< 6 Ways To Get More From Your Promotions
1. Settle On The Right Way Forward The purpose of your promotions is to get more sales, not to soley enhance the image of you or your company. As a salesperson you must understand this right at the beginning or you will be wasting your's and every one else's time. You must be enthusiastic about the product or service you are promoting. If you're not why should the customer be? Communicate with the customer on their level and talk about what they want from your offering. Its a simple enough way forward. But how often do you not hear this being done? 2. Start To Target Your Customers Not all customers will buy your product or service. The skill is in targetting those who are more likely to. The end result is more sales and reduced costs for contacting them. Amongst customers there are good ones and bad ones. The good ones are repeat buyers; those who have bought before and are happy to use their favorite supplier. Unfortunately, this type of customer is least likely to be swayed by advertisers lile yourselves and therefore hardest to win over. Conversely, the bad customers are far more likely to respond to advertisers, including you, then move on to another advertiser, leaving you behind...and they always complain and want more and more for less and less. You want more business...the right sort of business... the profitable sort. To be as exact as possible is very important. Finding the best ones for you;Apparently only the top 20% of potential customers are very profitable and the bottom 20% will lose you money. Therefore, depending on where your company stands in relation to the above there are diferent strategies to use;
Finding repeat customers:Apart from new customers, the obvious source of more sales is existing customers. This is often forgotten and the costs are small in comparison to getting new customers. Customers who have bought before are less likely to be wooed by competitors, as long as they are happy. Or should I say, kept happy. Some budget should be set aside for existing customers and establishing or reinforcing some 'Loyalty' strategies or scheme. You know the sort..Discounts for existing customers and repeat purchasers. 3. Supply Customer Satisfaction If you can convince your customers that they will be more satisfied than with your competitors then you will win. But to do that you need to know; a) what satisfaction they want Customers are satisfied when all their needs are fulfilled. But it would be practically impossible to satisfy everyone's needs in one communication...there will be so many. And mass marketing rarely hits on the most profitable segment. That it why it is important to target specific groups who have similar needs with specific advertisement messages. 4. Identify Important Customer Groups Large companies can afford to send out separate promotions to lots of different customer groups, addressing their specific needs exactly. Smaller businesses can't do this but there may be common needs amongst their customer groups, albeit not primary ones for all of them, but enough commonality to be effective for one promotional publication. This one publication should wherever possible combine the customer groups and their satisfied needs into its structure (story). e.g. Combining the primary manufacturer customer group and secondary retail customer group, the producer and the seller. 5. Use People Who Can Make Things Happen Identify those who can help you in your promotions.
6. Find Out How Much Your Customers Know About You You need to find out from your prospective or new customers what they know about you. This can done through surveys and questionnaires (with incentives to complete). After all they might never have heard of you and are hardly likely to buy from you. They may be misinformed and have the totally wrong impresion of what you do or supply. Sales promotions can't be planned properly without this information. Do You Have Enough Prospects To Make Your Numbers? Several years ago I worked with a CPA who wanted 20 new clients. We came up with a great direct marketing campaign that brought in 10 leads per 1,000 letters. His closing rate was 10%, so after his first few clients came on board, we calculated that acquiring new clients was costing him between $500 and $600. He liked the numbers (one client was worth about $8,000/year), but progress was slow. We advised him to open the spigot and mail 5,000 at a time, instead of the 1,000 he was sending. It worked, and he acquired the new clients he was looking for sooner rather than later. Another Warm Lead Saturday morning, I sat in my pajamas, sipping strong, black coffee and petting Ms. Kitty Cat. The telephone rang. Usually on a Saturday morning, I screen my calls, but this morning, expecting a friend, I picked up. Breaking Through The Comfort Zone Barrier After completing a workshop on personal productivity or time management, we usually find participants react to the instruction on goal-setting in one of three ways: Things You Need to Know Before Joining a Direct Sales Company A lot of people are very intrigued by the idea of joining a direct sales company and being able to make extra money from home. There are a few things a first-timer in direct sales should know before signing up. Forgive All Ebay Sins! And did so in this case. But it would have been customer friendlier for this seller to accept my retraction to be replaced with a bid. He would have gotten repeat business from me and my friends. His "Buy Now" price is 30% over the retail price for this item. Lesson learned by me again - that there are way too many sellers on Ebay out to grab a buck and the hell with fair practice.Lesson learned yet again." BobAnn End quote? The operative phrase here is "repeat business from me and my friends". There is no better endorsement of your product or service than word of mouth advertising. Lack of flexibility on the part of the seller, not only cost them one customer, but also destroyed the possibility for future business. Good news travels fast, but bad news travels faster! As an auction seller, (Ebay auction ID: LevelBest77) I would have accommodated her request right away. And while I have never had anyone use "Buy It Now" by accident, I have had several people over the years ask me to retract bids. The number of people who have made that request can be counted on one hand! Some, did not even understand the process, (bid retracting) and I was more than willing to guide them through it. Long Sales Letters vs. Short Sales Letters Everywhere I turn, I'm being asked to weigh in on the issue of whether copy should be long or short in a sales letter. I receive countless newsletters on copywriting and marketing, and they are all still debating the issue. Is Cold Calling Dead? Is cold calling dead? And if laws are being passed to put it to rest once and for all, how do we generate business from now on? Leave a Better Voice Mail Message Yesterday I received a call from a financial planner named Richard doing a cold call. My policy is to always return those calls which help me to understand why I would personally benefit from doing business with a sales person. This one didn't, so it ended up getting deleted. Telephone Techniques TELEPHONE TECHNIQUES 10 Tips To Overcome Your Fear Of Selling Ahh. Selling. Sometimes, this is a word that is dreaded and feared by all but the most intrepid business owners. An Ideal Selling Situation The largest sale that I ever closed was negotiated over hot dogs and a soft drink at a refreshment stand, just off the exhibit floor, at a Superintendent of School Convention in Atlantic City, New Jersey. I met an educator who was interested in the summer study abroad programs that I was selling at the show. He saw my nametag for the Foreign Study League and wanted to learn more about my products. His school district filled two and a half jet airplanes with over 400 students (at more than $1,000 each) who enrolled in my firm's summer study programs in Europe. Exhibiting and selling at tradeshows, if handled properly, is the most cost-effective selling tool in which a business or professional organization can invest. Why People Use Long Sales Copy Have you ever wondered why some people use long sales letter? They are often found throughout the store, from the front window where they display the store's latest and greatest fashions, to all other sections that featuring women's clothing. There are many types of female mannequins. Some are full-size figures that are completely built to the scale of a real female body, while others simply feature a torso on a stand. A child mannequin is made of the same materials as an adult mannequin and has the same level of detail. Reviving Dead Clients Most consultants I've talked to don't spend any time trying to recover inactive clients and it's a big mistake. We tend to magnify the problem we had or just want to move on, but sometimes a simple apology and offering to make things right will bring you back a client worth thousands of dollars in billing.
