeaning of life. This week when life isn't fair, disappoints ariseand things don't seem to make any sense rememberJesus is our comforter and it's at the cross wherehe died that we can lay our burdens down. When Bad Things Happen (Part 2) The good that Paul writes about is a commitment of life to the sovereign will of God. It is complete trust in God. It is a conviction that cannot be blurred even by the reality of human suffering. Mankinds Ten Worst Enemies: #4 Malice Malice is a great enemy to mankind. It is evil and wicked. It is destructive to both the victim of its attacks and the perpetrator as well. The Psalmist pleaded, "Do not drag me away with the wicked, with those who do evil, who speak cordially with their neighbors but harbor malice in their hearts." The Greatest Gift (Channelled) Dark Cages Acknowledgement of our need of God and reliance upon Him will not always rid us of life's pressures, will not always remove from us the difficult situations, the dark cage within which we sometimes find ourselves trapped. We shall not always escape the pressures of life and the dark situations which they bring. But we can, with God, withstand them and find resources for enduring them even when they, for the time being, do not let up. Clear Mind, Empty Head: A Leak In Mind Like Water There's a lot of talk in meditation circles about emptying the mind. Who Am I? Who Are you? Starved Spirits, Sorrowful Souls Give us today our daily bread. Matthew 6:11 (NIV) Origin of Certain Thoughts (Part II) Continued from "Origin of Certain Thoughts, Part I" African American Hiking for Spiritual Health Hiking is gaining popularity within the African-American community. We're beginning to spend more time in nature in an effort to connect deeply with the spirit within. The alertness that is required to observe the natural beauty around us is calming, energizing and edifying. Noticing the colors on the trees, listening to the sounds of the birds, and overlooking scenic landscapes or wonderful bodies of water can heal the soul very profoundly. The Miracle of Lexie Chihuahua I would like to tell you the story of a very special little Chihuahua girl. Her name is Lexie (short for Alexa) and I call her my "grand-puppy. " She came to me through a series of miracles that I believe were orchestrated by my son, Brian Michael, before his passing on February 22, 2003. Lexie has brought more comfort and love to me than I can even describe. She has been my constant companion and my live connection with Brian. Do You Really Want to Know the Truth? Back in 1992, Jack Nicholson and Tom Cruise co-starred in a movie entitled A Few Good Men. The high point of the film, in my view, was a classic, heated exchange between their characters, during which Kaffee (the military attorney played by Cruise) says: "I want the truth," and Col. Jessup (Nicholson) responds: "You can't handle the truth." Acknowledging the Existence of Your Soul Talking about your "soul" and the deeper things in life is so frequently considered as spun out or weird in modern, take-away-eating, order-it-on-the-internet life, but if you are one of these people, you'll find that letting go of socialistic trends like these will free you in a way that you simply cannot be freed in a materialists world. Tarot Basics A Tarot card deck typically consists of 78 colorful cards imprinted with what many deem fascinating and curious images. The cards, each filled with a particular meaning and portent, most often come somewhat larger than ordinary playing cards and make an impressive display when ritually laid out. This deck of special cards can be used by a trained "reader" for glimpsing into his or her own future or that of another person for whom the cards are read. The Tarot deck, divided into Major Arcana and Minor Arcana, contains 22 symbolic cards and 56 suit cards ? wands, swords, cups, and pentacles ? interestingly also called "pip" cards. Homeless, Rejected, and Poor Fanny J. Crosby's famous hymn, "Tell Me the Story of Jesus," describes the Savior in terms of Isaiah 53: "He was despised and afflicted," and then adds, "homeless, rejected, and poor." Last week, as we sang this beautiful song, I focused on that word, "homeless," and thought about all of the connotations we give to it these days. The Many Waters, Lauretta Lueck The Many Waters explores the universe and sifts through the ancient sands to find the truth about our creation. Careful examination of writings like The Dead Sea Scrolls, The Sacred Books of The Jews, Pistis Sophia, and the King James Version of the Bible, with special emphasis on The Book of Genesis, reveals what once was thought fantasy and myth may actually be truth. The author approaches these ancient texts from a scientific angle to bring together two opposing ideas, science and God. An Alternative to A Life of Healing While I do hope to avoid arguing the merits or validity of seeing ourselves as primarily and essentially wounded and on a lifelong quest for wholeness via healing, I would like to offer another perspective on wholeness that may disagree with and/or upset some. This perspective is pointed at by the Mystical Traditions of the East and West, and one in which we begin with the understanding of our innate and eternal perfection. This view could be summarized as: Unleashing The Treasures Of The Midnight 'O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!...' (Romans 11:33) Heroes and Heroines - Contemplating Conscious Evolution The myths of man have been with us throughout time. Since the earliest of cave drawings to modern books and film, the myths of man have been the creators of man, providing both meaning and symbolism to his / her life. A People in Exile (Part 2) Mother Nature has this uncanny tendency to turn upon herself ? undoing with her left hand what she has made with her right. She sends hailstorms to the destruction of her own blossoms. She unleashes a tempest upon the crop that she herself has ripened for the harvest. Lightning splits the trees that she has nurtured and sets the forest aflame. There is Light at the End of the Tunnel - Just Get Out of Your Way ! There is light at the end of the tunnel, but some days it seems like it is miles away. You have doneeverything you can think of to do, physically or mentally and don't even get me started on the list of emotions that have been involved in the whole process of creating the dream that you have held within your mind's eye.The delays keep coming. You stop and tell yourself several times a day.. there is light at the end of thetunnel... don't give up now. The list keeps coming and we have heard them all... "Plant a seed and watch it grow"and "Rome wasn't built in a day" and still you wait. |
