Achieve Your Goals And Dreams By Using Excel Spreadsheets
Do you think your life is passing you by and you want to get back on track? Do you feel you are stuck in a rut and you don't really know how to change your life? That is how Caroline Righton felt to some extent two years ago. She had a high powered job in TV in charge of a department of 25 people but realised that her life was not stimulating: "I was not sure what I wanted to do with my life two years ago. My husband got a job at the other end of the country and both sons went away to college I was defined by my work and my role as a mother and wife. I now had time to stop and think about where I wanted to be in 6 months time." Caroline decided to audit or stock take her own life and especially her time. She wanted to take an unemotional and business like look at her life. She would use some of the same methods and tools that she used in her job. She decided to compartmentalise her life and stock take what she wanted to change and what she wanted to eliminate. She advises everyone to "look at your life and how you spend your time and then decide what is time well spent and what is a waste of time and what makes you feel guilty." When we decide to pursue our dreams, "we start with good intentions and before we know it our time is hijacked. It is taken up by work and friends and with ringing Aunt Edna three times a week. You find that your time is no longer your own." It is only too easy to "free fall through each day of your life thinking that was OK but you have never consciously put a quality of life value on each day or each hour." Caroline advises you to analyse your days: "You do time analysis. How am I spending this time and with whom? What am I doing and where am I doing it and when am I doing it? Do I want to spend those two hours with those people or do I prefer to do watercolours which I have wanted to do for years? Two years ago I thought I don't know who I am. I didn't want to get too emotional. I wanted to be very clear about how I was doing and about what my commitments were and whether I really wanted the dreams I was chasing." Caroline decided to use the strategies she used at work in charge of a department of 25 people "I brought in the spreadsheets and found that ticking the boxes was clear and business like. I found that I had spent 4 hours watching TV. It was clear and precise and refreshing. It wasn't like pouring your heart out." There was no psychological mumbo jumbo involved in Caroline's methods. Her approach is business like and mathematical. She looked at her life in cold numbers and arrived at a clear, unemotional picture of her life. There are 24 hours in a day and 168 hours in a week and 8760 hours in a year We all have X hours available. Take away Y hours that are committed to duties like looking after your family and friends. What you have left is Z hours. You can use Z to fulfil your dreams if you can identify them. Caroline's advice is very similar to that of Jim Rohn who advises using numbers and answer boxes to keep in touch with reality. How many phone calls have you made to promote your product? A number fits into the answer box or cell. Excuses do not. Numbers give you a clear picture. Words can too easily be hijacked by defensive rationalisation. Check the numbers in your life and start getting a clear picture of how you are doing. Use that Excel spreadsheet to get you back on track . Caroline has written a book called Life Audit to express her approach to life over the last two years. I have already ordered my copy from Amazon. The question is: "Will I have time to read it?" Jim Rohn would certainly suggest that you and I write down the number of books we have read each month. If the number is zero, we should pick up a book immediately. The Stories We Tell Ourselves The Hasidic master, Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach taught that on Passover night we are bringing our entire life stories to the Seder table to be freed. What exactly does this mean? To begin with, we are by nature, storytellers. Whether we are aware of it or not, we live in a world of stories. Stories that we tell our family, friends, coworkers, and clients. Stories we share over the phone, e-mail, in our journals and the stories that are constantly playing themselves out in our heads. Stories about what's happening to those we love, stories about those we despise, stories that inspire the spirit, and stories that instill fear. Hearing and Seeing Your Destiny As a child, I read an autobiography of Annie Sullivan. She was the woman who brought Helen Keller out of her dark and silent world and into a place of understanding few of us in the hearing and seeing world fully grasp. I decided I wanted to become a teacher for people like Helen. I wanted to bring lightness and sound into people's lives. Ready, Fire, Aim Does the sub-title to this edition of Footprints and Monuments sound familiar? It does to me in a very real way. When I was a teenager my dad and I loved to go hunting. We would hunt whatever animal happened to be in season at the time, and anything else that moved. Especially snakes, but that is another story. How To Achieve Any Goal, NOW! 1. Write down one goal that you want to achieve. Let's not make this the grand goal of your life, something achievable in six months or so. Go Beyond Goals And Achieve Your Dream! As important as goal setting is, goals alone do not ensure that you will achieve the success you desire. A written goal is not some kind of magic talisman whereby whatever you set your heart on manifests in your life out of thin air. That being the case, what is it that makes the difference between a person who achieves their goals and a person who doesn't? The answer can be summarised in a single word: lifestyle. The only difference between those who achieve their goals and those who don't is the way they live each day. Destiny does not determine your lifestyle. Your lifestyle determines your destiny! The Focus Wheel The Focus Wheel was first described by Abraham-Hicks as a tool to help us clarify and fix our focus on what we truly desire. If you have been practicing "deliberate attraction" for a while, then you know from experience that: Mind Over Matter -- The Power of Thoughts One of the greatest challenges in life is understanding just how powerful our thoughts are. Many of us learn this the hard way -- myself included. After spending most of my early life caught up in negative thought patterns, it occurred to me that I had created exactly what I had been thinking about all those years. Planning Ahead Of Everyone Else To Win What does it take to plan like a champion? Plant! -- And Accept The Consequences! Welcome to Weekly Wisdoms. Last week I found a new way to communicate over the internet with audio. After you listen, if you'd like to try it for yourself, click here for a chance to make your own free audio postcard... Too cool! Have fun! What a busy week! The lumber package for the barn is on the way. Malcolm is here to saw up the rest of the logs for the siding. We are building a new riding arena. Three new potential clients. And we planted 3 acres of grass! Actually we put down twelve thousand pounds of lime, fertilizer, grass seed and clover seed. I feel like a farmer! I woke up this morning thinking about all that seed and what it might look like next year. Actual Achievement Part 2 In Part 1 I started the discussion on what to focus on in pursuit of a 'time sensitive' goal, a goal you want to achieve right NOW, such as winning an Olympic Medal or closing a major deal you need for the continuation of your business. In other words a goal, which you may never get the chance to attempt again and which requires a lot if not everything of you! Everyone Needs a BAG (Big Audacious Goal) A Big Audacious Goal (BAG) is a clear and compelling catalyst that serves as a focal point for effort. Unlike smaller goals, the BAG is something that is huge. It is challenging and in some ways seems impossible - but a BAG is also inspiring, compelling, and motivating. How To Achieve Your Goals The first step, of course, is to set them. You can't get anywhere if you're not heading in that direction. Intention is essential. Money, a Session With Joseth on Abundance and Money (Channelled) (Channelled)(This communication with Joseth happened more than a year ago, while I was focused on bringing money into my life. Apparently I still haven't managed to manage my thoughts correctly to bring all the money into my life that I desire. However I will say that this is the first time in years that my bills are all paid and I do have a positive balance in my savings account. If there is one thing that I have really learned from this session, that is the importance of knowing exactly what I want.) One Life to Live Nothing stops us. Well, almost nothing. Although we do live in a world that whirls at breakneck speed, there are a few things that will stop us in our tracks. When tragedy strikes, our attentions are diverted from our normal hustle and bustle to the turmoil at hand. The perfect example of this is, of course, the world's reaction to the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States and the events following it. Achieving Your Goal By Relieving Yourself In Public Most marathons provide more than their fair share of heroes and heroines who provide great examples. The London Marathon in April 2005 provided one or two especially heroic examples. The competitors have much to teach about achieving goals. One Stroke at a Time "One stroke at a time." In an interview, Tiger Woods shared this simple formula for success. He further revealed that his habit to focus on the task at hand and not the previous stroke nor the next stroke keeps him self-disciplined. Tiger's recent 4th win of the Masters and being the first golfer to achieve this accomplishment before the age of 30 reaffirms his personal success formula. Writing Goals Down Ties Them Up! Writing goals describes the act of inscribing on a surface characters or shapes that convey thoughts and ideas in relation to that goal. Why is this mechanical act of writing goals so important in the achievement process? On Achievement If a comatose person were to earn an interest of 1 million USD annually on the sum paid to him as compensatory damages ? would this be considered an achievement of his? To succeed to earn 1 million USD is universally judged to be an achievement. But to do so while comatose will almost as universally not be counted as one. It would seem that a person has to be both conscious and intelligent to have his achievements qualify. Top Ten Ways to Achieve Your Goals 1) Write them down! Statistics show people who write down their goals have over an 80% higher success rate of achieving them. Start a Goals journal. Make sure they are SMART goals- specific, measurable, achievable, results-oriented and time-limited. How to Improve Your Life Every Day Growing Towards Excellence |
