< Refining Your Telephone Prospecting Techniques To Be A Master Closer!
Let me create a picture for you. This is the best way to illustrate my point. "On a busy street you are approached apologetically by a well-dressed stranger who asks for a dollar to catch a bus and make a phone call. He says he has lost his wallet. What would you think? If approached in the same way by a haggard-looking stranger claiming to be hungry and unable to find a job, what would you think? When canvassing prospects on the telephone in an effort to ask them to join your organization or close a sale, how do you sound? Do you sound like you are poor and in need of some people to help you earn money..or do you sound like you are prosperous and are looking for people to make prosperous along with you? Analyze you telephone presentation accordingly. If you don't sound prosperous, your prospect will feel it and question your intentions. How can you offer them prosperity if you don't have a taste of it yourself? Good question huh? You know that old saying "Fake it until you make it"? Well, toss it in the garbage can when it comes to prospecting. In order to sound prosperous, you must feel and think prosperous! You can't fake it! Prosperity is not just a state of existence, it is a frame of mind! People know when you do not have that prosperous state of mind. Most prosperous people are kind of cocky. They exude confidence and take the usage of their time VERY SERIOUSLY! They are very frank, shrewd and they don't ramble off with a lot of talk. In other words, they are experienced screeners, prequalifiers who will quickly tell you that they are not hard up for just anybody to join their organization. In fact, they will tell you, they DON'T want just anybody to join their organization. They only want a streamline team of the best. Can you say that to yourself when you are making prospecting calls? Can you say to yourself "I'm screening people and I onlywant the best. If this person doesn't fit the bill, I'm going to close the conversation quickly and nicely? Or are you thinking before you make the calls, "Boy, I sure need to make more money with this program, real quick. My bills are due and I hope I canget some people to join before the commission cut of date!" Don't do it guys! Get rid of that "Stinkin Thinkin!" Before you make those calls. Get yourself psyched up or Your prospects will smell you a mile away and close the door before you can make your point! Moreover, If you are under financial duress, start reprogramming you mind to wealth and success, in order to establish a more permanent prosperous mentality. I've done it, still do it and will continue to do it! In fact, most successful people have "conditioned" themselves into a successful mindset, one way or the other! Try it for yourself sometime! Do You Have Enough Prospects To Make Your Numbers? Several years ago I worked with a CPA who wanted 20 new clients. We came up with a great direct marketing campaign that brought in 10 leads per 1,000 letters. His closing rate was 10%, so after his first few clients came on board, we calculated that acquiring new clients was costing him between $500 and $600. He liked the numbers (one client was worth about $8,000/year), but progress was slow. We advised him to open the spigot and mail 5,000 at a time, instead of the 1,000 he was sending. It worked, and he acquired the new clients he was looking for sooner rather than later. Stop Talking - Start Selling Selling is not talking. It's listening. You may have heard the saying "the first person who talks, loses". And, it's true most of the time. There are dozens of reasons to stop talking so you can start selling. Here are a few worth listening to: Building Relationships A conversation: Future Business Key Element In Sales A challenge facing many businesses is how to maintain a constant stream of customers in order to provide a regular cash flow. Successfully Selling Your Professional Services As a professional service provider you face special challenges promoting yourself to potential clients. You may have certain restrictions on how you market or advertise. You may feel overwhelmed by the demands of being both owner and employee. You might not have a strong base of effective selling & marketing skills. In addition, you may believe that self promotion is somehow unprofessional and pushy or even unnecessary. Very often, professionals "open up shop" and expect, much like in the Field of Dreams, "if you build it, they will come." Long Sales Letters vs. Short Sales Letters Everywhere I turn, I'm being asked to weigh in on the issue of whether copy should be long or short in a sales letter. I receive countless newsletters on copywriting and marketing, and they are all still debating the issue. Three Ways to Increase Mortgage Applications If you are in the mortgage business, the very first thing you need before you can get anywhere, is an application. Lance Has What It Takes Lance has what it takes and then some. Cold Calling Reluctance Most salespeople I know consider cold calling a dreadful, but essential activity in our profession. Even those who are good at it rarely like it. Nevertheless, those who are successful in sales do it regularly because without prospects, one does not sell anything. Making the Sale When the Customer Wont Buy Ever had a party online or offline, and had guests say "I love that item, but I can't afford it right now", or "It's so hard to decide, I want all of this!". This is a perfect time to sell all those items to your customer without them having to pay a dime. 3 Tips For Getting Through The Voicemail Screen How many times have you heard that you gotta get past the gatekeeper and get to the decision-maker to make the sale? Countless books and sales trainers have talked about this for years. Much of this advice was written for a world without voicemail. Cracking The Billable Hours Ceiling How many of you made as much money as you wanted to last year? Don't be shy; raise your hands. Hmm, I don't see too many hands out there. What would you say is the cause of this gap between your goals and your earnings? Use Bundling To Increase Your Profits And Sales Use Bundling To Increase Your Profits And Sales Clear Up Blurry Communication One of the top brewing companies in America is a consulting client of mine. However, during a seminar for a brewery management team, we were jolted by a "communication wake-up call." We discovered that even though co-workers speak the same words, they don't attach the same meanings. Here's what happened. I asked people to write a list of simple words, such as often, sometimes, never, and usually. Then I asked them to put a percentage value next to each. For example, if I say, "He is often late for meetings," what does often mean? 10% of the time? 50%? 75%? Etc. Peddlers, Hucksters, & Empty Suits Ever feel like you were "just a salesperson"? Business is Great; I?m Just Not Selling Anything! Awhile back you had a great idea. An idea that you thought could make you a decent income, with very little effort. Then, you had another great idea-to sell your first great idea on the Internet! What better way is there to market and sell your idea to the world, you thought. So, you bought a domain name, found a web host, and hired a high-priced web designer. Before you knew it, your new business was up and running on the web. With the help of a search engine optimization firm, your site shot to the top results of Google and Yahoo. Plus, you added an affiliate program, along with some other marketing ventures. Soon, tons of targeted traffic started flowing to your site? How to Make Sure You Sell More! Make sure you target women. It's true for almost anything you are selling. According to Women Mean Business: The Secret to Selling to Women, eighty percent of all checks written in the US are written by women and they purchase 80-% of all consumer goods in the U.S. That's not a market segment you can afford to ignore. Even for items traditionally thought of as male dominated, such as consumer electronics, women have significant influence. Here are a few tips to make sure you choose the right one the first time: Reviving Dead Clients Most consultants I've talked to don't spend any time trying to recover inactive clients and it's a big mistake. We tend to magnify the problem we had or just want to move on, but sometimes a simple apology and offering to make things right will bring you back a client worth thousands of dollars in billing. |
