Many Small Revenue Streams Are Best

There's an old story about a guy who had a fruit stand. On the fruit stand there was a single orange with a price tag hanging on it. The price? One million dollars.

People asked him all the time, "Why on earth are you charging one million dollars for an orange?!? Who's going to buy it???"

His reply: "I don't know, but I only have to sell one!"

While it may be logical to the guy, this is definitely NOT the attitude you should have when it comes to business on the Internet.

As an Internet entrepreneur, your mindset should be on selling a million one-dollar oranges! Let me explain further.

Multiple Revenue Streams

The first thing that you need to focus on is to create multiple revenue streams. There are a few reasons.

One is to prevent an over-reliance on any single revenue stream. You know the unpredictability of the Internet. What's to guarantee your $3,000 per month affiliate sales income from suddenly disappearing? As with conventional investing, it is best to diversify, and have your money coming in from ways.

For example, you can diversify by having different vendors for contextual advertising (such as Google's AdSense and Clicksor). You can also make your money by different means, such as by advertising, affiliate sales, sale of products, etc.

Many Websites

The second thing that I advise you to do is to create many websites, and explore your ideas. I am sure that many of you will have a lot of ideas - that's great! The only thing to bear in mind when you do this is to make sure that you focus on one single idea at a time, and make sure that it is making money automatically and regularly - however little it may be - before moving on.

The benefits of doing this are that you can capture a greater share of the market and attract a greater number of visitors in total, and having multiple sites also enables you to have highly focused content. It's also great for both contextual advertising (made famous by Google's AdSense) as well as for attracting private advertisers or sponsors who are looking for highly relevant content to place their ads on. Search engines love sites that are focused on one topic as well, so you stand a greater chance in your rankings too.
