Your Support Network
Quick. Who's in your support network? Huh? What's a support network? Do I have a support network? Honey, who's in my support network? Your support network is that group of people you can go to with problems, questions, to vent, to cry on their shoulders. Friends, for starters. Who are your close friends? Are they available to you when you need them? If they're not, why aren't you looking for different close friends? And family. Many people, like me, are fortunate to be close to a sibling and be able to talk and vent and share with them. Or it may be a cousin, or an aunt or uncle, or even a parent. If you have difficult relations with your family, do everything you can to mend your side of it. It's worth it, especially if you later become close to a family member. But I'm not talking just about the friends and family members who literally let you cry on their shoulders. If you're running a business, your support network needs to include some specialized professionals who know you and know what's going on in your business. A web host provider is one member of your support network. Choose someone who is small enough to know you and notice when something's wrong, but large enough to do what you need done. You may also need a lawyer, or an accountant, a web designer or a search engine optimizer (SEO). No matter who's in your support network, make sure they have your best interests in mind. Building a support network is not always easy, but it will be rewarding in the long run. About The Author Angie Dixon helps small business owners get their acts together. Tighten Your Connection It was my first and last experience with a pneumatic drill, which is a jackhammer with a star bit instead of a chisel bit. We four volunteers were to dig a septic tank for the caretaker's house at a Christian camp. After three feet of digging we hit bedrock--pre-Cambrian limestone. That's when they showed us how to use the drill. Dont Die With Your Dreams Still Inside You I write and talk a lot about dreams. Primarily because I know we serve an awesome and amazing God, who gave us dreams for an awesome and amazing purpose. We all have a dream to do something great, go somewhere incredible, achieve the unachievable, beat the unbeatable or meet the "unmeetable." Unfortunately, more often than not, most dreams remain unrealized; silenced by fear and doubt. What's needed is a renaissance to recapture the spirit and belief we once had as children. We need to remind ourselves in all that we desire to be, have and do... "I can, if I believe I can." My aim is to inspire as many people as possible to passionately pursue and do their dreams. Revitalize your dreams. Start today. Don't just dream; dream BIG dreams! Put them in your heart, then put them on the wall, refrigerator, mirror ... wherever you'll see them often. Remind yourself you are more than worthy of everything your heart ever imagined. Believe, then diligently commit to a plan to achieve.Resolve to live a life that ends the way you want it to; and don't you dare, I say don't you dare... die with your dreams still inside you. Quotable Quotes Are Nothing More Than Flowery Words Quotable quotes are nothing more than flowery words... And anyonegiven enough time and cognitive power anyone can put onetogether. Yes, they may strike a chord or make you feel good, but their true value resides in what they encourage and exciteyou to put into action. Ideas not followed by action have verylittle power. Here is one for you: "Only that which is eternal has any truevalue." Now you think about that quote and in some circles itmight be considered pretty quotable. So does this mean that ifthis online message lasts for eternity that it has true value?Actually the author is attempting to convey something moreprofound (I happen to know him pretty well). The only thing which is eternal (quotable or non-quotable) isthat which lies within you -- your spiritual core. This is yourtrue identity and therefore anything that cannot stand the testof infinity is but a passing fancy. What does this have to dowith quotable quotes? Well a lot..hang with me.If you are focusing on the infinite then you must take theaction necessary to strengthen and escalate the Power of theInfinite within yourself. The next logical question may be,"Well how do increase this power within?"All great teachers, sages and saints since time immemorial havetold us in one-way-shape-or-fashion that the power to win inyour life comes quite simply from two things. You mustconstantly:Study, understand, and immerse yourself in thatwhich brings you power.Avoid all that weakens you.Unfortunately, you live in a world that will inundate you withthat which weakens. Increasing your Infinite Self then becomes amatter of critical action; and here is where we tie thisconversation into quotable quotes. The fact that you are alive in this century guarantees that youare highly exposed to negative input from the media, friends, school systems, family members and various other energyvampires. Now while you may not find all of above factors as negative inyour life, we can be pretty well assured that unless you avoidtelevision, newspapers and magazines all together (something youmight strongly consider), you have at minimum some negativeenergy to contend with. If you are barraged by negative mediainput on a daily basis you must actively seek input to thecontrary just to stay at equilibrium.. much less get ahead ofthe energy game. Enter quotable quotes. The infamous quotable quotes could indeed be a part of youraction plan to offset negative input from other sources.Ultimately you will become that which you think about all daylong, for thoughts breed action and actions breed results. Read the quotes as well as other pieces of inspiration andpower; and then most importantly...act boldly in accordance withthis line of thinking and pull yourself from the quagmire ofcollective limitation. You were born into greatness but havebeen conditioned into mediocrity -- and you can quote me on thatone. The Seasons of Life, Part 2 of 5 Last week we started a five part series on The Seasons of Life. At that time I stated that I believe there are overriding principles that we should follow and be led by. That life is about constant, predictable patterns of change. And that as we approach the future; for all of us, the only constant factor will be our feelings and attitudes toward life. Beyond the River: Kabbalahs Guidance for Our Times "Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius -- and a lot of courage -- to move ourselves in the opposite direction." Lewis And Clark Pay Attention As I write this Southern California has just ended its second week of triple digit temperatures. The intense heat changes the way we live and alters the rhythm of our days. We are up earlier to walk the dog while the park is still cool. We spend a lot of time indoors in the air conditioning. We've been eating better. We don't want to heat up the house with the stove ? so it's salads and chicken from the grill. And, as I don't want to head out in my black car two or three times a day, I find myself thinking more about what I need to do and combining trips and make lists. Summertime - Take Time To Smell The Roses I AM SO GRATEFUL for the time to smell the roses.Lying in a hammock between two shade treesOr wandering through a multicolodred rose garden,Sitting quietly and communing with natureBeholding something beautiful in each person I meet. Listening to Your Heart! Trying to predict stock price movements is necessary, of course. After all, when stock prices fall, the cost of borrowing and of issuing new equity can rise, and falling stock prices can both undercut the confidence of employees and customers and handicap mergers. Unfortunately, however, most of these predictions are no more than rough guesses, because the tools CEOs use to make them are not very accurate. Net present value (NPV) may be useful for estimating the long-term intrinsic value of shares, but it is famously unreliable for predicting their price over the next few quarters. Conversations with sample groups of investors and analysts, conducted by the company or by investment bankers, are no more reliable for gauging market reactions. Anchors Away! If we want to fill our heads with the doom and gloom society seems to thrive on, all we need to do is turn on the local news at night. To make that quantum leap toward personal happiness and success in life, sometimes we just need to do what so many people seem to be talking about lately: clean house and take personal inventory of the people we associate with most. Beautiful Day Blues The massive orb dominates the aqua crystalline backdrop of its own making, floods its rays on everything below. The sky devoid of a single cloud seems as empty as I feel and the beach looks like an arid desert, molded by tireless wind and blazing heat. I picture myself atop an Arabian camel, parched with thirst, crossing an unforgiving series of never-ending dunes, up one and down the next, no rhyme nor reason, only the nose of the animal in front of me. Keep on Keeping on! Whenever we are working on our dreams we are going to run into some road blocks or obstacles. The important thing for us to remember is that these are only temporary set backs. We should treat each obstacle as a learning experience and make a mental note not to take that road again. As long as we keep this in mind we won't give up on our dreams. I Dont Like This You always do this wrong, how many times would I have to tell as to how to do the thing right, don't you understand to what I say, I am talking to you, are you listening to what I am saying. It would have been much better if I would have done that myself. Now go. Struggling With Addictions What kind of bad habits do you struggle with? Most people think that when they come to Christ that their bad habits will magically disappear. And some church people act like if you have any bad habits in your life that you must not truly be saved, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Christians or not, we are all people, and people make mistakes. People have bad habits. Harsh Reality Direct Answers - Column for the week of August 25, 2003 Do You Have a Vision? You must absolutely have a vision, or a dream, for your life.Your dream is what will cause you to jump out of bed in the morning instead of waking up with anxiety or dread for the day ahead. Anamchara - Living An Essential Life What is essential in your life? This question contains one of the most important words an question can address. This is the word "essence." To know your "essence" is to live the mystery of life rather than the illusion of "your life." The Eyes of the Clown There are few enough miracles in life, God knows. I think perhaps the circus is one of them. We pay our money, braced for boredom, and are bombarded by noise, bewitched by beauty, awed still one more time by elephants that, yes, are smaller every year. Yet something happens when we enter the big top. If we let it, we will be carried back to hopes and dreams long surrendered: hopes that something wonderful really can happen, dreams that will happen to us, maybe even now. Healing from Within "We are responsible for everything in our lives, including how the chemistry in our bodies works or doesn't work." Wayne Dyer's words hit me like a bolt of lightening as I listened to his taped book, You'll See It When You Believe It. Create 10 Delightful Daily Habits Practising extreme self-care in our life involves practising good "daily" habits.Daily habits involve more than just exercising and eating right. They include all the things that bring us enjoyment and delight. |
