Being An Adult
I have always thought that grandparents were the icons of wisdom, the "go to" person with he answers, the epitome of patience. When I was young, I often thought, "When I grow up, I want to be like Grandpa". I looked forward with anxious anticipation to the time when I would have all the answers and all the sage advice. All of our parents are gone, now, and I have discovered, as I suppose they discovered, that all I have really done is gotten older. I have learned that being a wise parent and grandparent is not so much what I know, but what I do. And the greatest truth I have learned is that one does not need to grow old to grow wise. The reality is that everyone grows older. What matters is what we keep and/or lose in the process. We need to keep a sense of humor, but lose the mindless silliness of adolescence. We need to somehow keep our internal youthfulness but lose the irresponsibleness of adolescence. We need to retain our integrity while acknowledging the reality of shades of truth. We must struggle to maintain our health without the obsession of the fitness of youth. We need to encourage sympathy and empathy, while shunning the devastation of "attitude". We learn to put aside the "me first" approach in favor of a sincere desire to share beyond ourselves and out families. Being an adult simply means that we now know what we should be doing and we move ahead without supervision and do it, even when we really may not feel much like doing it at the time. And so it is and should be in all aspects and areas of our life. Bob Curtis has been writing articles, short fiction, and poetry for over 30 years. A Prison Planet I decreed my 'twin' into my life in early 1990. It is a story I tell in other books but I think even Edward House would have a hard time topping my gifts. She was the only woman with a brown card in California when she sat on the Governor's Blue Ribbon Panel on Prison Reform. A brown card allows you access to all Penal System buildings. She had once been put in prison because the FBI could not catch her Mafia bosses who had duped her and many others in a Huntington Beach land fraud. She would not testify against them until they were behind bars because the Mafia goons had threatened to kill her two young daughters. It is a horror story of corrupt bureaucracy to say the least. 7 Strategies to Overcoming Anxiety and Panic Attacks You Can Overcome panic attacks and anxiety! Second Thoughts? Think Again! Why Anyone Can Be Prosperous In nature, when the season is right, all things flourish and overflow with abundance. Romance - Can It Last? I'm a sucker for romance. I love movies where boy meets girl, boy loses girl and, against all odds, they find their way back to each other. Or films about star-crossed lovers, as in Bridges of Madison County, who return to their separate lives forever changed. Pay It Forward My friend Hugh Jeffries died. He was a wealthy man. His wealth was of the kind that you can take with you when you go. I do not know what his tangible estate measures. That is unimportant now. This I do know?his contributions to the lives of others were the true measure of his success and wealth. A Time To Awake What has become of your fondest dreams? Remember Within Remember when you were really young? It was an era of inconsequential innocence. Even at this age, your imagination was larger than large. Believe In Yourself Diana is a wonderful person with a great personality and a lot of talent. Anybody who knows her can easily see the talents that she possesses. Everybody, that is, except Diana. 5 Notions That Americans Should Put Out To Pasture Wisdom and knowledge come from the same family but are as different as apples and watermelons. What we call common wisdom is what made you expect me to say oranges instead of watermelons. Common wisdom flows off the tongue like water over the falls but doesn't always require that the brain be fully engaged. Some people call this, the common wisdom of the day. This particular kind of wisdom is rarely examined for truth or any other useful quality. It is commonly accepted because it is so commonly heard. It is much like an unpaid commercial that we set into motion not knowing where it came from and with little regard to whether it is true or not. It is like an old pal who always steps in to keep a conversation going when we run low on original ideas. It is almost never questioned and in most conversation, it is only a matter of who is going to say it first. Some of these sayings so glibly passed around among us are innocuous, while others are outright misleading and sometimes dangerous. Here are five of them that should be challenged, examined, analyzed and if reason prevails, will finally be put out to pasture. Taking the Leap of Faith So often we stop and look at our lives and say silently within, "What am I doing here? What is this life I have chosen and is it all that I wished for?" " Am I living my purpose? Is this what I really intended to achieve in this life experience?" Choicemaking: Self-Help Secrets Revealed We all assume that making choices is a simple process. We seewhat's in front of us and we choose the best option. That's the way it goes in this choicemaking process. A Journey of a Thousand Miles There is a Chinese proverb that says, "A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step." Essential Oils and Aromatherapy: Raise Your Frequency with These Divine Gifts The volatile essences of aromatic plants contain potent, complex, natural chemical compounds that work at multiple levels to catalyze physical, emotional, and spiritual healing. Science is at last looking in earnest at the mechanical action essential oils have on organisms, but perhaps the oils' most important, and at the same time, most under-explored, factor, is their inherent frequency-their intact Life Force Energy and intelligence. Indeed, their greatest gift may be in their very consciousness, divinely encoded, and energized by Earth and Sun, that is available to help us raise our own. It is said by some that "Christ Consciousness" is in the oils. It surely appears that there is higher electromagnetic patterning in essential oils that assists our minds in realigning with the Divine Design for Harmony and Wholeness and that catalyzes a shift in our brains that can open us to higher awareness.
