< A Little Something Special Goes a Long Way
Keeping the 80/20 rule in mind; that is that 80% of your business comes from 20% of your client base, there are a lot of missed opportunities to keep your clients coming back again and again and yet again. Having worked six years in the hospitality industry, particularly the hotel business, I have found the key to success and I would like to share it with you. It is a rather simple concept, I will admit, yet we sometimes need to regroup or refocus on the simple things to remain successful. I had the misfortune of establishing my hotel sales career during the worst time in the industries history - 9/11. I can remember that day like it was yesterday. I was in a daze like I had never experienced before, or since for that matter. But, because of my due diligence prior to that day, my phone continued to ring while I watched some of my fellow associates begin to sink. In fact, at the end of 2002 I was recognized by Hilton Hotels Corporation as one of their top producers among thousands. What was I doing in the early months of 2001, you ask? I was taking care of my clients in special ways with personalized gift baskets. I learned what my clients liked and what they disliked and I made sure to send them a special gift after they booked with me and in some cases when all they did was provide me with a few moments of their time to learn about my hotel. Needless to say, it paid off. It was a small investment that paid for itself a thousand times over...probably more. As I grow with the company and assume more responsibility, my time to research items has slowly dwindled. The fact remains that although I have a staff of four, I am still a sales professional and that will never change. It was time for me to sit down and get back to the basics. This time, I have compiled my information in the virtual world of the Internet for you to use. Eric Gans, Director of Sales and Marketing (at a Hilton Hotel)

How to Sell More by Listening More! In my opinion, one of the biggest skills of being able to sell well is developing your listening skills. Most sales companies and sales people talk about being consultative but they don't really know what consulting is! No-one can consult if they cannot listen first. You cannot sit around a table with your fellow sales people and decide what consulting services you are going to offer to a client - it doesn't work like that. Yes, you need a clear picture of what your services are but consulting services require you to listen to the client. Nothing Happens Until Someone Sells Somthing You can always tell a good salesperson, they are always on the look-out for opportunities to do exactly that. Every chance they get they'll promote whatever it is they offer. They are driven through their need to either make money, they're passionate about the goods and services they offer or both. Is Sales Profession an Oxymoron? If you are in Sales, you have probably heard these before: How To Profit From Initial Consultations "I'd love to work with you, but?" How to Give Your Customers a Choice Between You and the Competition and Have Them Choose You Instead of giving your customers or potential customers a choice between you and your competition and having them choose the other guy, have them choose you. The Anatomy of a Sales Letter When Dr. Frankenstein exclaimed "it's alive... it's alive," he thought he had brought wonderful new life to the world. What he really did was create a monster. He took a bit from here and another piece from there and sewed it altogether. Then he was distressed to see how things turned out. Many marketers create their own monsters in the form of sales letters. They throw everything into them and then are distressed at the response. How To Write A Riveting Sales Letter That Closes Sales How do you get people's attention and build their interest to take the time to read your sales letter? Let's face it. If you can't get the attention of prospects and keep their interest your sales letter will just fall flat on it's face and thus not make you much money. Three Big Ol Tips for Better Sales Letters Growing up in the South, I used the phrase "big ol'" a lot. Big ol' truck. Big ol' house. Big ol' party. The phrase was one we used when the word "big" just wasn't descriptive enough. Dont Call Me The March, 2004, issue of Psychology Today reports on an experiment involving identical business negotiations between test subjects. The only difference was that half started the transactions with a brief phone call and completed it with email. The other half used only email. Write Fundraising Letter Overlines That Donors Cant Resist (Includes Samples & Examples) The headline that appears over the salutation in a fundraising letter is known as the overline. Overlines have one goal: to persuade your donor to read your letter. Wholesale Secrets Revealed: The Holy Grail Of Wholesale! Like the legendary search for the Holy Grail, the cup that Jesus drank from at the Last Supper, the same "holy crusade" goes on today by veteran and newly anointed business owners for the perfect wholesale, surplus, and drop-shipping resource. They believe that divine intervention will lead them to suppliers that can defeat the economic laws of "supply and demand." Telephone Techniques TELEPHONE TECHNIQUES Business Lessons Learned At The Mall Normally in this column I dispense highly-intelligent small business advice in response to thought-provoking questions submitted by future and fellow entrepreneurs. This week, however, I have a couple of questions for myself, one of which makes me wonder how truly intelligent I really am. Another Warm Lead Saturday morning, I sat in my pajamas, sipping strong, black coffee and petting Ms. Kitty Cat. The telephone rang. Usually on a Saturday morning, I screen my calls, but this morning, expecting a friend, I picked up. Caring - The Secret Sales Strategy Sales information resource Just Sell, calls caring "sales love". Here's the meaning: Focus on a Trade - Not a Discount Smart buyers will always ask for a better price. Unfortunately, too many sales people and business owners automatically think that reducing their price is the most effective way to respond to this request. Marketing Conversations, And Conversation Stoppers Where many marketing conversations get off-track are the ones you have with yourself, before you even pick up the phone or initiate the handshake. As independent professionals, usually at the helm of solo businesses, we sometimes find ourselves facing daunting internal obstacles as we try to begin our day's marketing activity. With no one in our office-of-one to help with a confidence booster, an important resource to have in our self-management toolbox is a means of submitting the negative self-talk for an internal Second Opinion. |
