The Fishing Mark of Mablethorpe on the East Coast of England
MABLETHORPE, is a beach resort on the East coast of England. The beach is a long stretch of clean sands with some great fishing. The clean and flat ground is excellent for Flounder and the catch here is often flatfish. However, Smoothounds are also a regular visitor to the beach and offer great sport and exciting fishing. Both the Smoothounds and the summer Bass can be found at a distance of only 30 - 40 metres or so and a cast of this length can bring you some large fish. Other species to be found here are Eels, Dabs, Sole (late summer and mainly at night) and both Codling and Whiting come close in at the end of the year (October onwards). Best baits would be crab without a doubt! Crab is the best for Smoothounds and Flounder although Lugworm and Ragworm are also good especially for Bass and for enhancing the appeal of a spoon rig for the Flatties. The tackle should be light and the ideal rig would be a 2 or 3 boom paternoster. Use 12lb mono line as the main body of your rig with 15lb to 20lb mono hook lengths ending in a Kamasan Aberdeen or Mustad 3261BLN Aberdeen for worm baits. A Cox and Rawle Crab Hook or the popular wide gape circle hooks are well suited for crab baits. You'll also obviously need a grip lead to keep anchored against the surf! Eel And Eelskin Lures Eel and eelskin lures are used mostly in saltwater to catch such fish as striped bass, bluefish, snook, and marlin. The most difficult part about making eel and eelskin lures will often be obtaining the eels themselves. The eel usually used is the so-called "common eel" found from Labrador to Brazil along the Atlantic Coast. The Hendrickson Mayfly Mayflies are essential to trout fly fishing. There are still ultra purists who consider casting dry mayfly patterns upstream to rising trout the ONLY form of fly fishing. I wasn't brought up that way and find that way of thinking too limiting. For one thing it would severely limit my time on the water, and would force me to get rid of about three-fourths of my beloved fly fishing gear. However, I must admit, there is a certain timeless quality to casting classic dry flies upstream to rising trout. And if that were available to me year round, well I might move to closer to ultra purist status. Anglers Who Want Quality Equipment at a Reasonable Price Need the Garmin 160 Fish Finder The Garmin 160 Fish Finder has some big advantages over the competition. First, the exclusive See-Thru? technology allows the Fishfinder 160 to hear both weak and strong signals simultaneously, giving it tremendous dynamic range. The result is a display that is capable of showing strong fish returns even when fish are suspended inside structure and thermoclines. Second, Depth Controlled Gain (DCGTM) automatically adjusts fishfinder sensitivity according to depth, not echo intensity like other fishfinders. The result is a much more detailed and accurate picture of bottom structure. Surf Fishing The Outer Banks of North Carolina My first experience surf fishing was with my father on Wrightsville Beach, NC in the 60's. He parked our shiny black Ford Fairlane in a gravel parking lot off the beach and we hiked over the dunes to the surf, carrying rods, buckets, tackle box and various other fishing paraphernalia. I remember him catching bluefish, croakers, puppy drum and flounder as I played in the tidal pools nearby. Later, my grandmother would fry the filleted fish to a golden brown and we would eat them with hushpuppies and coleslaw. How To Catch Largemouth Bass Six strategies for a good day's fishing Fly Fishing for Saltwater Salmon with Surface Flies One of the greatest thrills in Pacific Northwest fly fishing is bringing large anadramous fish to a surface fly. While surface fishing in the saltwater is not as popular as subsurface fly fishing, feeding saltwater coho salmon will take a popper quite aggressively. Neah Bay is the best place to cast flies for coho salmon in Washington State, and I believe it's also the best place to catch coho / silver salmon on a cast popper. Selecting the Right Tackle One of the most important things to consider when fly fishing is choosing your tackle the right way. Many people overlook this important factor and start with the wrong assumptions. They first buy the rod, then the line to match the rod, then the reel and then they buy the flies they will need to fish. The fact is the flies are the most important in determining weather or not you will be catching any fish. Colorado Fly Fishing ? Bait Huckin vs. Fly Fishin It was one of those fishing trips. You know, everyone catches fish but you, you loose six or eight of your most expensive streamers, it rains buckets, and you sink the boat. That's right; I got skunked at Steamboat Lake over Memorial weekend. How Do You Bring The Freshest Fish to The Table? Fish is one of earth's natural wonders and has satisfied our palates since the beginning of man. Their flesh is light and delicate, lean and is packed with protein, the anti-oxidant vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids. All play a role in keeping our hearts and immune system functioning as it should. The most popular fish we consume is tuna, salmon, flounder, Pollock and cod. But considering there are about 25,000 species of fish, there is enough variety of edible fish for the most discriminating taste. But how do you know when you are bringing the freshest fish to your table? Challenges of Nymph Fly Fishing When nymph fly fishing, the angler is imitating the juvenilestage of aquatic insects. As such, all fly fishing is doneunderwater, not on top of it. Thus, unlike when dry fly fishing,an angler will not see a rise or the fish itself pop through thesurface when gulping in a fly.
