Everyone gets discouraged at times only there are a number of key differences between people who keep on going and those who give up: 1 Focus On Your Goal Not On Your Problems One of my mentors is a highly successful property developer and he loves solving problems. All day long he can take on one problem after the next and just keep going. How does he do this when most people would feel overwhelmed? He understands the importance of focus. He never loses sight of his goal and his goals so excite him that problems are nothing more than stepping stones to the achievement of his outcomes. If you are feeling discouraged it is very likely because your focus is on what has not worked; your setbacks and your fears. Discipline your mind to focus on your goals and discouragement will fade into the distance. 2 Ask For Help You do not have to deal with everything alone. Ask for help from someone who is qualified to help you and act on their good advice. Two minds are better than one especially when your mind is full of discouragement. And, you will feel stronger knowing that someone else is backing you, keen to see you succeed. When you think about it. A Quick Observation of the Low Class We can all learn a valuable lesson about the types of behavior and attitudes to avoid like the plague, simply by observing the characteristics of people we all know are low class. Being low class is not a function of the lack of money or social status. I've seen rich people and those high on the social ladder who were very low class. I've also observed folks who were living below the poverty level and low on the social scale who were very high class people. It also has nothing to do with race or ethnic background. Instead, being low class is strictly a matter of behavior and attitudes. How To Motivate Yourself For Success? I was having coffee with my friend the other day. As a life-long student of personal development, I've attended dozens of motivational seminars, listened to hundreds of tapes, and read untold books on the subject of motivation . I've presented motivational seminars. And yet there is one elemental truth that seems often overlooked. That is: no one can motivate you, because you have to do it to yourself. It's an inside job. And frankly it's less a function of "doing" than it is of discovering what your natural motivators are. So the key to getting and staying motivated is finding out what excites you. What makes you want to jump out of bed in the morning? What speaks to your heart as well as your head? Whats Stopping You? We're all familiar with the cycle: Commitment vs.Trying - Is Trying Lying? Today I heard the saying "Trying is lying!" Our Life ? Our Choice OK, maybe that's a bit of an overgeneralization but it applies most of the time. Basically, what I am saying is that we are what we are because that's what we've decided to be. We live where we live, do what we do and think what we think because that's we've decided to do. Yes, I understand that there are some illnesses and other stuff that happens that tends to force us into a particular mode of operation. But by the same token, how we function within our situation and how we deal with the things we need to deal with is always our decision. Lego Laws for Life Just about everybody owns or has owned a bucket of Legos in their time. There's no denying the fun they provide for a child or even for an adult, which is why, many Lego collections are passed down from one generation to the next. These brightly colored blocks of joy serve to challenge our creativity and our imaginations. They act as an empowering influence on our lives in that they almost beckon us to transform them into anything we want or can imagine. What Being Vs Doing Really Means So often we hear about "being" rather than "doing." Often it's given as advice when we are overwhelmed, overworked and overstressed. "You should just 'be.' You're doing too much." Well, yes, obviously, but what does that MEAN? How do we just be? Just Do It! If you run a business like I do, you probably have limited time to do all the things you need to do each day. In order to make sure I get to exercise each day, I have to get up BEFORE the chickens do ? between 4:30 AM and 5AM. Every single time I have to tell myself, "Kim, JUST DO IT!" I don't always want to either but I do it. Quit Pretending - You Have To Live Whats In You To Succeed Some people, after they reach their mid and upper adult years seem to go through their lives just existing. Oh! They work at their jobs as best as they can. Some may even pursue higher positions in their jobs but they still don't seem to stay satisfied with whatever position they have. They are usually the ones just waiting until it comes time for their retirement. Christian Gladiators? Athletics as a Metaphor for the Christian Lifestyle When Paul first arrived in Corinth in the middle of his second missionary journey, Acts 18:2-3 reports that he joined Aquila and Priscilla in the occupation of making tents. This fits in well with what Paul himself wrote at about that same time. For example, in 1 Thess. 1:9, he says: "Surely you remember, brothers, our toil and hardship; we worked night and day in order not to be a burden to anyone while we preached the gospel of God to you." Similarly, in 2 Thess. 3:7-8, Paul states: "We were not idle when we were with you, nor did we eat any one's food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you." Keep the Channel Open Why do you do what you do?
