What Type of Doctor Should I See Under My HSA?
You can withdraw money from your Health Savings Account (HSA) to visit an MD, DO or a chiropractor. Since you will be writing a check or using your debit card to pay for these visits at the time of service, you will really notice how much it costs. Since you have a high-deductible health insurance policy (a must for an HSA), you will be spending HSA money for the first thousand or more dollars every year. It will hurt! Because of this, you may decide to look around. You might decide that it is cheaper and still effective to visit a naturopath, a type of doctor who specializes in using natural remedies instead of drugs or surgery. These doctors typically charge less and spend much more time with their patients, often more than one hour per appointment. Or you may still want to stick with an MD. If you do, you may decide to use a particular kind of MD. Certain MDs have been "opting out" of the health insurance business completely. They refuse to take any patients who want them to process health insurance claims. They focus only on patients who pay "at the time of service." If you are using HSA money, that's you! You are paying at the time of service, using your HSA dollars. Here's what's wonderful about these kinds of doctors. Their fees are much lower. Much, much lower. Why? Because they don't have to wrangle with insurance companies day in and day out. They can cut their administrative staff down to just one receptionist and one nurse. All the other paperwork jockies who filled out forms and made phone calls to insurance companies aren't needed anymore. You can expect that an "opted-out" doctor might actually charge you only $80 for a half-hour visit. That's right, I said a half-hour. Once doctors are free from insurance restrictions, they often choose to spend much more time with their patients. They can really ask all the right questions and get down to the true health problems you're suffering. Sound great? Good! The best way to find an "opted-out" doctor is to start calling around to doctors in your area and ask what insurance they take. If they say "We don't take any insurance" you know you've found an opted-out doctor. Another method might be to call the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine at 202-686-2210 or the American Holistic Medical Association at www.holisticmedicine.org and use their "Doctor Finder." Health Savings Accounts will change how we think of health insurance. They are a wonderful tool that almost every American can and should benefit from. And they're available today! Daryl Kulak is the author of the book "Health Insurance Off the Grid - A Wonderful Way to Use Alternative Medicine and Save Money on Insurance Using the New Health Savings Account (HSA)." Young Driver Car Insurance It has become increasingly difficult to get young driver car insurance in the UK. The reason behind this is because the statistics for young drivers having a car accident are not very good. By definition, young drivers have very little experience of driving and thus have a greater chance of having a bump in their vehicle. Car insurance companies are obviously in business to make money and are understandably reluctant to insure such drivers. In most cases, companies will either offer a policy at a very high premium or refuse to insure the person altogether. What Is Renters Insurance Really All About? Underwriting Life Insurance For Diabetics and Diabetic Life Insurance Information Life Insurance Companies differ in their "underwriting philosophy" when it comes to diabetes. Offering life insurance for diabetics can be risky if the underwriters are not fully trained. Underwriters at the insurance companies that are fluent in underwriting diabetes have the ability to look at all of these factors and determine if the company will accept them as a risk. Moderately controlled diabetes cases would usually merit a "rating" or an increase in the premium, but not necesarily a declination for coverage. If the client with diabetes that is looking for life insurance is not controlled, then there are options - it will just cost them more for coverage! Insurance and The Engineer The world is no longer right when the two words, Engineer and Insurance are used together, side by side in a conversation. Individually they are words that justify their use, with their own explanations and own meanings as those that compile dictionaries see fit! They each serve their own purpose until such a time as when they are used in the same sentence or even on the same page. Engineer and Insurance cannot be used together anymore, yes there was a time when this topic had no base but here and today it can be seen that the words are not in any sense synonymous with each other. The Immorality of Guarantee Issue Health Insurance While there are genuine debates about whether privatized health insurance or nationalized health insurance policies make more sense, there can be little doubt that guarantee issue policies represent the most immoral type of hybrid between the two. The argument that everyone should be covered by health insurance is an argument for a nationalized health care policy. By contrast, believers in privatized health insurance argue that a private system yields more efficient pricing and cost controls in the health care field. But with guarantee issue health insurance policies, an immoral situation is created that undermines the benefits of a privatized system by poorly and immorally implementing some of the edicts of a nationalized system. This need for reassurance came in light of concerns that many victims of the blasts would not be covered by their existing health and life insurance cover. Should You Have Higher Deductibles On Your Coverage? What is a deductible? A deductible is the amount you pay before your insurance carrier pays any claim. Insurance companies offer deductibles on certain coverage in insurance policies as a method of sharing risk with the people they insure. Insurers believe that if you, the insured, share some of the risk you will likely be more careful and try to minimize the possibility of a claim. Since you, the insured, pay your share before the company is liable for their share, smaller potential claims are often avoided. Car and Home Insurance Northern Ireland Don't skimp on insurance. Without formal insurance, you are de facto self-insuring - meaning you'll pay out of your own pocket in the event of a financial disaster such as loss of a home or a serious illness. |
