Action NOT Reaction
Do you feel you are in charge of your life do you really believe that you control your destiny? Or you are of those people who feel manipulated all the time, they are doing things and they don't know, why? Do you have the sense that you are a wooden puppet that someone else pulls the strings? I have an answer for you. Psychologists have proven that human decisions are based on emotions, and once an emotional decision is made they use their logical part of the brain to justify that decision. That way everything is "clear" to you, you think you know why you do whatever is you do. Where is my point? Nobody wants to believe that is being deceived or manipulated in any way, so you rationalize your decisions in order to justify your actions. But what would happen if someone knew how you would react on a given situation? Simple, That person would control you and the worst part is that you wouldn't even be aware of it consciously. And before you think that this is a far fetched idea let me remind you of something or some form of persuasion most children use, the invocation to love. e.g. "mama do you know how much I love you? I saw Jim with that new bicycle; it was wonderful I can't take it out of my mind". You probably know how the rest of this conversation goes. If a little child can find ways to convince its parents to do what it wants them to do, imagine what an educated and well informed adult can do. Most persuasion techniques appeal on your emotional side, why? Because you don't know how to control your feelings without repressing them, actually repressing your feelings is even worse. "Ok John I see that, but what can I do?" You have made your first step by reading this article, cause now you have more information on how things are in your head. There is a funny thing but when someone else tells us something obvious we shift our focus and make all the connections in a sec. Also there is one other thing you should do. Whenever you make a decision wait 20 sec and try to focus on the counting not on the decision. You will realize that you see things differently now, more concise and clear. Do you know what I do after the 20 second period? I mentally take the decision and run a imaginary "film" in my mind, of how things would be different in the future if I took that decision, in any possible way that I can imagine. If I can see, that things would be better I just do it, if I see things I don't like I back up and consider it more to seek for alternatives. I don't claim you will be bulletproof to persuasion but at least you train your mind to see more and realize the consequences of a decision, for better and for worse. Transitions: Moving Through Change With Grace MOVING THROUGH CHANGE Personal Strategic Planning I have a few questions for you ---What if we as individuals adapted and utilized some of the same tried and true processes and methods that have given businesses the edge they need to succeed over their competition? My sense is that understood and implemented correctly professionals would be able to gain the same competitive advantage. Remarkably, this is not anything overly complicated or new and I can't take credit for developing it. But I can (and will) take credit for suggesting we take it out of the boardroom and adapt it for personal use to achieve greater personal and professional success. This classic business tool is the process of Strategic Planning. How To Improve Your Selling Skills -- With Coaching Skills But people love being coached. It's respectful and considerate of their needs. it helps them focus on what is right for them. In fact, it's all about them - the client. It doesn't matter to you if you make a sale or not, and they appreciate that? in fact, they just may buy something from you after all? you're so 'nice' and honest! Its Not What You Think My work in organizations involves dropping habitual ways of perceiving in order to contact a fresh and subtle perceiving "under the surface" of what is going on. That deeper sense of perceiving allows the emergence of what I call the Engaging Leader, or the genuine expression of myself and the collective. Whats Up With All These Coaches? If you are anything like me, you may have noticed a tremendous increase in the number of coaches that have appeared recently. Traditionally, coaches existed primarily in the world of sports, but you could also find voice, acting and singing coaches. 5 Keys to Powerful Communication As a coach that specializes in marriage, couples and family coaching, it is critical to develop strong and clear keys for communication. How many times have you been faced with a difficult feeling or occurrence that you are reluctant to discuss with your partner? You probably thought, "If I just don't say anything, I can get past it"? Buyer Beware: Choose A Business Coach Carefully To Get The Results You Want Consider this scenario. A colleague suggests you get a business coach. Via the Internet, you find one close-by. The woman says she'd love to help. She charges $300 a month for two 30-minute calls. It seems like a good deal, so you eagerly sign on the dotted line. The Pitfalls of Procrastination We all put off making decisions and taking action sometimes (yes, me too). It's okay to do that occasionally but if you are a regular pontificator then it will constantly cause you pain, even if you aren't aware of it. By putting things off on a regular basis you hold yourself back and instead of progressing in your life, you'll regress. The Best Things in Life Are Rarely Things Have you ever noticed this to be true? 9 Guidelines For Spiritual Coaching Spirituality coaching is more than creating goals and holding someone accountable. Spirituality coaching takes into account the whole person, that is, mind, body and spirit. Spirituality coaching focuses on one's essential well being that can only be accessed from one's Inner Core, one's essence. The aim of spirituality coaching is true and lasting transformation, and a true congruence between one's inter behavior and outer behavior, allowing one to show up in integrity and authentically. The following nine spiritual guidelines can serve as a foundation for spirituality coaching. Do you know WHAT MAKES ME MAD?? It makes me SO MAD I just want to... Sound familiar? If you want to manage anger, the only way of doing so is to listen to your self-talk. This doesn't mean listening to yourself talk. It means listening to your SELF-TALK. You Are Never Trapped! "The meaning of life is that it stops." -Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Leadership Coaching ? Easier Said Than done Recently at a Pharmaceutical meeting in Europe, one of the presenters shared the results of a recent study that demonstrated that Managers who were trained in Eight Step Coaching Skills were out selling DM's who were not trained in the program. This quantitative data seems to support that the cornerstone of success lies in effective leadership coaching and diagnosing the needs of the Representatives. However, it is not simply a matter of being trained. Managers must overcome day to day hurdles to be an effective coach. It takes a knowledge of the skills plus the courage to open up sensitive and important topics with others. It takes time, a precious commodity in a DM's week. It takes self-control over our emotions when someone doesn't measure up on an important mission that we, as Managers care about. When we coach, we run a risk of opening up conflict, differences, and misunderstandings that can create discomfort. In short, "coaching is easier said than done." But the results will be worth it if we are consistent and rigorous at using coaching skills. What Is Executive Presence? Often our clients refer someone to us for Executive Coaching with a glowing description such as "This is one of our most valued and brilliant employees ?. But ?. he or she needs "Executive Presence", or as one client said "He's so low-key he's invisible. Give him "Executive Swagger". We tend to see the big picture and want to jump straight to the finish line, wishing we could skip all the steps in between. Unfortunately, this perspective often causes us to become overwhelmed when it's time to start a project. We know where we want to end up, but we don't know where to start.
