Spell of the Andes: (in English and Spanish)
Note: written 4-15-05, while driving through the Andes of Peru, from Huancayo to Lima. I sensed I was but an ant, among the mass of stone, earth and foliage of this enchanting, and enduring landscape. Spell of the Andes This is a song of the Andes, That reaches unto the skyOn the slow warm days, And the river runs low and high. The towering Andes look down In the passing of the sun:"I'm one with the Andes brotherhood I'm a dreamer, with a song." I came from afar to see her And how beautiful she really is,With her strong hardness, fresh freedom In the autumn of my life!... Again Mr. Siluk is on his travels, at the moment he has just road through the Andes, and wrote his newest poem, "Spell of the Andes". He is a poet who has traveded close to 700,000 air miles, to places throughout the world in search for inspiration, and here he has found some. His web site: http://dennissiluk.tripod.com

You know the rules about writing poetry, right? Are there rules? Well, if you frequent the poetry forums across the Internet as much as I do, you'd find that there are a lot of amateur poets who adamantly declare that there are no rules for writing poetry and if someone even suggests reading poetry or books on poetry, many of the amateur poets will throw up a defensive front. My opinion seems to swing fervently toward the opposition. You have to know the rules before you break them; at least that's what I always say. Writing Innovative Poetry Writing innovative poetry, the kind of poetry that reputable literary journals publish, entails knowing exactly what each word of a poem does to the reader. A good poem should be evocative, skillful, and cohesive, but before attempting to hone these attributes, a potential poet should be knowledgeable of the various forms and attributes of contemporary poetry. A good way to become familiar with the aspects of contemporary poetry is to take classes, join writing workshops, and subscribe to contemporary literary journals. Reading and understanding good poetry is vital to being able to write good poetry. Africa - Wheres The Profit?
