Quick Tips On Handling Rejection
Looking for a way to handle rejection? Edward W. Smith, motivational speaker, author and TV show host, who specializes in quick tips on how to move your life ahead even faster, offers the following advice. The secret to handling rejection is to keep coming back. You have to be in the game to win it and if you quit, it is over. Remember, success is generally located just beyond the spot you fell. First, find a way to avoid taking the rejection personally, so you can deal with the rejection objectively. While rejections most always seem personal, they rarely are. Next analyze why the rejection occurred. Then look for ways to either change the thing that was rejected or find new places where acceptance is more likely. Most things in life are a numbers game, in that we have to make X amount of tries before we get acceptance. Figure out what the number of trys is required before you get a win. Look at the rejection as bringing you one step closer to hitting that magic number of rejections that will bring you acceptance. Finally, remember that winners lose more than losers lose; winners keep losing until they win. Contact Information Copyright Edward W. Smith 2005 Edward W. Why Salespeople Fail Since 1990 I have focused on the three primary barriers which affect the performance of salespeople:- Increase Your Sales in 5 Minutes Increase your sales-in five minutes. This article is the third in a series of five articles probing the five critical points influencing how you find a steady stream of customer for your business. Effective Account Management Congratulations! You successfully sold one or more of your company's products or services to a business unit, department, or division of a large organization. Now your manager has tasked you with "account management". If you are not already familiar with account management, you are probably asking yourself the following questions:What is "Account Management"?What skills and talents are required to excel in Account Management? What activities must be performed to maximize Account Management ROI?Providing answers to these questions is the focus of this article. Sales Prospects Avoiding You? This issue's topic on sales prospects comes in response to a question I received from a reader. Question: Five weeks ago, I had a good conversation on the phone with an important prospect in my territory. They have a need for our product and the prospect seems to acknowledge this as well. Every time I have talked to him, he has been very interested and seemingly aware of the problem in his company that our product can help solve. I sell print management and print tracking software and the prospect acknowledged that the cost of printing is an issue for his organization. Last time we talked, he indicated he needed to gather some information regarding his current operating cost (which we most likely would be able to cut) before coming in for a demo. But when I called back at the time we had agreed upon, I kept getting voicemail. I have not been able to get him on the phone and he doesn't respond to the voicemails I left either. What do you recommend I do?" When Sales Prospects Won't Take Your Calls Positioning for Profits! Last Friday, I was spending one last day of freedom with a dear friend who was expecting to have her first baby at any minute. We decided to hang out by the pool. The Art And Science of Closing - How To Close More Sales Right Now One of the questions I often get asked as a sales coach by sales people and business owners alike is, "How do I close sales better? What closing techniques would you recommend?" Separating Yourself from the Crowd (Part One of Two) Warren Buffet says that insurance is a commodity and price is the main factor in the market place. It seems that nowadays, lowest price wins, regardless of the other factors. More and more people are turning to direct writers because they believe that 15 minutes and a catchy commercial with a dancing lizard can save them some money. Forget the relationship, forget being able to actually see your insurance agent and forget you if you are $0.01 higher than the "other" guy. The Canned Sales Pitch Myth Canned or scripted sales approaches are rarely successful, because one size does not fit all in selling. How to Achieve Sales Goals by Focusing on Activities When I broke into sales in 1986, I read several books that talked about how important it was to set goals if you wanted to achieve success. I bought into the idea completely and started writing down extensive lists of goals that I expected to achieve, along with due dates for each goal. Per the advice in the books, I made my goals nice and lofty. You know, make a six-figure income, buy lots of nice toys, go on fabulous vacations, that kind of stuff. And, every day, several times a day, I visualized what my life would be like after I had achieved my goals. Make More Sales By Creating How To Use It Product Updates Do you have any idea what your customers have experienced from using the products they have purchased from you? Most of the vendors I work with make a sale and move on. They often don't bother investing much time improving the products they sell to their customers, much less develop ways to help them better understand how to use them. A very small minority of vendors have continued to send me unsolicited free bonus 'how to use it' follow-up emails and publications long after I made my purchase from them. And whenever I receive something like this, it almost always compels me to take another look at the product I purchased ? because anything that helps me understand more ways to use what I already own is pretty useful to me. Unlocking the Myth of Hypnotic Communication Unquestionably when the word hypnosis pops-up in a conversation or in the mainstream press, nostrils flair, minds conjure up strong reactions of parlor tricks and pictures of late night scary movies where starry-eyed maidens are seduced to carry out satanic acts. Here we are, in modern times, where we have set foot on the moon, (ops ? better watch my words ? there are people who still think the earth is flat) broke the sound barrier, communicate wireless with the most modern technology and still people see hypnosis has a hoax. Even the well educated are not off the hook from such lack of knowledge and ignorant responses. Have You Prepared for Success in Sales? My wife and I watched the movie Ray a couple of weeks agowhen it came out on DVD. In the movie Jaime Foxx plays thelegendary singer Ray Charles. I was amazed at how Jaime hadcaptured the essence of Ray Charles. Many times throughoutthe movie I wondered if it was Jaime Foxx or Ray Charles I was seeing on my TV. How To Become A Sales Superstar And Have Fun Winning More Business - Start Here! One of the interesting things about being a coach and speaker is that I have the good fortune to work with lots of different people from all sorts of different types of companies, markets and backgrounds. Whilst I do work (on the motivation and public speaking side) with non-sales people probably 95%+ of the work I do is with sales teams of some sort or other! As such, I get a real insight into the challenges and issues that many top sales performers face and also into who they are and what they believe. Secrets to Getting in Front of Your Best Prospects As a salesperson, your ultimate goal, of course, is to make that sale. But the process begins with selecting your best prospect. The objective is to spend more time with your best prospects and less time with suspects. Sell Without Feeling Like A Used Car Salesman Many business owners and professionals are appalled at the thought of having to sell their products or services. If you are going to be successful though, regardless of your profession, you are also going to be in the business of selling. But you don't have to don a plaid jacket and adopt the sales techniques that have made the used car salesman infamous. Order Takers vs. Sales Professionals As business owners we all know that in a ideal world prospects would just pick up the phone and give us an order ? but for most of us sales is not like that! Yes it would be utopia however have you considered the difference between order takers and sales professionals? Firstly they are two completely different animals. Lets face facts order takers are less likely to be skilled in sales technique. This includes the ability to easily up sell, cross sell or add on services. Order takers are by there very nature just waiting for the phone to ring and do not work on a pro active basis. If we left everything to the client then so many additional products would never have been sold. Top 5 Characteristics of Great Salespeople I am a big believer that great salespeople generally realize their greatness, rather than being borne that way. OK, sure we've all heard somebody in sales who told us that they've been in sales all their life. It all started when they were a kid, selling lemonade from their lemonade stand for a dime, or selling magazines door to door. But this is really more a reflection of the family environment that they grew up in that may have encouraged or necessitated this than anything else. Even if you didn't sell seeds or magazine subscriptions door to door as a kid, you still have a chance at greatness in sales. Increase Your Sales With an Incredible Offer What are you selling? Direct Sales and the Use of Clipboards Do you ever feel that when you are doing direct sales you find yourself not getting respect from the local businesses? They are busy and you are an interruption of course, yet at the same time, it does slow you down. Smart direct sales marketers carry clipboards into offices to sell and take orders. Clipboards come in many colors and styles; plastic, aluminum, clear, etc. These clipboards should have your company logo on the bottom. They should also have calculators on the clip. The logo should be made of vinyl lettering in your company colors. They should be durable or high tech plastic clipboard which can be dropped from six feet without breaking. They should also have a company pen attached which contrasts such as a yellow pen with blue ink or red ink inside. The sign-up sheets for orders or receipts should be on top and attached to the clipboard. Selling - Always Go for Top Money If you've ever flown economy class on an internationalflight then you've probably noticed that the airline makesyou walk through Business or First Class to get to youreconomy seat. You become very much aware of the wider isles, the more spacious, comfortable seats and the greater legroom. |
